Thought that although we let 2 in ( a dubious pen included ) we looked more solid than the first games of the season, not that was difficult to do considering our start..
For once the international break might just benefit us and Nuno.....
Can’t complain too much. We weren’t bad but they were better. It wasn’t a game I was expecting much from.
Paqueta was particularly annoying though, kept slowing the game down and playing for free k ILS in stupid places. If we’re going to sit deep, we need him to use the ball quicker.
I think we need acknowledge that we don't have one player who would get in Arsenals starting line up, even Bowen wouldn't displace Sako. When we look at it this way then 2-0 away is not terrible.
The real work begins after the International break as Nuno has some time to work with the squad, and we then play Brentford, Leeds, Newcastle, Burnley and Bournemouth and we have an opportunity to pick up points.
Problem is half the squad disappear to their respective international squads.
The fact that the current squad, in its current form, and at the current position in the table, has so many international players, including for The Netherlands, Brazil and Germany, is very curious.
Watched it all now and feel okay about it, we battled gamely, made fewer unforced errors, were disciplined and were far from embarrassed with some strong individual performances, (step forward Mavro and Summerville) but we also have to be realistic in that we really did not look like scoring and there was only going to be one winner.
I would have liked to have seen a bit more urgency, for most of the second behalf we played as if we had forgotten that we were actually one down but I get that this is Arsenal and they are simply a level above us.
For the record, the penalty was a bit unlucky but it was a clear foul and no one can really argue that the final result was anything other than a fair reflection of the game.
Feeling a bit more upbeat about the rest of the season
With regards the penalty, I thought Diouf was unfortunate because he had been with the wide man and Kilman hadn't come across to cover Timber. However, the challenge was very clumsy and I thought it probably was just about enough for a penalty.
It was definitely a foul there’s no doubting that, but he fouled him outside the box. The commentator said the contact continued inside, but Timber started to go down outside the box, and just fell into it. I’m really surprised I’ve not seen much complaint anywhere at all!
Most teams that go to Arsenal this year will come away with zero points. It is not a good feeling to lose but we shouldn't feel too bad.
Yeah Arsenal are a good team and will no doubt beat most other teams this season, so when they also get the bias of the refs during the game it's like a double whammy. You're not only having to try and up your game against the better teams but you're also at the whim of refs who will let the better teams get away with so much more.
That penalty was very poor but it was more to do with VAR than the ref as it wasn't clear in real time but VAR should have awarded a free kick. I feel VAR are getting more afraid to act against a refs decision.
No player or fan would have argued with a free kick upon viewing that but the VAR thinks its a penalty.

VAR was Michael Boy Ref Oliver, so there was no chance of fair play there.
