  • I feel for Slav.

    Must feel massively let down.
  • You could see his disappointment and frustration in the interview, he's not one for hiding his emotions
  • Absolutely not.

It seems pretty likely they are the ones who have engineered this (in collaboration with Payet and his agent) so I'd either flatly refuse to do business with them or insist on £80m for him.
  • of course take the 30 m and move on trouble is if there the only interested club why bid so much .payet wants out we all know how this will end .also if we don't invest the money quick will there be a tax problem .so perhaps West ham are thinking hold on till summer more time to invest .wish we could just get shot but don't know the ins and outs of it all
  • Funny how he flew off to France Friday after the cup game.

As grey says I bet there's been some collaboration between Payet (his advisers) and Marseille.

Off course they have. When Ive spoken to people of the club they always said the only place Payet would move to is back to France. I thought it would be PSG though.

Marseilles know they are in the driving seat. Man U can come in with £50m but if he only wants to go to Marseilles...

    Yep a little bit........

But, man management is a massive part of today's game and the list of fall outs is growing rapidly.

Personally I wouldn't want him rotting in the reserves on 80K basic a week (he only gets 125K when all the bonuses come in).....

Just get 35-40m and spend it wisely ( this time )
  • 2 Ayews ;whistle
  • Funny how he flew off to France Friday after the cup game.

he actually mentions "Tapped up" in the press conference......

That's pretty big to throw that out there

Sorry Boss, but we'll be lucky to get half that now.
  • Perhaps today's revelations give a clue as to why we are now pursuing the likes of hogan and Snodgrass - by thinking they are the sorts of players who can come in and work their socks off for the team cause, rather than throwing toys out of the pram at the slightest opportunity
  • I really hope we're not looking to buy players on that basis barracks.
  • According to SSN we've rejected a £19.1M bid from Marseille.
  • take it ;wahoo
  • Slizzy

Yeah, but I'm with the club - don't let him go unless the money is so mad it would be perverse not to.

As I said earlier, this isn't, for me, about just Payet and his tantrum. It is about how the club is run, and how it is prepared to let itself be treated (or not.)

Berahino would probably have been considered one of WBA's most valuable and important players prior to his strop, but they simply refused to be bullied by him and his agent. It doesn't seem to have done them too much harm, while it has stalled his career for the last two years.
  • It would be nice to make money on a player for once.

To be fair for 10m we got out a lot of him compared to most of ours buys...
  • £30m and it's a deal. £19m is only £8m more than we paid originally.

£30m is the minimum offer and if that comes in take it.
  • This might well all be played out on deadline day I reckon

    Don't go to bed...

baracks, that is a Levy trick which leaves the selling club (us) no time to get any replacements, rather not.

A French Journo on the radio said earlier Payet is the most stubborn player he has come across and has previous for doing this. He is a PSG fan so there is one destination or he could go back to Marseilles now they have a millionaire backer. Are there any decent players there that we could have in part ex plus money?
  • I'd only consider selling him in the summer for over £40 million, in this window the money is unlikely to be there and it would send out the wrong message as well; the only real scenario would be if he's involved in a trade, for another elite player who can come and deliver straight away for us, but certainly not to any other PL team. If Bilic cuts the cord (which it looks like he has), WHU stabilise and do well, Payet gets dropped by France, it woudlnt surprise me in the slightest to see him apologise, knuckle down and try to get back playing because above all, that is what he will miss most of all.

I feel for the club and Slaven, both have invested so much in him and to apply himself how he has done is totally unacceptable on any level . I have my issues with the WHUFC hierarchy, but they stumped up the money to bring him to the club and give him a bumper new contract to make him the highest paid player in our history; whilst Slaven totally commits himself to his players and is like a father figure, so for him its going to be hurting and you could see that today. ;hug ;hug

Good Bilic article from start of last season (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3116857/Slaven-Bilic-s-strength-man-management-new-West-Ham-boss-treats-players-friends-retains-respect-Luka-Modric-testify-that.html)

  • 30m. Just hope a Chinese club comes in for him.
  • I think this situation started before the season started. He was given time off after the Euros as were a lot of those players but if I'm correct he was later coming back than everyone expected. My guess is he had already made his mind up that he wanted to go back to France so his heart was never in the club from that point on.
Had he not got back into the French squad, which we were all thrilled about, I don't think his head would have been turned.
It's not as if he was the best player at the Euros, in fact he wasn't the best player in the French team.
  • Well the owner of Marseille, Frank McCourt Jr, is worth a few bob ($1.2 billion as of 2012) and has pledged to spend 200million euros over the next 4 years.
If he wants Payet so much he's got the dosh to go a little higher.
  • Twist, if he says that his family haven't settled in London as a reason to leave, then I can't see him going to China.

I don't believe when Slave said "We're not selling him", that was an "under any circumstances" comment, it was basically saying we're not letting him go cheap.

If he doesn't want to play, I don't want him in/around the club screwing us for 80K a week.

letting him go for 40m isn't bad business, someone else can have the problem

My biggest fear is actually how the club deal with this, lets face it recent history of anything major at the club doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.

I think this started once we went out of Europe, wrongly or rightly Payet probably looked around after a few weeks at the untold players we brought in and thought "what the heck is this lot?"

Not sure why you are so intent on giving Payet so many excuses and the club so much stick.

Our squad improved overall on last year (at least in theory, which is all that counts if youre judging them on 'ambition'), and last year he found himself able to perform to a high standard.

This isn't about his 'ambition', and how we've let him down, imo, this is about him getting all Billy Big Boots, and being told by his agent (and I suspect Marseilles) 'You're too good for this, get out sharp.'

I think the club are 100% solid on this, and have not done anything to deserve such behaviour.
  • I have two views which are a little contradictory but as someone who I cant quite remember said never be afraid to live life's contradictions.

In sympathy with Payet he didn't say any of this after the Euro's when he was making headlines and I feel he gave us a chance to become the team he sees himself playing for. If being a little harsh due to our business in the summer and performance so far he could not be blamed for thinking we are a little micky mouse for him when he sees Tore and Nordvelt walk into the dressing room. At 29 and his star shining as bright as it has done in his career I can understand him wanting to win trophies before he retires.

However I can't abide professional footballers who try and force a move through petulance. He has signed a contract and happily accepts his pay check which we would pay him whether he is playing well or not or injured or not. I can understand him expressing a will to leave to the manager, even putting in a transfer request but it should always come with an assurance that whilst I remain wearing the shirt I will give everything I have, it appears he is not acting professionally and so I would be in favour of saying 'we will keep you until 2020 if needed and unless someone meets OUR valuation of 35 - 40m you will go no where'.

Sadly we will miss him massively as he is a player who can produce something from nothing and we have not found too many of them lately.
