  • Who are you watching tomorrow then thorn?
  • So two Man City players have scored...
  • Best game that I have seen lukaku play, putting himself about with some nice touches
  • edited July 2018
All in all enjoying this one
  • Golden Generation ;wahoo
  • The ref clearly thinks Neymar dived, why then did he not hand out a yellow card.
  • Brazil piling on the pressure.

Something that they just mentioned on the tv (which I was unaware of) is that VAR can only look at images at full speed. Does anyone know if that’s correct?
  • MIA

Seems unlikely, given how they look at offside.
  • Not true, according to this:

    https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup/var-world-cup-2018-how-does-it-work-russia-decision-referee-video-a8397806.html
they will receive a stream from inside the stadium, which is made up of the view from a whole host of cameras – including slow motion ones – which the referees can flick between.
  • I'm sure we saw one review that the ref went to look at and it was played to him in slow motion, and the comms said we were seeing what he was being shown.

Didn’t sound right to me. Doesn’t make sense to have the technology and not use it.
  • Pressure had to tell in the end
  • Poor defending
  • Miss after miss now.
  • Just found this on the FIFA website

    https://football-technology.fifa.com/en/innovations/VAR-at-the-World-Cup#thecameras

Slow motion replays are mainly used for factual situations, for example, to identify the point of contact of a physical offence or the position of an offence. Normal speed is used for subjective judgments, for example, the intensity of an offence or to determine if a handball was deliberate.
  • Come on Belgium. I so want to see Neymar crying.
  • This ref had Neymar susssed ;biggrin
  • France Belgium should be an absolute cracker.
  • France Belgium should be an absolute cracker.

Thierry Henry could soon become the most hated Frenchman in France.
  • ;wave Brazil
  • I wonder what’s odds I can get on a European team winning the World Cup? ;wahoo
  • Always sorry to see Brazil go out but then im old enough to remember the great teams of the 70s and somewhat the 80s .just think part of the world cup dies when they go ,having said that ,someone should slap some sence into Neymar
  • I think Brazil would’ve won this World Cup without Neymar. Slowed down their play and dived when there were chances to have a go on goal. Must be hard to be Coutinho.

Neymar’s antics sullies the memory of that 1970 Brazil team.

You have to give Brazil credit for that 2nd half. They gave it their all.
  • I think var has caught out a lot of the South American teams antics they are so used to get pens by diving they seem offended when they don’t get them when cheating so var is a big plus for me
  • Although I think that could be applied to lots of teams.

And, conversely, there have been many more pens awarded this World Cup - as a direct result of the VAR intervention.

  • I've copied and reposted this from Adecoker because it definitely did not receive the reactions it thoroughly deserved.

"Particularly disappointing was Uruguay's attitude. The television showed one of them apparently in tears before the final whistle had even gone. Whatever happened to good old-style, old-school Latin American football thuggery. With ten minutes remaining and the game lost he still had plenty of time to attempt to remove at least half the French team's legs just below the knee."

    ;lol ;lol

I also think that Martinez should be given a break. To lose the first game as Belgium coach and then win the next 24 (or 25) is incredible. I've never really understood why so many were/are down on him as a manager. I cannot imagine any England manager getting the results he has, especially in this World Cup.
As well as that, it's both our birthdays (along with Harrison Ford) next Friday (the 13th) ;biggrin

If there's one thing we can be grateful for it's that we don't have to watch Neymar and his filthy cheating antics ;angry
  • Correction to my above post: Belgium, under Martinez, has gone unbeaten for the last 23 matches, after losing a friendly with Spain.
  • On that premise, I thought of copying and reposting my Shakira lyrics offering as it didn't receive any reactions ;lol

    # ;tumbleweed
  • Oh, and to quickly add, Ade Coker posts a lot of funny postings ;thumbsup
