jay, Many think that would have been the case. Amongst many stories doing the rounds one is Rodgers going on holiday last summer and leaving a list of targets and when he returned nothing had happened with them. When the Chairman stated in the programme on Transfer deadline evening that the stability of the club was his number one priority and that was why no one had been signed that is when the worries started.
Sacking Rodgers for Smith was a ridiculous decision. It was desperation & Smith has shown nothing at PL level to say he was going to keep them up. They had enough decent players & a half decent manager would’ve got more points out of those final games - losing 5-3 to Fulham? Leeds away? Everton home? Two points from those three games.
They should’ve stuck with him or gone for a better manager. Smith for those final games was just a nail in the coffin.
