Having not signed a very lucrative contract very much indicates he does not see his future at West Ham. Just a matter of when, as otherwise he would have taken the opportunity to probably double or treble his wages with us.
Sullivan said he would stand by his word that he would let Declan go at the end of the season BUT only if the offer is good enough. Arsenal offers are derisory and we are not going to be pushed around by them. £80 mil +10mil add ons seems the same as 75mil +15mil ads seems the same to me. These remarks i've seen by opposition fans saying he's only worth about £40mil are deluded. You don't know how good a player is by watching a few clips on the tv. As a s/t holder i've seen Declan from his debut and even then you could recognise that he was something special. So Mr Sullivan stick to your guns and get what he is worth. If not keep him.
If he goes I hope it’s to City. They nearly always beat us anyway so one more super player ain’t going to make a difference. We always have half a chance of getting something from the other lot so him going to one of them could make a huge difference as he will improve them no end.
Manchester United have joined Arsenal in wanting to sign 24-year-old England midfielder Declan Rice from West Ham, with the Red Devils considering a player-plus-cash deal involving England defender Harry Maguire, 30, or Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay, 26. (Telegraph - subscription required)
West Ham are keen on bringing McTominay to the club should Rice leave. (Talksport)
Manchester City are also competing for Rice, with West Ham preferring a deal which would see England midfielder Kalvin Phillips, 27, move to London Stadium. (ESPN)
I think we want City or Man Utd on the basis of interest in the players they have.
£70m plus Phillips & bonuses £80m plus McTominay & bonuses
Although I'm no fan of McTominay, I rate him as more than £10m better than Phillips. Man Utd almost certainly value him at between £30m and £40m, he's certainly worth at least £20m so a minimum of £100m plus bonuses would be a big improvement on Arsenal's bid of £75m plus unlikely to obtain add-ons.
I do have issues with McTominay, but he wouldn't be the worst signing as long as we also sign a quality DM to sit behind him and Paqueta. However, given that Man Utd probably would use a £40m valuation, I think they're extremely unlikely to go as high as £80m plus McT, I think it will be £60m at most.
Isn't MnTominay supposed to be a defence minded midfielder? I know he can go forward but he's hardly a natural attacking midfielder. I personally don't think he will want to leave Man Utd anyway. Fred has a year to go on his deal and Eriksen is hardly a youngster. Even if Rice was there with Casimero, McTominay will still get game time.
If they try to include Maguire (who they should give for nothing anyway as they're trying to get rid) its just like history repeating itself with the Rio money with a new Song arriving. That said, I dont think Maguire is a bad player. Just not someone we should pay much of a fee for and his wages would be too high
Also, Phillips has said he has the desire to stay and fight for his place. However futile that may sound, it doesnt sound like a player wanting to come here and be committed to us

Phillips is on a reported £150k p/w. Despite his lack of game time he still gets winner's medals. Despite his lack of game time he still gets picked by Southgate.
I make him, what, 5th choice CM at the moment (behind KDB, Rodri, Stones and soon Kovacic), so I can't believe that he actually thinks he'll get a run in the team. Sounds to me like he's just happy to collect his £8m a year for the next five years and collect some barely-earned gongs.
Seen Man U fans plenty of times say McTominay was out of position when he was asked to do a sitting role. Maybe not an attacking midfielder but certainly one who needs to get forward and not going to replace Rice’s defensive work. Possibly more like competition for Souceks than replacement for Rice
Yeah, the quality of Rice is he basically offers you two/three midfield players in one, the only areas people will question him on are his goal-creating stats. But Arsenal basically want to go:
Odegaard - Rice - Havertz Saka - Jesus - Martinelli
They will be able to do that because of the quality of Rice. He will be able to do the tidying up, reading, tackling, simple passing, defensive positioning, intercepting & won’t need to worry about assists & goals, because of the quality of the other five around him. But we all know he’ll be able to chip in with the odd long range strike & he’ll pop up in the box now & then. He’ll also be able to have the odd lung-bursting run that drives you up the pitch.
That is why we need to hold out for top money. Arsenal basically think he’s good enough to operate a one man midfield. So they can pay the price to that.
The Athletic are reporting that Man City are expected to bid today. I heard on a podcast yesterday that apparently Rice wants to go to Man Utd (I don't believe that, personally). Sounds like we could get the bidding war we wanted.
No point bidding if player does not fancy it. It would be very strange if Dec didn't at least want the conversation with them if his main aim is competing at the top level and trophies as they are the only team virtually guaranteed that.
I hope and pray that Rice doesn’t go to Man Ure, he’s a nice guy as well as being a decent footballer. He just wouldn’t fit in with the thugs and wife beating players.

Especially with Kovacic and Kante moving on
West Ham know Arsenal could have gone higher for Dec, if they wanted. Happy to spend £65m on Havertz but not another £20m-£30m on Rice.

Now it's all about getting the player on board first and the club are an afterthought.
Is today the day the teddy bears have their picnic 🤔
