  • Cullen on for Wilshere
  • I know it's only Villa, but our movement off the ball certainly seems to have improved with players running into space.
This Pellegrini chap may know a thing or two about football!
  • Fredericks on for Zaba
  • some nice passing. Not sure what Pel sees in Snodgrass. Literally Matt Jarvis Mk 2.
  • 82 mins played and Arnie and Noble are still full of running...good signs
  • Snodgrass 3-0
  • haha then he scores
  • some nice passing. Not sure what Pel sees in Snodgrass.

    Snottie has scored.
  • Curse of the commentator ;whome
  • They score a good goal.... bit lazy from us... but who cares

All at sea there. Bit asleep.
  • 82 mins played and Arnie and Noble are still full of running...good signs

I think it is more encouraging to see Arnie playing all those games. I don't think he would play if he were about to get sold.
And with all those goals he is scoring his price will go up
  • And thats it

Very encouraging performance especially the 1st half

Still a bit annoying we conceded due to a lack of concentration

Hopefully we dont sell Antonio, when fit hes a real threat and would definitely strengthen Palace
  • Contrast this with last year. We were getting regularly beat and constantly saying forget results it's all about fitness. Sadly the fitness didn't materialise until December.
Results are still not the important thing but our fitness and performances are vastly improved.
  • Is that a smidgeon of optimism I spy there? ;biggrin
  • Almost always optimism until the season starts as no one has ever been relegated or won anything from pre season matches. ;biggrin

Shame it’s not the europey cup,
    Winning is, it builds confidence
  • I was impressed with Rocky and Rice tonight
  • Quick One and two touch passing. It’s going to be a joyful season. What a contrast to last year.
  • Just a shame our first game is up against Liverpool

But much happier than i was at this time last year where we were pretty awful
  • Their goal was probably goal of the match especially as it came from their re-start and no West Ham player touched the ball.
I know it was only a friendly but I'm sure Pellegrini would not have been too impressed that our concentration levels dropped to allow it.
    ;angry ;biggrin
  • ;biggrin proud of my name change and hope he kicks on to become our no1 defender
  • But Baz, we haven't signed anyone called Transfer ;puzzled
  • Just a little side note, because I'm a bit of a squad number geek, Diop wore No24 last night, whereas he wore No4 in his first two outings.

I wonder if we're holding the No4 back for someone else ;hmm
  • Billy Bonds ?

But Baz his name is Rocky ;puzzled
  • OCS that would be a perfect number for a DM... ;pray
  • Possibly Rice taking the No.4 shirt?

Thought the line-up last night looked very exciting.

    Adrian
    Zabaleta - Balbuena - Ogbonna - Masuaku
    Noble - Rice - Wilshere
    Antonio - Anderson
    Arnautovic

My concerns would be that it still is a bit too easy to score against us. I appreciate it is pre-season & that we were relatively solid for most of the game, but that goal for Villa was too easy, as were the two Preston goals on Saturday. I still think playing a flat 4 at the back is risky with the defenders we have. Zabaleta & Cresswell can get exposed for pace, whilst Masuaku & Fredericks are more offensively minded. Ogbonna can be a liability (but also excellent) & Diop/Balbeuna are new to the league. I just hope we don't get a lot of 3-2/4-2 defeats where we look pretty & score goals but come out the wrong end of it because of how easily cut open we are. I think if we could push to sign a DM & another ST, we would be well placed to do well in that formation but on current personnel I would worry about us at the back.
