  • Dimi is a hammer.
  • For me, money for Payet is like the old points on the board v games in hand argument. Having points in the bag is a better position to be in, IMO, than playing catch-up with midweek gams, knowing you 'might' overtake the opposition should you collect enough points.

I would much rather have Payet in our squad over any amount of money offered because, as seen with Spurs and Liverpool, you can sell a star player for silly money, and chances are you will still be a worse side even if you reinvest all the cash in new players.

We, as fans, do not benefit from his sale. The club and board do, financially, but that money does not come to us and then it is a complete unknown whether that money is widely invested.

    Yes.....

But there is a flip side

We turn down 50-60m and he doesn't continue the form of the last 12 months for some reason or has an injury. Then he is never worth that money again

Not saying that will happen and I very much doubt it will but

    #justsaying
  • A Payet in the hand is worth 4 or 5 possibles in the future.

As others have said, Spurs and Liverpool are clear examples of failing to use 'windfall' money effectively.
  • Good tweet -

Whoever wants to buy Dimitri Payet must contact me through email: [email protected]
  • Spurs are looking pretty good right now, everyone has a price and he is 29 so 60 mill would be very tempting, its a business after all
  • No payer leaving rumours from either sky paper talk or bbc gossip column today ;nonono

Naaaaaaah, Levy would never buy a player without potential sell on value
  • Expat

I don't think Simonc is saying Spurs would buy him - I think he is saying Spurs are in a good place now having cashed in on their prized asset
  • Oh, OK ;ok
  • Spurs are in a good place because they made smart shrewd signings after the season the Bale windfall had largely underwhelmed

They went back to basics and picked up Dier and Ali for a combined sum of less than £10 mil and now both are in the spine of the team

Got to also be said Tottenham had/have a far superior squad who had been among the top 4 the last few seasons so had a better base then us to cope with losing Bale
  • When did we lose Bale ;wink
  • Dimi is a hammer.
  • You can say he is Our Club Hammer.
  • Indeed you can.

Well last I saw Spurs were challenging for the title most of the season, albeit a year or two after the money came in.....
  • Bale was sold in 2013

    13/14: 6th (No Bale)
    12/13: 5th
    11/12: 4th
    10/11: 5th
    09/10: 4th

Think it's fair to say that Tottenham were battling the tip 4 before Bale was sold and the players who have helped secure them challenging the top 4 again only Eriksen was bought with the Bale money

We aren't as big or have as much strength as Tottenham did to cope with the lose of Bale

We are more similar to Liverpool and Suarez as we have a good squad but not nearly good enough for top 4 especially if we lose our star

Which was the point I made.

They didn't significantly benefit from the Bale money, in terms of the players they bought as a result. They shipped out most of them again, almost all at around a 50% loss, with Soldado the worst case, costing £26m and selling fro £10m

Similarly, if we cashed in on Payet (but we won't) there is no guarantee that the money would bring us the players needed to make up for his loss.

The current Spurs team mainly relies on holding on to their best players, more sensible transfers and bringing younger players through, a model I would hope we will follow.
  • How exactly have Spurs benefitted from the Bale windfall? They continue to remain 2nd (out of two) in North London
  • It would be very hard to turn down any significant offer, its a team game and if we over rely on any one player its a mistake. At 29 he is not our-future but is a great model for how we wish to grow. I loved watching him this year and think we would be sending the wrong message to prospective players if we sold him. WHU needs to be a destination not a station on the way, but if it comes down to it given current fecent signings i would expect the resulting team to be stronger coyi
  • I have nevery in my life had a player name on a football shirt. I may have to get one with Payet this season!

Madrid in talks with Juventus over a world-record move for Pogba. If that is true I can't see them signing him AND Payet, given the two fees involved.
  • With James Rodrigues having trouble getting games at Madrid and the fans at Barca are on Arda Turan's back, I'm not that worried about them going after Payet. I'm sure he wants games and similar players are struggling.
  • And if they do get Pogba you'd imagine that they would be reluctant to spend big money on Payet

Bit off west ham but if they secure Pogba for a world record fee then surely Kroos, who's already been linked with City strongly, would probably be moved on......personally I'd take the inteligence and subtle brilliance of Kroos over the flash of pogba
  • Kroos is absolute quality ;ok
  • The problem if you sell Payet is we would n't be able to attract a similar quality player to us as players at that level want champions league football
  • Kroos is absolute quality ;ok

Lethal combination him and Gundogan if City can pull it off
