  • Fortune, I don't really rate Antonio as an out and out striker.
  • IronHerb, best sign one then. Makes for an even better squad which is fine by me. Back to grinding my teeth waiting until they arrive. 🤞
  • If Antonio is fit we can live without another striker, the question is how many games do we think he will be fit for out of the next 17? I think 13 would be a good return all things considered maybe 11 more likely. Rather than a big outlay on a transfer I would look at a decent loan. We must have some wages free with Anderson on loan and Haller gone so if we ended up paying 80-100per week to a decent striker not managing to get a look in with a top club I am sure that would work. We get to try him out to make an offer in the summer if he impresses and he and the club he is owned get to put him in the shop window. I am not necessarily suggesting him but Giroud is this type of player.
  • With Yarmo scoring, the owners will be even more reluctant to fund another striker.

I agree with all of that til you say Giroud tbh. He’s a very different type of player to Antonio, and it seems that Moyes wants another Michail to play so the system doesn’t suffer.
  • We won't get an Antonio clone as I don't think one exists.

There will be plenty of similar players in world football. It's just we don't have the scouting network in place to identify them.

The owners will be pleased with Yarmo’s contribution. He’s a decent option up top. Albeit against a League One side. His movement was clever, we know he has a good ability to finish (had something like best conversion rate for us for a while) & he has good goal-scoring records for the Ukraine & plays up front for them. Loads of experience. That will save them splashing the cash. They’ll probably look for a loan now to see us until the end.

I think we won,t sign anyone other maybe a loan I think like a lot of clubs we have already borrowed against the tv income and with no money coming in we have cash flows issues. The haller money will probably be mainly used against existing transfer commitments . I think I the big outlays under pellegrini have not done the club any favours
  • Only the billionaire and investment company run clubs will have money. It's understandable clubs being quiet in this window. Nobody could have predicted Covid lockdown. I'd like to see someone come in for cover LB or Striker. I'm not so sure it will happen. Still time though
  • Yoyo 👍

I think we have to be realistic. We are 7th in the league & have no doubt been hit financially by COVID. Loans are probably are best bet & Moyes needs to try and find a couple of good ones.
  • I don’t think our owners will “now” look for the striker to be a loan. I think a loan would always have been a preference (even if it meant a later obligation or option to buy). Not necessarily a problem at all, as long as there is an incoming which actually happens, and one which Moyes sees as improving our squad.
  • English left-back Brandon Williams, 20, looks likely to leave Manchester United on loan, with West Ham United and Southampton interested. (Sun on Sunday)

The Hammers have also been linked with Morocco striker Youssef En-Nesyri, but the 23-year-old says he will not be leaving Sevilla in January. (Estadio Deportivo, via Sport Witness)
  • Chelsea have knocked back West Ham's offer to take 26-year-old Italy defender Emerson Palmieri on loan. (Sunday Mirror)
  • We can't have more than 2 loan players can we ?
  • The limit is two domestic loans I believe. Foreign loans are separate
  • And if the right domestic loan comes up for a forward I expect Dawson will be signed permanently to free up space.

To be honest though I think the game yesterday has killed any chance of any new arrivals. I think with Yarmolenko playing well-ish and Afolayan scoring, plus Odubeko back in training, all three will be considered sufficient cover for Antonio, and Moyes' comments about Noble after the game make me think that he'll remain our only CM cover.
  • I guess Coventry could be considered our CM cover when he gets fit. I’ve got no issues with loans at all, I’d be happy with a loan striker.

Brandon Williams would be an interesting one - you’d assume ManU would want him to get first team football, and I just feel that we would block Johnson’s opportunities for someone who we realistically won’t be signing after the loan ends

That's a good point alderz. A loan-in should ideally be an older experience cover or a loan player that we look to play and sign later.
  • I’ve just read that Fenerbahce have asked their fans to help pay for Mesut Ozil’s contract via a text message campaign

    Gosh.
  • Sullivan be like

  • I think if he tried that there would be uproar.
  • You mean fans wouldn't like him?  😲
  • No, I mean they would really dislike him hahaha
  • By my reckoning we will have to play nine games between 16 January - February 13. Thank goodness we have good strength in depth. 😬
  • Dear West Ham Fan

The club have launched a scheme aimed at keeping Declan Rice at the club for the next five years.

Here are the details of how you, our loyal supporters, can play your part in making this happen...

Remember, please make sure you get permission from the bill payer first
  • Is Bill Payer the man in charge of all the money?
  • No he be the new striker we are dreaming of 😂
  • When Leicester won the league they basically used 14 players who made 24 appearances or more, 9 of whom made 35 appearances or more. A further 9 players made a total of 57 appearances.
So, imo, all this conversation about small squad doesn't necessarily mean we can't maintain a decent position in the league. It would be nice to have cover everywhere but not essential. Antonio is the only player to have missed a number of games but has still made 11 appearance.

I think that our history of injuries, and Antonio’s history in particular, makes us all nervous. Leicester got very lucky with their injury record that year, and maybe we will too, but maybe Antonio I’ll pull a hammy on the 1st of February and we limp to a bottom half finish
