West Ham v Fulham , Tues 14th Jan @ 7.30pm

In Potter’s 1st PL game, he’s at the London stadium for a London derby against a decent Fulham…

With all our injuries, I wish him lot’s of good luck, really hope the team give the home fans something to cheer about.

Guess we’ll be seeing Kudus as the striker, unless he’s happy for Ings to start…

    Fabiański
    Coufal - Kilman - Cresswell
    Wan-Bissaka - Álvarez - Souček - Scarles
    Soler
    Kudus - Paquetá

Only side I can see him fielding if all the current injured/doubts are still out.
  • Potter's presser scheduled for 1pm. 3 main questions. Firstly, was Mavropanos a concussion sub which would mean he's out for 10 days I think; if not, is he available to face Fulham? Secondly, what's the extent of Summerville's injury? Was it mainly precautionary, or did he tear his hamstring as well? If he did, how long will he be out? Thirdly, what's going on with Emerson?

If it's bad news with all of those, then we might well see something similar to Lukerz's team, although maybe with Alvarez, Soucek, Soler and Paqueta as a box midfield with Kudus up top. The other big question is which of Coufal and AWB would play in the back 3, and which would provide width? I do quite like the idea of AWB as the RCB in a back 3 when we've got Summerville or Bowen in the team, but maybe, given we'll only have 1 genuine CB, Coufal is better in there tomorrow as he's better in the air than AWB.

The main thing is though, I hope we don't see Ings starting as he offered next to nothing on Friday.
  • Fulham have gone nine games without losing although only three wins - Brighton (H), Chelsea (A), Watford (H) - and just one clean sheet against Southampton.

Not many injuries, RB Kenny Tete started 15 out of 16 EPL matches before he suffered a knee injury against Liverpool last month with Timothy Castagne - regular starting RB last season - coming in as his replacement

Other players unlikely to be available - MC Sander Berge, MR Reiss Nelson - are not regular starters, ditto CF Rodrigo Muniz who will face a late fitness test after picking up a back injury against Watford.

No new arrivals so far this month

Mavropanos likely to be available, has trained the last 2 days. Summerville likely to miss out (although not confirmed he will). Emerson has trained, Todibo with the physio.
  • Funny when your happy Dino is fit to start =)

So Emerson & Mavropanos seem available, Summerville unlikely. Areola pictured in training videos.

    Wan-Bissaka - Mavropanos - Kilman
    Coufal - Álvarez - Souček - Scarles
    Soler - Paquetá
    Kudus

Areola, Casey, Cresswell, Emerson, Irving, Orford, Rodríguez, Guilherme, Ings
  • After Potter's update on injuries I would like to see. Ings is too slow and not mobile. May be Paqueta a false 9, unless Potter finds someone from the reserves. Also an opportunity for Guilherme.

    Álvarez - Soucek
    Luis Guilherme-Soler - Kudus

I would consider Kudus up top and Paqueta left.
Would love to see Guilherme start.
  • It's such an injury ravaged squad that we have to take chances and I feel the only one that could yield a 'wow! didn't that pay off' would be Kudus up front. It could backfire and he be reduced to standing around without any service and be wasted, but he can run at a defence and he can finish so he could be a less strong but more agile Antonio. Soler and Paqueta will have to work really hard behind him to feed him but it's probably a throw of the dice worth taking as we do know that Ings is very unlikely to pay off.
  • Tempted to add a 'how many times will he be offside' option to the Magic Minute....
  • I don't get left with the feeling that Kudus is offside very often after a match tbh.
  • 0.8 times per PL game this season
  • One noticeable absence from Fulham's starting XI in recent weeks is big summer signing Emile Smith-Rowe who started 14 out of 15 EPL matches after his transfer but his only start since 8th December was against Watford in the Cup

He missed a couple of matches either side of Christmas with a bruise but otherwise he's been on the bench

    Has something gone wrong?
  • Opinion on the Fulham forums seems to be ESR has suffered a dip in form and/or struggling for fitness

On the flip side there are a lot of positive comments about Fulham youth product and England U18 CM Josh King who replaced ESR after 66 minutes at the weekend
  • Not sure about Kudus as a CF, always seems like he's at his best running at a defence from deep , not sure how effective he'll be at holding up and controlling the ball I nthe air under pressure from stronger centrebacks

Not that we have many options though

CFs in Potter's system at Brighton used to come pretty deep to link play. CF would drop in and the wingers or 10s would run behind. I think it could work, but it's obviously not ideal when he's not a natural.

According to Transfermarkt, he's played CF 43 times, scoring 15 goals, but 4 of those were apparently for us (which I have no recollection of whatsoever!)

Ings was on the edge of our box at times against Villa, so if Kudus emulates that, he'd be starting from pretty deep 😂🤣😂.

Transfermarkt have him starting as.CF for us against Spurs in December 2023 but if you check the touch map on whoscored Bowen was playing centrally while Kudus was more on the right

The other three times was earlier that season (Liverpool, Sheffield Utd, Newcastle), he was a sub and only got 15-20 mins (scored vs Newcastle)

Regardless he’s much more suited to running at defenses than holding up the ball, in the air, and other center foward- type activities

True, but if the alternative is Ings, I'm all aboard the Kudus express.

However, we really don't know how Potter is going to set us up, or even who will be available, but if he plays a box midfield of Alvarez, Soler, Soucek and Paqueta (could have Soucek as either one of the defensive DMs, or even further forward to provide a bit more presence if Kudus isn't providing an out) then Kudus would be a good option as the CF as less requirement to cover back than if he was played as a WB.
  • Isn’t it comforting to know we have so many tactical geniuses on this forum. Unfortunately only one man has the control and we don’t know what he’s thinking.
  • But alderz has already told us what he is thinking =)
  • I think we'll see a 3 at the back with a box midfield and Kudus up top

    ----------------------Fabianski--------------------
    ---Mavropanos------- Kilman------AWB------
    ----------Soucek-------------Alvarez------------
    Coufal (possibly Guilherme)-------Emerson
    -----------Soler------------Paqueta--------------
    ----------------------Kudus-----------------------
  • Despite our form and injuries, I'm looking forward to this in a way I haven't for almost the entire season so far

Fabianski, Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Kilman, Emerson, Rodriquez, Alvarez, Soucek, Soler, Paqueta, Kudus.

Subs: Foderingham, Cresswell, Coufal, Guilherme, Ings, Irving, Casey, Scarles, Orford.

A case of over 30 or under 20 for the bench, Irving being the single exception.
  • Potter had no choice really .But that's a terrible looking team
  • Our website team are absolutely useless, the team still hasn't been posted there.
  • It’s been on the OS since 6.15 under match centre.
