  • If we really do not think he brings anything to the team then we need to cut bait and accept the best offer out there that represents what someone is willing to pay.

Whilst I agree with all you say, the reason not to accept the first offer, is that a better one (either from the same club or a different one) may come in.

The same as when we put in an offer to buy a player, we rarely go in straightaway with what the selling club is asking for. Means we miss out on (a lot of) players, but get the occasional one for a discount.

What makes the Fullkrug situation so bad is that it was always going to be a shockingly bad buy, so I guess we're trying to avoid a shockingly bad sell as well.
  • Why was it always going to be a shockingly bad buy. He was Germany’s striker and had been banging in goals in the Euros.
Trouble has always been we don’t know how to use strikers. We had Haller, Scamacca and Fullkrug and turned them into bad buys.

We paid far too much money for a 31 year old player, playing outside Germany for the first time in his career at that age, with a history of recurring injuries (yes, I know he had a decent season just before we bought him) on a surprisingly long and very well paid contract.

Given we were never going to recoup a decent fee if we tried to sell him at any point in his contract, he would have had to have had an amazing, completely injury-free time with us just to be reasonable value for money. Completely predictably that hasn't happened.
  • He was best mates with Steidten - the only reason he ended up here

Certainly the link with Steidten was a huge factor; didn't Steidten try to get Moyes to take him the previous summer?
  • In Taty we have a striker that can score and fit in with our style of play, we need to keep him. We have had good strikers before, Haller, Scamacca and Fullkrug to name some who couldn't for some reason do it for us.

I thought that Scamacca was pretty good for us, but he just couldn't settle in the UK.

Shame really, as he could have been brilliant for us

Personally, I would not spend significant money on a striker. Whoever we go for will not be better than Taty. We have Taty & Pablo, we have Bowen. What we need are the midfield/wide areas sorted. Two wingers, an AM/CM player & a CB. If we sort that & have the budget left, a cheap striker on loan or a free would be ideal.
  • Solomon is having his medical. Should be announced today or tomorrow.

    I missed this yesterday
I assume a back up option if Solomon doesn’t go through

I think likely to be a squad option - we must want more than just Solomon for the wide areas

    Hermansen
    Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Kilman - Diouf
    Álvarez - Kanté
    Bowen - Pablo - Solomon
    Taty

Areola, Veltman, Scarles, Magassa, Orford, Ward-Prowse, Lamadrid, WG/AM, ST

With Souček to return in October.

Still need another wide player, AM/ST depending if we want to keep using this 4-4-2 hybrid system or want to be able to mix it up with a number 10 style player. Also likely to need a CB. Think we’re ok in CM personally, at full-back, in goal & up front.
  • Solomon doing media work. Will be the new 10.

This now gives us a balanced side to put out against Burnley, which is good

I think he’s another smart, clever signing, to go along with Veltman, & at £5m it is a sensible bit of business & likely a bargain
  • Southampton have taken Divin Mubama on a 1 year loan from City.

In addition to Scarles, Orford and Kante, other promising academy players need some encouragement too. Fearon, Ajala, Myers, Earthy and Golambeckis come to mind. Without some senior game time, they are likely to be feel neglected and will be be poached by rival teams.
  • Myers I can see being the only one there with first team potential this season, the rest get loaned/sold IMO. Scarles, Orford & Kante will be in & around the squad.
  • Ajala, Myers, Earthy and Golambeckis are classified as 1st Team squad members.
  • They may be but I don’t see Ajala being in many matchday squads when the window closes (same for the other two).
  • If we keep all of our players (fingers crossed Taty and Mavro stay), I would say we needed one CM, one more CB and possibly another AM / FW.

Strength in depth is key and we need to keep looking

Brentford will make a bid of around £40m for Diouf, according to Ex & talkSPORT. I imagine that will be accepted.

If they bid that kind of fee, I'd personally grab it.....
  • I don’t think you can turn down that sort of money for Diouf - he has a huge ceiling but right now he is average.
  • I'd take it and call a doctor for them, I would really like to keep him and think he is decent but 20m, very top end 25m.
  • Didn't we pay £19 million for Diouf so we do need to make a decent profit?

    What’s a FW?🤷🏻‍♂️
    I can’t keep up with the terminology.😃
