  • Moyes got JWP whilst Steidten thought we should sign Fofana I know who I would have preferred. DM was never going to allow TS to operate as he needed to so that is where the problems started.

This is quite selective, isn't it? That summer we also signed Alvarez, Mavropanos and Kudus - all of whom were TS signings, if I recall correctly. JWP had a good first season for us too - 7 goals and 11 assists is a good return if you ask me.

On JWP I think he had a good first half dozen games where he got some of those contributions. Then some on corners but we had been good on corners before him so not sure that’s a meaningful change. He got dropped deeper (I think after Kudus signing?) and I always felt was detrimental to our overall team play but it ended up being Soucek who got most of the criticism from fans.

He was obviously a big step down from Rice, but I think anyone would have been. It was, IMO, a poisoned chalice to be the guy to replace him, and we scored 18 goals that season because of his direct contribution.

Would that have been the chalice from the palace with the brew that is true? ;)

  • @alderz, If those three were TS signings that just reinforces my point. The only one we were rumoured to be keen on that DM wanted was McTominay who played in the right position based on his time so far at Napoli would have been a great signing.

Steidten might have wanted Fofana but that doesn't mean we would have signed him. He turned down a move to Forest, Man Utd and Inter had offers rejected as well as being linked with loads of other clubs bigger than us.

When he operated without Moyes we signed Fullkrug, Summerville, Wan Bissaka, Killman, Rodriguez and Guilherme plus Todibo and Soler on loan. Some good but more not so good

Are we destined to be relegated once again on the highest historical points total of 42…it would be the most West Ham thing to do in the world of West Ham
  • Leeds to win 17-0 tomorrow night, and then we win both our games, and stay up on goal difference on the last day.
  • When it is confirmed (which I assume it will be), I think we need to replace the management - a complete refresh. Nuno hasn’t come in with 15 games to go, he’s been here since October. It’s not been enough & we need a complete squad & management reset.
  • I couldn’t agree less. He’s done a great job since he actually had players that suited his style of play. I’d hand him the keys.
  • Nuno has been brilliant, he took a bunch of players that Lopetgui and Potter made look like a mid table championship side and turned them into genuine Premier league players. I would beg him to stay were I sully, but sadly he will go as he is better than the Championship. I would offer him a huge sum for gaining promotion.
  • He will have a much harder job next season as half the starting line up will have left.
  • I think it will be more than half as I can’t name many of the 13 who played today who will be here next season.

  • I don’t know what proportion it will be because I can’t tell the future.
  • this may be a "hot take" but I hate the Premier league. It is a soulless money grab of players who don't give a flying about the teams they are playing for and would leave at the drop of a hat and a sniff at a better wage, where refs and var favour the "top teams" and fairness goes out of the window.
My company offices are next to the London Stadium and every time I'm there, it makes me realise how far we have fallen in pursuit of being one of the "big" PL clubs. I love WH, just not this current iteration of our club.
  • Anyone going to watch Spurs tonight ,Don't think I can take it ,Will check the score and might catch the last few minutes if by some chance Leeds are leading .

Nope will check back at 10pm muttering under my breath "cmon Leeds"
A win for leeds we have a chance,a draw and we have a bit of a chance.Leeds lose and it's Bob Hope and no hope!
  • I was thinking about how annoying it would be to go down with 40+ points, and how it feels a bit unfair given the low bar to stay up in recent years. I think I'd like it if, instead of bottom three, it was anyone who doesn't reach 40 points goes down each year. So in 2022/23 you'd have had six teams go down, and potentially this year you might only have two. That would be fun. Although we would have gone down in 2019/20 so maybe not.
  • I thought we were going down but I’ve had an epiphany that City will be deducted 60 points for their cheating.

They’ll do it this season once Arsenal have won the title so they don’t have to deal with stripping a title from them too.

Remember when he came on here to do sort of an AMA style thing? Good, mad times.
  • Did that really happen?
  • Did that really happen?

Yep. He came in because nearly everyone was very sceptical of him, and then he left and we were less sceptical, more aware he knew nothing
  • Did that really happen?

I'd forgotten until alderz mentioned it, then I remembered. Crazy business.
  • I’m going to look for that thread now
  • I think it has been deleted during a de-cluttering drive a few years back.

Yeah I can’t find an account with his name unfortunately
  • I recently started deleting accounts of people who hadn't been active within the last 10 years :p
