  • I agree Penge.

    It isn’t the stadium.
  • Watching Sky now and Hart has the lowest save rate % in the PL and has conceded the joint highest number of goals.
Possibly time for a change but I can't see Bilic making it.
It's embarrassing when on Sky our performance is termed woeful and disgraceful. Arnie was singled out for particular criticism with Gary Nev saying he thinks he's a lot better than he is.
  • I won't be happy if Arnautovic starts another game until he's shown something from the bench - I think I could run 10 yards, lose the ball and sulk as effectively as he does. Masuaku should be the winger.

There have been some really awful performances this season and I no longer think Slav knows how to change things.
  • good luck whoever is making the spurs thread :/
  • It’s not just the stadium (getting into it getting out of it etc is a joke) . it’s the board the manager and I never thought I would say this but it’s mainly the players . Do they really care at all about the club?
Everything about the club at the moment is contributing to an utter mess.
  • Just read some comments about Adrian being better than Hart which I agree with. The worst thing about it is that as Adrian has been dropped he is probably likely to leave. Hart is also likely to leave (we won't want him or we will but he'll be too expensive). So that'll leave us goalkeeperless. Yes I did create a new word.

If this does happen there is a risk that the next goalkeeper may be a shambles and he may initially flop due to taking time getting used to the defence and the defence getting used to him.
  • Don’t agree about Adrian being better than Hart, up until tonight I didn’t think Hart had stood much chance with all the goals we’d conceded, plus he hadn’t dropped the kind of rickets Adrian was capable of (stoke/CP)
  • Was disappointed as I had to miss this game, reading the comments above, I think I dodged a bullet.

I did not see the game but believe that these are good players, easily good enough to achieve upper mid table status - by all accounts we were terrible today against a team which only has spirit going for them, honestly, how many of Brightons squad would we take.

So how are we going to instil some spirit of our own, I always fancied Bilic as manager, he seemed right to me, but I am now thinking that a change has to happen.

    ho hum

I hope Antonio has an underling injury which he is playing through because, if he doesn’t, he especially should be embarrassed with that performance last night.
  • Was it Carragher who said we had one of the poorest sprints and ground covered records in the PL.
  • I know many on here have their gripes over playing AC & Noble but IMO them 2 & Collins are the 3 who really put their heart into it...
Slav might not get his tactics right & right now I'm unsure what I feel the board should do, but the players last night with the very odd exception should hold their heads down in shame, most international players who looked like they were playing with their legs tied together..
Of course I feel that the coaching/ management might be part of it all, but these last night were woeful..
    Clueless, gutless & no fight...

  • We are in a pretty desperate state. We can slate xyz players, however there is a real crisis of confidence right through the core of the first team. It seems as though the players are terrified if the ball goes anywhere them.

We are real need of a Scott Parker type influence on the pitch

Agreed - I'd add Adrian to your list with Noble, Carroll and Collins.

  • I feel like I need to be compensated by refunding my ticket price after watching the game. The fact that I didnt attend does not seem to be a good reason to be denied that refund ;hmm

I said earlier in the thread that Bilic will not be offered a new deal so we should already be looking (or already have a replacement ready) to bring in someone else well before the Jan window. With a lot of tough games in the near future I am sure virtually all of us we expecting/hoping for 3 points from Brighton more than any other side in that run. ;weep
  • Yup I agree no wholesale changes but like you said, managers like their own players and its patently obvious at the moment that there are issues with some of the squad (whether its desire, fitness, lack of confidence or any other number of excuses).

