  Carrick is yet another manager who gets given the job after a successful place holding stint only to drop back markedly.
  
  It's a strange phenomenon as logic would say the urge to get the job produces effort which leads to a drop away once it's replaced with certainty. I don't accept that however as I don't feel these managers are less motivated once they have the job, yet it happens quite often.

  I think it's more likely that they are appointed when a season is more or less over and the pressure is off / reduced on the players and the manager. Once the pressure is back they can't hack it.

  It's not Carrick's fault Manchester United are just not that good. They have too many players who aren't up to the standard that their supporters expect.
