Oh. I was just doing a bit of research and apparently according to NBC this offer made by Russia to US earlier in February.

No wonder Ukraine thinks the idea of 'de facto security' is a joke.
  • I understand the major European leaders are going to put their heads together with Ukraine and come up with a peace proposal to present to the US.

I simply cannot see Trump going along with a plan where he is not seen to be the architect and in the center.

His ego just will not allow it
  • Trump and that awful thing that is his VP really showed their true colours on Friday. Trump is a thin skinned bully who just can’t handle it if he doesn’t get his own way. I think we all had an idea of what he was really like but there it was laid out for the world to see.
  • That Vice president is trying to achieve some appearance of relevance as he knows that in all but name Musk is the second in command, if not first...
  • Even some who voted for trump are having second thoughts, unfortunately it’s too late. How much better it would be if Kamala had won….
  • Just for the record, I am in the camp that strongly felt, at the time and still now that the Democrats did us a disservice in allowing Biden to run for a second term, it was never the plan and should never have been the plan.

Had he stood down early, his legacy would have been strong and the democrats could have held a proper primary and how much better would it have been if someone else had run against him.

I still maintain that Trump did not so much win as Kamala was roundly rejected, she lost ground to Biden in nearly every jurisdiction, I think a properly primaried candidate would have easily beaten Trump.

But we are where we are……and what a hot mess it is.
  • I completely agree chicago, initially allowing Biden to run was a huge mistake and, as you say, prevented the Democrats from picking a suitable candidate to go against Trump. By the time even Biden realised he wasn't fit for a second term it was too late really to put anyone other than Kamala forward.

  • Zelenaskyy wasn't going to give minerals without security guarantees and Trump doesn't want to put US troops into Ukraine.

Putin never planned on the war lasting this long, the economy is in deep trouble with oil prices dropping and the fact that he's having to draft in troops from North Korea doesn't suggest he has unlimited manpower to call upon.

He might not fear Starmer and Lammy but they're not alone, the whole of Europe (apart from Hungary) are supporting Ukraine

    63k USA troops in Europe
78k UK army, 138k when including RN and RAF
Europe has a combined total of 1.9m troops

  • For me, I have still not got my head around the resolution held in the United Nations the prior week where the United States of America could not vote in favor of condemning Russia as the aggressor in the conflict, siding with North Korea, Belarus, Sudan and the Congo, utterly unbelievable

That, surely was USA's day of shame. Every previous president since Truman must have been spinning in their graves.
  • I think he’s achieved exactly what he wanted to do and that’s make Europe stand up and be counted rather than relying on the US.
Already since yesterday the French have said they will not put boots on the ground and Germany have always said the same.
Realistically whatever solution is suggested will require US backing for it to happen. As for his not voting in favour of condemning Russia as the aggressor, the US abstained rather than voting with North Korea etc and keep accusing Russia, even if it’s right, is not likely to help with the peace process.
Whatever Trump is I definitely think he wants peace, partly because he wants minerals in recompense, but chiefly he doesn’t want to keep throwing US taxpayers money at a European war.
I think his major concern as it is for us is China.
  • Just for the record, the US voted fully against the original U.N. resolution casting Russia as the aggressor and calling for a withdrawal of troops and then proposed a counter resolution which simply called for a swift end to the conflict with no mention as to cause.

The French pushed through an amendment highlighting Russia as the aggressor and the US abstained from that.

IMO, In any event and whatever dark diplomacy the US administration is playing, it was not a good look and a shameful public display.

Whatever mistakes and egregious actions the US have made over the years, there has normally been clear sight as to the moral ideals behind their intentions.

It strikes me that this administrations “America First” policy is being followed to a point with zero regard for historical alliances and worldwide reputation

But maybe that is just me :-)
  • 'the price of everything and the value of nothing' springs to mind.
  • This new 8 second rule for Keepers coming in from next season

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cwyg7jyp82do

Should it be implemented I can see it having quite a big impact as Keepers will need be more alert to where people are the moment they claim the ball, defenders will neeed be more mobile as soon as he gets it and attackers will no doubt be closing down the keepers options fast to pressure him.

  • Well the 6 second rule as stated has been in for donkeys years and I can’t recall it ever being enforced let alone rarely.
Before that it was a six step rule, again never enforced.
Guess this one will last about 2 months.
  • The six step rule was certainly enforced at donkey lane when I was playing, drove me nuts :-)
  • Wasn't it a 4 step rule not 6?
  • It was 4 steps, introduced in the 1960s and replaced by 6 seconds in 1998
  • Neither of which can I remember ever being enforced.
The only time wasting change that still going is the keeper pass back law.

Another rule that was never really enforced, apart from by Mike Dean until he got called out as being the only one to do it, was the holding in the box, which to this day still happens and is never punished.
  • I didn't think I could dislike the bloke more, but he keeps finding more and more ways to annoy me; Infantino is introducing a half time show for the 2026 World Cup Final.

  • The Millwall keeper has had extra games added to his ban.

Due to Fifa's ruling on retrospective action for such things Harold Schumacher is being shot in the morning.

  • Psycho was taken ill on a flight from Las Vegas to London last weekend and the flight diverted so he could get medical treatment in Canada. Still there as far as I can gather, although thankfully on the mend:

It must be a chain, there's one right by the main station in Cardiff.
  • It is, Buffy.
  • Have you seen the Desperate Dan statue in the town centre?
  • Bowen makes the England squad ...........But so to does Rashford and Henderson unreal
  • I don't think he has served Rashford either as I think he needed the Villa move to drop out of the spotlight a little and would have been better served in finding his form again quietly at Villa before being thrust into England headlines again.
