    Were there any real attempt to take the Falklands by force it would be interesting as the US would likely support their right wing govt, not militarily but politically, which would give huge confidence to the Argentinians to gather political support. A failure to go to war over it from the UK would likely bring down any Govt in power at the time. It really is a problem. Fortunately it is also a huge risk to any Argentinian Govt to try and take the Falklands because they will recall how it went last time. Warfare is very different now and it would play out differently but once again you could bet there would be no winners.

    I would quite like the England players today to unfurl one of two banners to test the Americans guys love of free speech or to just confuse the rest of the world.

    I’ve seen a lot of comments (not on here) about our sinking of the General Belgrano. A friend of mine was a submariner and it was he who actually launched the fatal torpedo. He’s never got over it and suffers ptsd to this day.

    I remember it well. it was sailing away from the exclusion zone and apparently behind the scenes diplomatic channels were about to bear fruit but Thatcher wanted a war at that point so ordered the strike. The Argentine response was HMS Sheffield. An utter tragedy.

    I feel for your friend. It's one of the huge issues with war, you can supply people a narrative for the wat but the human system is not ruled by narrative and so the mind and nervous system will pay a price that narratives of 'us and them' can't adequately reach.

    In the first and second world was when a nervous system got overwhelmed and went into freeze mode and couldn't follow an order, or went into flight mode and ran away our own soldiers shot them.

    Argentina down to 14 now, and we're up to 14 so even Stevens for the moment.

    And England manage to score a Bonus Point 4th try, and Argentina are now down to 13 lol.

    Dramatic ending, as 13 man England (or was it 12 man, defo 2 off in the sin bin, but a third was stretchered off I believe with 97 seconds left and England leading by 14 points).

    Argentina score a converted try, then score again with the clock in the red only for there to be a lengthy TMO with the ref keen to award the try but the TMO saying it was in touch. A try would have allowed a conversion attempt from the touchline, but eventually the TMO prevails and the try is disallowed. England win 31-24.
