  • so how does Millwall compare to us =)
  • Quite a few Tottenham fans would disagree & there are no reasons why we can’t get our house in order to increase our revenue. None of those reasons can’t be addressed. I would rather have high hopes going forward, some might say unrealistic ones, than just settle for what we have had to contend with recently.
  • 85m for Fernandes is brilliant business. Astonishing.
  • We cannot turn that down, they certainly backed the truck up

Quite a few Tottenham fans would disagree

Well, if they are disagreeing with the actual financial accounts, they are evidently stupid.

And we should just ignore them. I mean, who cares what they think anyway.

If you mean they disagree that West Ham have been run shambolically ( is that a word) for 16 years then please give me a list of their names.

If you mean that they feel they have been equally badly run for 16 years... Yeah well, not sure you are going to sell that to anyone with their wits about them.

Finally, of course we all hope things will improve financially and strategically, but it's not going to happen quickly enough to mean we have the cash to splash equal to Spurs this transfer window, is it.

I think we all want things to improve but looking to double revenue while in the Championship is not reasonable. Maybe over 5 years, but that depends a lot upon the investment being made now, stadium ownership and getting back into the Prem.
  • I don’t expect us to be spending a lot in this window but may be able to do so in the years to come. Tottenham didn’t spend big on transfers or wages and that was the beef the supporters had with the way the club was run under Levy 👍.
  • IF he has to go then they can pay what we want and not low ball us. They should know by now that we aren't going to be stitched up that is why Fernandes is going to Tottenham and not them.
  • Interesting that Man Utd seem to have financial limitations while Spurs are spending like there’s no tomorrow
  • I think they realise that they’ve spent £70m on 3 or 4 duds recently and are being cautious.
  • Fernandes sale is now official.

Sad to see him go but great bit of business.

    Signed for -£37m
    Sold for £85m
    Sell on fee -£12.75m
    Profit £35.25m
  • Amazing deal for us and in a single move we've eased most of our financial concerns

Next will be seeing who wants out, and who can be convinced to stay or the ones we want

Bowen, Summerville, Taty are probably the 3 you think we need to try convince to stay as they'll all have significant interest

  • Unsure if this should be on the transfer speculation thread or here but reference Ravel @ 2.56 on the ? IF we are to sell Taty it has to be for a profit as we aren't giving our assets away on the cheap.
  • Hopefully the 15% sell on was on profit only in which case it’s about £7.2M.
Can’t remember the last time we sold a player with no add ons and fee upfront and made a profit.

Like Kudus a year ago? £15-20mil profit on that one
  • Was it full fee upfront. I didn’t think it was.
  • Yes it was thornburyiron otherwise he could have gone to Manchester United instead as they offered £70m plus an additional £15 million in add ons.
  • Daniel Levy would be turning in his grave, had he died. Spurs have gone from paying least and selling for most to now just offering the asking price...
  • candbsky, I accused our owners of not paying what selling clubs wanted to ensure we got our top targets & got seriously criticised 🤷‍♂️.
  • It's all about opinions @Fortuneseeker.
  • Fortune I know it was. I was talking about Kudus last summer.

Slightly curious... Do you mean you pointed out the fact that they wouldn't pay whatever anyone asked and were criticised for pointing it out?

Or do you mean you expressed an opinion that they SHOULD have paid whatever anyone asked, and some people disagreed with you?

    Or something else?
  • From TalkSport

Manchester United have opened talks over signing Summerville but any move will be dependent on what happens with Rashford

Rashford has a £40m release clause as long as its not Liverpool or Man City

Now that is an extremely Man Utd clause

@MrsG, I posted that other teams select a player as one of their top targets and "appear" to pay what is required to get the deal done quickly although it may not be that simple. Whilst we used to keep offering low bids another club would just bid what was required and we would miss out again this appeared to be the case over many years when DS was in charge of transfers. Look at what has happened at Tottenham in the last few weeks since they realised the way Daniel Levy used to conduct transfers doesn't get you the top players. I know await the we can't compete with the Big 6 comments =) Remember we are supposed to be a world class team in a world class stadium!

Its not really true though is it

The fact you reference Spurs but the only reason Spurs managed to get him is United did NOT want to pay the full price, even after Spurs bid was accepted as they just didnt value Fernandes as much as we wanted, even if he was their first choice

City wanted Tonali but didnt value him above £80mil

Not long ago Jorginho was Citys #1 target, but they wouldn't meet the bid Chelsea matched and then they "settled" for a far superior player in Rodri

The only reason you cant see it is because you dont look at the others teams transfers as closely

We have wasted so much money just matching asking prices and look where we are

Football isnt simple, it may seem it but its not. If it was, everyone would get better.

Every million spent or saved has repercussions, especially these days with such things as FFP, PSR and now SCR
  • Football as a game is simple. Football as a business is far from it.
  • The only reason you cant see it is because you dont look at the others teams transfers as closely

Thank you WHU, How do you know if I don't look at other teams transfers? We have lost money over the years but that is because we have sold good players at a loss because we didn't it appears fully look at what system best utilised their ability, Haller and Scamacca spring to mind.
  • Not sure if its been covered, but Guido Rodriguez left permanently for Valencia for an undisclosed fee

Not sure itll be much, but any fee & wages ofd the bill is a step in the right direction
