  • I am not sure that I had a say in it - if I had it would probably have been Derby County coz they were really good at the time 😂

    Callum Marshall gone to Luton.
  • Callum Marshall gone to Luton.

Sorry to hear that, I thought he was one kid who could have made it.

Frustrating like both Earthy and Potts he couldn't capitalise in a good 24/25 season

Struggled on loan last year, although in 24/25 he did a good job at Huddersfield in League 1

Think this move is good for him, he needs consistent gametime to develop

Shows how dreadful a lot of our recruitment has been, Fullkrug bought for €27m 2 years ago, now maybe worth €5m (and was on loan last season), Alvarez bought for €38m 3 years ago, now maybe worth €15m (also on loan last season), Ward-Prowse, bought for €35m 3 years ago, Transfermarkt valuation of €5m (also on loan last season).

That's €100m worth of assets, devalued to about €25m, and out on loan last season when we were so bad we got relegated.

Thats not how football accounting works according to “The Price of Football” by Kevin Day and Kieran Maguire

A player’s asset value is calculated by dividing his transfer fee by the length of his contract, e.g. we signed Fullkrug for 27m 2 years ago on a 4 year contract, so he’s only valued at 13.5m and if we sell him for 5m we will be making a 8.5m loss

The book actually mentions Mark Noble who by football accounting logic was worth zero as we signed him as a kid so never paid a transfer fee for him
  • I'm well aware, as an ex-accountant, of how football accounting works, but a club like ours can ill afford to make these sort of transfers, they're just not sustainable in the long term.

It's not just breaking even on the book value of an asset we need to be concerned with, it's the fact that we need to make a profit in the transfer market if we're to progress as a club, and transfers like this don't in any way move us forward.
  • Can you be an ex-accountant? ;)

I am sure he would have sought his Dad's advice. I wonder what he advised him to do? Still, a bit of a surprise as he had good championship experience and only a few days ago he was hinting to stay. Maybe, fell out with Nuno or maybe Nuno has his eyes on an upgrade. On Saturday, we once again looked lightweight in creativity and forward positions.
  • I know he wasn't the next big thing, but as a family connection, I'm a bit sad to hear this, but if it's best for his career, I wish him well....
  • He is at the stage of his career he needs to be playing now and bench warming for Nuno wouldn't do him much good.
  • Reported by talkSPORT that Bowen can leave for £15m next summer if we don’t get promoted.
  • Then we'd better get promoted

I think that I would have stopped reading after talkSPORT
  • Yes, that Alvarez report has just appeared in my Facebook feed.
  • Alvarez would be like a new signing if true that he really does want to stay
  • I think if things start well for Alverez he could snowball and be a star player at this level, but is just as possible he could lose interest and be finding a club in January if it doesn't.
  • Fullkrug on a season long loan to Werder Bremen

    Back where he was 2023!

  • Could never see him playing for us in the Championship, at least most, if not all his wages are off the books for the season.

Couldn't see him playing for us ever under any circumstances, truely a horrible signing which is a shame as at the time thought we were getting a great deal

    Adios
