  • Luke is right ;hmm

I don't think Dimi will be engineering a method to leave and going into a strop - it is all down the the Dave's

They should consider taking the dosh at their peril - we will almost certainly regress if they do.

Liverpool cashed in on Suarez (who admittedly wanted to go), however where are they now?
  • Luke, a nice piece of alliteration, "PAYET is PIVOTaI", I like that ;clap
  • Jorderz

Nothing has happened to suggest he wants to leave though. So as it stands it is that simple
  • I'm not saying no Payet has to sulk, only that it has to be engineered by the owners and agents that he desperately wants to move and will have a negative impact, and it makes it much easier for everybody.

Payet could privately suggest he wants to move to Real and allow for this to be blown into full-scale striking by agents/owners, and it allows for them to sell and Payet to leave and the owners coming out of it quite well.

Marquee Striker = what we can get for Enner Striker
  • Dimi is a hammer.
  • Diddy D's answerphone message:

    We've got Payet
    We're keeping Payet
    You're not getting Payet
    Pass it on
  • His agent said he was happy and appreciated what West Ham have done for him plus he clearly had alot off affection for Slav . He is 29 stick a 60 million price tag on him then any club will have no resale value . I think he is going to stay
  • Pearce's

Think the club's stance is stronger; they are refusing to put any price on him.

If we're not selling him then numbers are irrelevant.
  • Considering Lyon want £40m for this Lacazette guy (who didn't even make the squad) I'd want a lot more for Dimi should we have to sell him
  • In this world everything has a price.
  • Agree Jorderz, if Payet wants to go he will.
  • Didn't Stones want to leave Everton?

Didn't Berahino want to leave WBA?

It isn't all in the hands of the players, and the fact we have him on such a long contract puts us in the box seat in terms of decision making.
  • Grey us right - you don't put any price on him - the message becomes clear - time to move on, nothing to see here...

Yes, you're right grey, but both Stones and Berahino had very disappointing seasons after being refused a move they clearly wanted last summer.

    Double post
  • Dimi doesn't want a move. He wants West Ham (IMO)
  • Dimi doesn't want a move. He wants West Ham (IMO)

    I certainly hope so ;thumbsup
  • Shows how smart the board were to give him a new contract.

I think we have some canny people running the club...
  • 5 year contract on 125k per week, not many clubs will be willing to match that let alone beat it plus having to shell out on a sizeable transfer fee
  • But it only takes one........
  • Herb

But if the club refuse to set a fee, no club can match it.

Nothing to see here, move along to your next target.
  • Grey,

I think you're over-simplifying. Yes, there are examples of players who have stayed despite wanting away, but there are many other factors to it.

Once agents have spent a month establishing a rhetoric of 'Payet desperately wants to leave' in the tabloids, the issue becomes more complex.

Yes, the club don't have to sell. But the club do have to weigh one thing against another to gauge what's in their best interest.

If Payet isn't going to be himself and is generating negativity in the dressing-room, they will have to weigh keeping a potentially underperforming or unhappy Payet against bringing in vast amounts of money for a player approaching 30, the kind of money which could be spread across every position.

So yes, the club doesn't ever have to sell, nor ever name a price. But it doesn't mean they won't sell if we reach a point where they believe they'd rather have huge swathes of money instead of a sulking 29 year old.

(FYI, I don't think Payet is likely to sulk at all. But that's not to say agents and press won't whip up a rhetoric to say he is, which he might happily go along with because he knows deep down this would be his last chance to play for Madrid or PSG.

And, as I mentioned, it's a situation which I don't think the owners would be totally against, as if they can lay all the blame on Payet, fans tend to be very understanding and they make a huge profit on him).
  • Jorderz

    Each to their onions.

I think you are over-thinking it.

Club isn't going to sell Payet.

    End of.
  • I hope you're right ;ok
  • This is in the online version of the Express:

I can only envy Charles Perrin getting paid for this kind of rubbish.
Chelsea boost for Dimitri Payet: West Ham worried big club might snatch top star
How is West Ham being 'worried' a boost for Chlesea?

WEST HAM are reportedly growing increasingly concerned about keeping hold of Dimitri Payet.

The attacking midfielder has been in sensational form for France at Euro 2016.

The 29-year-old has found himself linked to Chelsea in recent weeks, as Antonio Conte seeks to revamp his squad.

Atletico Madrid are also thought to be interested in the player, who has been slapped with a £60million price tag by West Ham.
Except, he hasn't, as the club have pointedly refused to set a price.
But according to the Daily Mirror, the Hammers are worried one of Europe’s big clubs will snatch their star man.
What does the conjunction 'but' link to there? Nothing.
However, it is believed they have no desire whatsoever to sell Payet.
    Er, so which is it?
Arsene Wenger admitted earlier this week he tried to sign Payet.
    You'll like this bit...
When pressed about the matter, he said: “Yes. Often. Very often, I have to say that I asked myself that question during my career.

“And I also have to say that I decided against it because he was not consistent. I have never doubted that he had enough talent to play in my team.

“I have been lucky enough in my club to always have very good players in his position and it was crowded!”
So, Wenger actually said he had thought about signing Payet, and decided not to.

There's a bloke getting paid cash money to read the work of other (?proper) journalists, and then getting his mish-mash of a story wrong in just about every respect.

There is clearly no effort at editorial supervision, so next time you read an online story, even from a national newspaper, remember to keep plenty of salt to hand.

Imagine when we sell Payet for £80m, spending £30m of that on Christian Benteke won't seem so bad.

Jorderz - only issue with your hypothetical situation is that his agent has already spoken, and said this earlier this week:
"As far as I am concerned, he's been happy at West Ham and it's down to West Ham that he's in the position that he is in."

"He's doing great now for France and to get him now, you've got to be talking ridiculous money. But football is football, so you never know."
    http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/10313726/west-ham-midfielder-dimitri-payet-transfer-would-cost-ridiculous-money-says-agent

Which suggests Payet is not looking to force a move, and that the ball is completely in WHU's court when it comes to his future.
  • I agree Lukerz, it would be the first time ever that an agent has turned out to be a lying weasel ;ok
  • Imagine when we sell Payet for £80m, spending £30m of that on Christian Benteke won't seem so bad.

Sorry Luke, but there was no way u were gonna get away with that
    ;fishslap ;wink