Sakhos contracts up at the end of the season so I hope we at least look for another one in January ( a sort of fit one that sometimes scores as well ;hmm )
  • So it's the day after & I'm now calm (relatively). I went to my first West Ham match way back in 1970 & I've seen us get rolled over by good sides.I've also seen plenty of abject performances against poor teams but at the moment I'm really struggling to think of a worse performance. I watched the match in a pub in Madrid & sitting on the table next to me was a Brighton fan. When the first goal went in I said 'you'll win this tonight' & what I expected was one of those frustrating nights where we hammer on the door but can't force the equaliser. I left the pub after the third goal (after shaking the guys hand & saying well done) utterly furious. To be taken to the cleaners by the likes of Brighton (no disrespect to them, they played well & I've got a lot of tine for Chris Hughton) is just plain embarrassing. I like Slav & I think he'll still be there at the end of the season but I don't want him there next year.
  • We've all said squad wise there's nobody in the Brighton squad we'd want but I'm pretty sure Brighton fans would say exactly the same about our squad as theirs at least show 100% commitment.
They turned up last night determined not to get rolled over and even Hughton said he was more pleased with the clean sheet than the goals. We should have been at them from the first whistle and put them under so much pressure they'd either have buckled or determinedly kept us out for which we'd have praised them and said good on them. What actually happened was we strolled around passing it amongst ourselves with no impetus or ferocity and they sensed that we weren't really going to bother them and that's how it panned out. We had 2 shots on target both from way out and never troubled their keeper.
The Lanzini free kick from 25 yards out went so high over the bar Owen Farrell would have been delighted with it.
Our passing, unless it's within 5 yards is abysmal. The only longish pass I'm confident will reach a teammate is the one from a kick off and I'm guessing that's only because we've had to do so many of them this season they've become practice perfect.
  • End of the season could be too late if we have been relegated. We have time to look carefully for a new manager now, and give him resources for the next transfer window.
What summed it all up was Hart over-hitting a free kick square to the right and it going out for a Brighton throw-in. Laughable. Reminded me of the panic and ineptitude England showed in that 2nd half vs Iceland. Zero confidence or self-belief leading to safe, non-threatening passing or crazy errors like this.
If Manzini is available get him in soon.
  • ..... or how about an emergency telephone call to Sir Trevor Brooking ?
  • I lick to see a vote on SB staying or going

We are less than the sum total of our parts.

It could be argued that this is a better squad than the one Pardew took to the FA cup final.

    Yet we are very poor.
  • I’ve been trying to think if I felt worse yesterday or after our 3-1 home defeat by wolves in the Zola era. I think it has to be yesterday. In the 2010 game the playing personnel included the likes of Big Mac, Kovac and Spector.
  • Watching the Watford/Chelsea game and noting the tempo of both teams but Watfords quick. accurate, dangerous passing and movement is putting ours to shame (and they've got first choice central defenders out again).

Before the season started, as with Brighton, how many Watford players wouldve been welcomed into our squad over our players?

If they played like that against us in the first half we'd have been overrun. I'm not saying that to be purposely negative or a doom/gloom merchant, its just worrying how inept and pedestrian we are with virtually no creativity.

    Silvas stock keeps rising

Watford are playing like we did in the 1st season under Bilic IMO , fearless and beating the "big" boys, impressive... Can he maintain a 2nd & 3rd season tho?...
    Wrong thread sorry!
  • We missed AC big time.
  • I didn’t see too much wrong with regards effort in the first half, maybe too much sideways and backwards passes but we were trying to keep possession.

The problem we have imo is this, we are awful at movement and close control in tight areas, we don’t see or make runs like we should. Our crossing is woeful. Antonio last night looked like the player that Slav didn’t play when he first joined, bull in a china shop and with little end product, I really think he took a knock in the first half that affected him a knee to the ribs.

Barely saw a moan about the starting line up, can argue all day about whether Cresswell or Artur start, the only gripe I had was Martinez not being on the bench.

It’s hard to believe that side was almost the same 10 that played pretty well against Burnley, we’ve got little consistency in team or individual performances and a manager that is in a quite frankly ridiculous situation and the same that SA was in. You can’t spend 14m net in the summer and expect to get away with it, the owners are as much to blame. Slav cleared the decks for Carvalho and Sully thought he was on FM2017....the ground isn’t helping either imo, the atmosphere was still good at 0/1 but after that it’s toxic. The players are low on form and confidence and making basic mistakes, obiang was fantastic against burnley, apart from one offside through ball to Hernandez he was bang average last night, We’ve wasted big money on Arnie and Ayew (who has at least scored a few) either back the manager now (and with funds in Jan) or sack him, I’d actually prefer it if he walked with some dignity in tact. They probably won’t do either because they’re spineless individuals who’ll keep telling you what a great job they’re doing and to deflect any blame to whoever they can.

If i was him, with a heavy heart I’d resign, and if possible blow the whistle on this board.

    Just my opinion

    ;ok
  • My biggest worry is that we are so slow in counter attacking. We invariably slow down or stop and end up going backwards. And now we also seem susceptible to being counter attacked.

    SCHB

Clearly there will be various things going on in the background which we can only speculate at (transfers etc)

But slav should still have had more than enough quality available at his disposal to not be producing the horror shows like Newcastle and Brighton, etc
