So here we go, the first of many league games this year, and it'd on the box too.

Hopefully with Burnley selling half of their squad we have a good chance of all three points

    Just 6 months since we last visited Turf Moor and as Expat says quite a few faces have gone

    They had a bit of trouble replacing for Scott Parker, were rejected by Craig Bellamy and Rob Edwards before finally landing Genk’s Nicky Hayen 4 weeks ago

    Jaidon Antony (£17m Brentford), Martin Dubravka (free Spurs), CB Maxime Esteve (£27.3m RB Leipzig) and LW Loum Tchaouna (£20m Coventry) have all gone

    DR Congo’s CB Axel Tuanzebe rejected a new contract and has been linked with Hull, Everton, Lazio and the Saudi league

    LB Quilindschy Hartman and CM Lesley Ugochukwu have both left on season long loans with Espanyol and Galatasaray

    CM Florentino was a Burnley player for 53 days, they had him on loan from Benfica last season, signed a permanent deal in June but he joined Ipswich last week

    Top scorer Zian Flemming is still there but has been linked with Leeds

    Another face that won’t be around is club captain Josh Cullen, still recovering from an ACL suffered in December

    They have given Ashley Barnes a new one year contract, he’ll be 37 in October, plus they’ve signed 23yo DM Ugo Raghouber (£3.5m Lille) and 36yo GK Ben Amos (free, Port Vale) as back up for 22yo keeper Max Weiss

    Otherwise it’s the same squad we beat 3-2 at home and 2-0 away last season

    They played Notts County (newly promoted to League One) in the Carabao, like us they went behind in the first half, Flemming equalised shortly after half time but despite dominating the game they failed to score again and eventually won on penalties.

    One faint ray of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy East Lancashire sky is the return of FW Zeki Amdouni who missed most of last season with an ACL. He was called up by Switzerland for the World Cup, made three substitute appearances and scored in the penalty shootout against Colombia.

    He didn’t play in the pre-season but came on in the second half yesterday

    Burnley set to loan Man City's England U21 CB Max Alleyne, understandable as two of their first team CBs left in the summer and they played three at the back at the weekend with Kyle Walker of the right on the three

    But

    Kyle Walker has been linked with Everton

    One in, one out?

    Lummey, just realised that Armando Broja is still on Burnley's books

    He hasn't played in any pre-season games and wasn't on the bench against Notts County, has been linked with various Serie A clubs but nothing yet

    Leads can also be doubled or trebled? We haven't got the defence we had in the 1980/81 season where we won several games 1-0.

    Who said anything about the sixties????? There comes a point where there is healthy debate and just continual digging out!
    The point is too many games NES decides lets defend the lead, try and catch people on the counter when he needs to realise he hasn't got the likes of CHO & Elanga to break at pace. Once we get a goal up I can't see why we don't go for a second and third.

    No need to go back that far, I'd settle for Hartson and Kitson. Possibly with Berkovich. Could we combine them with Bowen?

    I think that in Bowen and Taty we have the ability to outscore our expected rivals - we have a history of taking off strikers and packing the defence and generally - at least in my opinion- it tends to end badly for us.

    I get it when you are up against stronger opposition but I think that we should consider ourselves one of the stronger teams in this division.

    Although not much should taken from the Pompey game but when up we still took off Taty and replaced him with Veltman - although he did take up an advanced position.

    Bowen was also subbed but it was so late it was pretty moot.

    All I am saying is that when we find ourselves ahead, I hope we do not as a default revert to sitting deep, I think we have the forward line to go for it and maintain pressure on our opponents rather than inviting it upon us.

    Burnley have loaned Chelsea's 18yo Kazakhstani RW Dastan Satpayev

    At the beginning of July Burnley signed a new shirt sponsorship deal with "trading platform" Finotive and launched their new kit with the slogan "Forever and ever"



    Yesterday Burnley announced they were ending the deal with Finotive and had a new sponsor car dealer Vertu

    Solomon started the first four of Spurs' five pre-season friendlies so he should be fit enough to start and he's had five days to train with the squad

    Hayen said Ashley Barnes won't be available while Lyle Foster and Armando Broja "are both fit, so we try to get them both as fit as possible for the squad.”

    Whatever that means...

    Foster started in South Africa's opening World Cup match with Mexico but stayed on the bench for the next three

    I think a good start in the first few games will be really important, and not just about league position. We have some players who may be in two minds, if they get to enjoy winning and playing well it could sway them. However if we look to be struggling a bit even at this level I think they may become a bit more vocal in their wishes to get away.

    But you are happy to refer to the eighties?
    I referred to the sixties as it was as irrelevant as you bringing up the eighties.

    Yes because we had a very successful promotion campaign in the 1980/81 season when we won the old Divsion Two with a record number points with a very strong defence which we don't have in this upcoming season.

    Really big game because I always think it’s important to set the tone, especially given the expectation. It won’t be an easy game & defeat is not catastrophic, but it would already start a ‘this is going to be tougher than they think’ narrative. Let’s turn up, be on the front foot & hopefully show our quality. Every game this season the target should be 3 points.

    Strangely I am feeling more excited for the start of the season than I have done for a couple of years.

    I suppose it’s the hope that we win more games than we lose. I do also feel that we have some stability, at the moment kept a strong squad, and a manager not out of his depth.

    I shall hang on to this excitement until at least the start of today’s game😁
