As regards agents fees why can’t modern day players talk for themselves.
They can. Or the PFA will represent them. But here are sme reasons why they perhaps prefer to hire an agent.
Do they have time to do all the negotiations and juggling of interest from perhaps 3 or 4 clubs at a time? Do they have the expertise to properly evaluate the financial implications including tax, when interest might be from several different countries with different tax regimes? Do they have the network of contacts to tout themselves around other clubs as they approach the end of their current contract? Do they have the time and resources to do 'due diligence' on potential clubs they might join? Do they have the time to attend face-to-face meetings in different countries, while still turning up for training and maintaining their 'focus' for their current club?
Makes sense, to me, to have someone qualified and experienced to do all that for you.
No doubt I'm in a very small minority, but I actually feel a bit sorry for Arnie.
I think he likes playing for us, and the challenge of the PL, and I think he gets on well with the other players.
I think he knows that he will have much less job satisfaction if he goes to China.
For whatever reason, he doesn't feel in a position to brush off the extra money on offer, so may end up sacrificing his own immediate happiness for the extra bunce.
I don't get why people assume that having pots of money means people can't or shouldn't feel ordianry human emotions.
Money can't buy you happiness, but you can have a luxurious time being miserable...
Sorry Grey, I do not feel sorry for him at all. When you are earning 100k plus a week at a very good club you have to deal with the news, speculation and all that goes with it. After all, it was his brother who stepped up the hype in the first place.
Its a pity Arnie cant open his own mouth and accepting interviews and quotes from his own brother, poor...IMO of course..I just want him gone, as Ive said already, glad for his service but his class shows now.. Whether he feels the money is too great a temptation, thats his choice, it just doesn't rub well with me, the timing stinks IMO...wait until end of season, surely if he's that brilliant the Chinese teams ( 1 of them ) would come rushing back, by him not being in the squad, who knows, but if he was training really well, and said to Manuel i wanna play and score, feel great etc, he would be in squad, unless its on a compassionate leave, like he cant work out how to spend his new coming fortune! I do believe u are in a minority Grey, ur reasons to me don't add up and I cant agree with them, but as neither of us personally know him( u don't do u ??, not a long lost son ;wink or some long lost family member ) because I do admire the way u always stick up for the Hammers ! ....
So why doesn’t he say why he’s left him out because if we get beaten I’m sure questions will be asked
It's not that long ago there was an overwhelming feeling that the club shouldn't be going public about 'behind the scenes' stuff. Indeed, many people were furious (and embarrassed, they said) about what they felt was unprofessional and indiscreet commentary.
It would be nice if all parties did their business behind the scenes there is some much speculation and gossip nowadays and agents /players/clubs leaking stories to forward their own agendas I don’t believe most of what I read.
If your job was maybe/probably (but you're not sure) going to require you to move to the other side of the world within a week, don't you think you'd be a bit preoccupied too. What about the kids' school. Selling the house/terminating your lease. Moving your wife/partner. Finding somewhere for them to stay. A new school? Lots of decisions to be made and things to organise.
I'd be a wreck, tbh, hardly able to walk straight, never mind think straight. I'd not be able to sleep - all sorts racing through my mind. I'd be up to my elbows in lists of things to do. ;poormf
Maybe you are a lot more sanguine
Yes it would play on my mind but no one would accept me not being up for working. I couldn't miss a story because I was thinking about moving. I also really doubt Arnie sorts even a fraction of these things out himself.
The only acceptable reason for him not be in the squad is injury. Pellegrini thought he could choose him for the last game, so I question why he doesn't think he can choose him this time.
I doubt he's struggling to help his family out on his current wages. Yeah, he can do it quicker on a Chinese salary but I suspect you can pretty easily get and pay off large mortgages with a PL salary - if he needs to help family members, he's not restricted to a measly 100k a week.
Completely agree with grey. How much money you earn doesn’t dictate whether you are or are not allowed to feel the same emotions as the rest of us.
Like others, if I called work on Monday and said my head wasn’t right because I’d been offered another job, that wouldn’t go down well.
But we have to consider what it means to be a professional footballer playing in the most competitive league in the world. This is an extremely specialised and high-pressure job. Being at 95% doesn’t cut it.
I firmly believe Pelle has made this call in the interests of the entire team. I don’t think Arnie has asked not to play. I just think that he, like the rest of us, is human, and feeling certain things. And unlike most of us, how he feels will seriously affect his ability to do his job properly.
My annoyance is that this saga may run until the end of February, which could give Arnie a few more games to give the club a nice send off & go on good terms. Then he gets his move towards the end of Feb & he has given us service for 3/4 of the season.
As it is, this is the end of the road for him. Pelle has omitted him so we will be forced into a sale at a price probably not in our favour. He won’t return from this.
He could have continued to play, give everything, allow us the chance to recoup good money, then no doubt the club would let him go for the right fee.
Yes it would play on my mind but no one would accept me not being up for working.
Well, exactly. But you can see why, in the circs, your boss (assuming you had one) might assign a big/complex/sensitive story to a colleague at that point, rather than you.
Which is what, it seems to me, is the case with Arnie. He's up for it. But the boss thinks that in the circs, he'll not give him this task today.
I think Pellegrini omitted him for the best interests of the team and if Arnie is 100% I think Pellegrini will play him if he thinks it’s in the best interest of the team. The only facts we know is a Chinese club bid for him and we turned it down and Pellegrini left him out as he thought it was the best th8ng to do. I trust Pellegrini everything else is hearsay and gossip at this point. We won most of the games in December without Arnie and if he leaves he would just be another footnote in the history of West Ham like Payet .
If Pelle has taken his psychological well-being into consideration, & Arnie is back in the frame next weekend, then fair enough. As you say he is human, he does have emotions & he may have got a bit overwhelmed by everything. Pelle may feel he needs the weekend off to get his head sorted. I find it strange that he has trained all week only to not be selected, which suggests a ‘rumoured’ development yesterday. What that was is up in the air. I would guess he has had a bit of an emotional reaction to being told something he didn’t want to hear, but I am guessing.
I can understand the opposite side & I suppose this is the equivalent to being given a day off on compassionate leave or maybe a days sick. But it’s not going to gain much sympathy from various people.
Maybe another 'minor?' issue might be the risk of an injury derailing a deal which could arguably lead to a less than 100% commitment possibly leading to uncertainty as to whether he should play or not ;fence
Well whatever happens we need a replacement quick as clearly today demonstrated we lack bite up front without him. Carroll somehow misses from two yards whilst Wilson scores a superb strike from distance.
So annoying to have a player like Arnie fit but left out. Lets hope the rumour of the Chinese club being interested in Payet is true as it will serve them right to end up with a dressing room with those two in.

You can't compare them though.
Carrol got the ball when he wasn't really expecting it, in little space and had a tight angle to beat the keeper and a defender. Wilson's situation was completely different.
Pelle has come out now and said Arnie’s head is in another place and he has to pick the players who work better during the week so I guess he hasn’t been giving 100%

I'm happy to believe Pelle over any media outlet.

I didn't expect (m)any to agree with me. Nonetheless, it is how I feel.
To clarify, I wasn't talking about playing or not this weekend, but having to make the choice he is facing.
I'm not trying to convince anyone.
