The Actual Transfer Window

  • I was just pondering why Lyon made the statement at all - who is it for?

If they want to refer it to FIFA to investigate... just go through the necessary procedures to refer it and let the investigation proceed. They don't need to play the blame game in the press. It won't be relevant to FIFA.

Is it for their fans? To put pressure on us? Who benefits?
  • Totally agree, if they have a case, and I have no idea if they do or not, then I am sure there are appropriate channels they can explore to voice their complaint and look for sanction/compensation, going for the court of public opinion is not the place.
  • The Fornals transfer apparently fell foul of a computer glitch which I believe may be overcome, the real story for me is how we let both Fornals and Benny leave, possibly lose Cornet and only bring Phillips in
  • Wish him well, 2nd time Pellegrini has signed him
  • Only we could loose players outside of the transfer window =)
  • So maybe there was a technical glitch. 🤔
  • Dont mind saying i have a tear in my eye ,Good luck Pablo
  • It’s been a weird window with nearly all clubs scared of the PaS rules so not many buying plus lots of clubs unloading academy/home grown players as any money received for them is classed as all profit.
  • Both have been confirmed.
  • 4.5 year sof Fornals and 3.5 years from Bennie

Both have had their moments, but they both seem to be contributing less and less so its no surprise this happened

It's a loss to squad depth but is it really? I mean both have been useless if we're being honest and clearly aren't up to it anymore. It's like if we let Ings go, are we really any weaker? Not really, because he's just not been good for us.

It's releasing some wages and getting a bit of money in for 2 players who want out

Pretty awful from us that we didn't get one player in

I disagree that it's not really a loss to squad depth. We're still in the Europa League and we're still pushing for European qualification so we'll be playing games in quick succession (at least whilst we stay in Europe). What about covering for injuries? What about rotation. Not all players can play 90 minutes every game.

I can understand letting Fornals go as he will be out of contract at the end of the season. But I don't understand letting Bennie go without bringing in a replacement.
  • Poor dealings in my opinion unless Cornet steps up.

  • Pretty awful from us that we didn't get one player in

Apart from Kalvin Phillips, obviously ;-)
  • I would argue it is odd to let them both go, for a loan & such a small fee, when we could keep them for another few months & not deplete the squad which is already depleted due to Aguerd, Paqueta & Antonio not being around.

But, to be fair, neither have contributed much this season, so equally it’s not really a loss.
  • Are Lyon aware that Benrhama can’t kick a ball with any force further than 12 yards.
  • I wonder about FFP. The fact that 11 clubs didn’t spend a penny on permanent deals makes me think a lot of them are concerned. It seems curious to let both of your back ups go, either of them going was fine by me, but both seems odd from a footballing perspective, so surely it must be financial?

Meant winger, which is what Benrahma and Fornals were
  • Found the very short statement on Benrahma on the OS - compared with Fornals - quite telling.

Indeed, although it should be said that he's only out on loan at this point in time.

  • I think it may have been Gary O’Neill when questioned on lack of activity replied that he didn’t expect any signings but they also won’t have a 10 point deduction.
The profit and sustainability rule has scared clubs.
  • Yep, I think there is definitely something in that.

Which is exactly why it was introduced.👏

I suspect now that Fornals and Benrahma have gone we'll see a lot more of Cornet in the second half of the season

Promoted from 3rd or 4th choice to Paqueta to 2nd!
  • Well I think he certainly will have the opportunity to step up and you never know, just maybe, he may have shown some promise in training to justify the faith.

I truly hope so as he has hardly showed much up to now when he has come on.
  • On Cornet maybe he has yet to shine, but in his fleeting appearances he has put in a few second crosses. Certainly more so than Benny in far more time on the pitch.

There is a precedent now with Everton and clubs know that they can't expect to be treated differently. I think before Clubs felt they would get a wrist slap of a financial penalty or at worst a transfer embargo, it just got very real for every club now.
