  • He was not considered for a game v Dagenham only 3 days ago featuring a host of first team players. What’s happened since?
  • edited March 2018
Since? Nothing, as far as I know. He's still in France. Where he was 3 days ago.

The Dagenham game used 1st team players who hadn't joined their international squads.

I repeat, what is 'the point' you have so far only implied, and that you are sticking to?

Are you claiming he's not really fit? He wasn't really injured? Moyes doesn't rate him?

I’m fully standing by my ;hmm so let’s leave it at that ;ok
  • I'll stand by my 'Move along, nothing to see here' ;biggrin
  • Fernandes is with the U-21s rather than the senior Swiss squad, they didn't have a game last week but they play Portugal tomorrow
  • See Lanzini has picked up an injury on international duty, according to football London (source is a journalist with the Argentina squad).
  • Daily Heil reporting it as 'a knock' that caused him to 'skip training' yesterday. He 'might not' play on Tuesday.

    ;pray
  • even without him, our best attacking form was with Mario behind Arnie and Hernandez, so we might be capable without him

Do you have stats for that (cos I'm too lazy to do them myself)?
  • ASLEF

Not to hand, and honestly I might be completely wrong when I say that. I’m jusy trying to make myself feel less concerned about the idea of Lanzini being out
  • Without Lanzini in the starting XI

    P 11 W 3 D 2 L 6 GF 13 GA 20 PT 11

With Lanzini in the starting XI

    P 19 W 4 D 7 L 8 GF 23 GA 37 PT 19

So we average 1pt and score 1.2 goals per game either way but our goals conceded rate drops from 1.8 to 1.6 when he starts. Anyway he's only a "slight doubt" for the weekend according to Physioroom.com and he's not been ruled out Argentina's game against Spain tonight
  • I think he’s been incredibly underwhelming all season.
  • We need Lanzini fit and playing IMO.
Luke , think ur comment could sadly describe 90% of our players so far this season IMO

    ;ok

With the exception of the Huddersfield win, I can't recall an outstanding performance from him.
  • Alderz ;ok

    Even just a ‘good’ performance.

The Huddersfield game was probably it but, even then, for me it was more the Arnie show which he benefited from.

Stoke away, Leicester home, Spurs in the League Cup

As low as that Jay, I would have gone with the entire team at 100%.
  • He’s nowhere near consistent enough

I’d go with Chico, Arnie and Ant.....

We have to go for it, gawd help Moyes and the rest of them if they turn in another pathetic display and we lose
  • Fernandes is with the U-21s rather than the senior Swiss squad, they didn't have a game last week but they play Portugal tomorrow

    76 minutes.

    Not in the starting line-up.
  • Nor on the bench
  • SSN reporting Antonio may miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
  • ;lol What would we do without them?
  • So we have AC, Reid, Obiang, Lanzini and Antonio. All arguably first teamers. None of them have managed more that 21 league appearances this season. Very difficult to build up any sort of momentum as a team in those circumstances.
  • So what is our injury list looking like ?

    - AC (probably out for rest of the season)
    - Reid (out for rest of the season)
    - Obiang (out for rest of the season)
    - Byram (out for rest of the season)
    - Collins (?)
    - Lanzini (?)
    - Chicarito (?)
    - Antonio (?)
  • AC - possibly available for the last 4 or 5 games.
Lanzini - probably available next week
Chicarito - probably available next week

Reid and Antonio are almost entering the Andy Carroll school of reliability. Have to be fair. If we lose patience with AC not being able to stay fit, those two need to get the same treatment. Antonio has rarely played since signing his new contract. Reid also got a new deal before picking up two significant injuries.

Might need to consider their futures the way it is going. They will all be on big wages because of the new deals and all are late 20s now. Can’t keep having them on the treatment table.

Byram is also going the same way.
  • Bryam started off that way. Has he ever played more than a few games? His injury record is probably worse than AC’s.
  • I feel we need Antonio's to see a specialist regarding his hamstring issue. Our own medical team haven't been able to sort it out as it's a recurring issue. Each time he comes back it's the same issue so maybe they simply do not know what the problem is or how to treat it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Antonio picks up many injuries due to his physique and style of play. Your typical footballers are built more like Mark Noble - not the size of Antonio. He's built more like Anthony Joshu or a 100m sprinter.

I know a 100 metre sprinter who tried to get into rugby as a winger but kept on sustaining muscular injuries due to his body naturally wanting to sprint in a straight line. As soon as he tried to drop a shoulder in rugby or change direction quickly he'd sustain injuries. His body's movement patterns were so used to moving in a linear fashion that he couldn't shift laterally at speed without picking up a muscular injury. I'm waffling a bit but perhaps there's some sort of similar issue with Antonio. I realise he hasn't been training to do 100 metre sprints (as far as I'm aware!!!)
  • Have to agree Luke

For me, it's not the long ACLs or brokens bones etc that worry me, as they can happen to just about anyone....I get more worried by the guys who continuously get non contact injuries like muscle tears when sprinting, especially the hamstrings

I like all of Reid, Antonio and Carroll, but they can't keep themselves fit for any long period of time and it's often through non contact injuries

Add to the fact they are all probably among the top earners or at least earn £50k

I think all 3 need replacing as they just cannot be relied upon, and for me Byram isn't good enough anyway even when he is fit
