  • Still trying to figure out how we won that .Still 3 points and the whole team put in a shift .
  • Fulham had very few shots on target, scored 2 lucky goals (Fab at fault?) and we pressed and took our chances. Good team effort on our part, I dont see it as Fulham being unlucky. they barely tested our keeper.

Totally agree. We weren't battered at all, not sure where that comes from. Tried to get forward more but final ball not good enough. A decent battling performance that we have rarely seen this season and a good 3 points.
  • They had 21 shots to our 4 with just 5 on target to our 3. They had 5 shots blocked and 11 shots off target to our 1 (Paqueta’s header)

Clearly quality matters more than quantity
  • Soucek interview.

Reporter "You captained the team to a big win, you must be proud"

Soucek "I'm proud every moment I play for West Ham" ⚒🇨🇿⚒ ❤️

I said last night I saw him much more vocal on the pitch, I personally feel with his experience with Czechia, I’d actually like him being club captain, not that I think Potter would take it from Bowen, just my own thoughts 👍🏻⚒️
  • Wasn't able to watch the game but saw the extended highlights on the OS.
The one thing that struck me was that they were all scored with the first touch with Soucek's being exceptional.
Has Potter been emphasising ball skill I wonder. ;)
Compare that with Traore's blast over from a few yards out.
Both of Fulham's goals were flukes and Fab must take a fair portion of the blame, although I can understand how he was fooled.
  • Last night Soler became the 175th goalscorer for West Ham in the Premier League. This is the highest number of goal scorers for any one club in the league.

For sure our defenders didn't help Fabianski for the goals, but he made a right hash of them both, very poor keeping.

  • I thought the first goal was Mavropanos’s fault.

Weird game where most of the goals were the result of mistakes. Don’t think we were actually that threatened by them, though Fabianski did make a couple of very good saves alongside the two soft goals.

I think there were a couple of signs of better link up play, which could’ve come off really nicely if the players had been more confident and dawdled less.

Have to say, after the first two goals was the most energy I’ve felt inside that stadium for a couple of years.
  • Not sure he made a hash of them. He can't commit till the ball passes the last player, which reduces his reaction time. It's not uncommon.

He let in 2 crosses, that's poor keeping. I know he wasn't helped by his defenders, but he has to do better.

I've seen it suggested a few times that two of our goals were 'gifts' or at least 'fortunate'. After watching the goals, it looked to me like both of the goals in question came as a direct result of us pressing high and laying traps for their defence. For me, forced errors rather than unforced. I didn't see the game, so I may be assuming things that didn't happen, but if the game plan was to press them high (which Potter tends to ask his teams to do), then I think it's doing us a slight disservice to suggest they were purely because of gaffes from Fulham.

(I'm aware that you, Outcast, didn't say all of those things, but I'm responding to your comment just because it's the most recent.)
  • Yeah, I think there’s credit to be given for forcing those mistakes.

We didn’t really press high for the first 30 mins. After the disallowed goal, the players were far more intense in pressing high thought and that’s where the first two goals came from. Ings has done really well on the third as well.
  • Undoubtedly our pressing was a factor and deserves to be complimented, but they did make 2 huge mistakes leading to our first and third goals.
  • Worth remembering that Fulham had gone unbeaten for 8 league games including a win at Stamford Bridge, draws at White Hart Lane and Anfield plus a home draw against Arsenal

A draw would have been good but winning is an excellent result and we did it without a centre forward

As Outcast said they were forced errors, Potter was gesturing his approval to Alvarez for quickly closing down that defender and forcing him into making a bad pass.
  • As a side note, now 5 points up on last seasons points tally from THE SAME fixtures…
  • Think I read somewhere that ours was the oldest starting line up ever in the Premier League
  • Think I read somewhere that ours was the oldest starting line up ever in the Premier League

Would that be the case if Fabianski was not in the side?
  • Apologies have just found the match report in Daily Telegraph and I misquoted - should be - At 29 years and 26 days, West Ham's average age was the highest ever picked for a Premier League game by manager Potter
  • That's why Cressers had to come on with Scarles!!
  • Potter wants to reduce the average age of the squad.

  • Fabiański
    Wan-Bissaka - Mavropanos - Kilman - Cresswell - Scarles
    Paquetá - Álvarez - Soućek
    Ings

What a side to end the game!
