I can't repeat the issue, so I don't really know what to suggest.

I haven't heard it happening to anyone else, at least so far.

I've changed the menu items from text to icons, and the In Memoriam link now works as expected.

You may need a browser refresh to see the changes.

Rav, I had problem with that as well. The post comment button kept running away from my finger. Worked when I went landscape.

Grey, just a suggestion. Have you ever thought about a "go to top" button for mobile. Can be a pain to scroll up sometimes. It's not a major thing though

Missed the point of your post to start with:

saw 'canny' as Geordie 'sharp' or 'clever' rather than Scots 'cannae'.

I've changed the category, which has worked for split threads that had this problem before.

I'd been meaning to have a look at the mobile theme for a while, then I saw the new one on Vanilla.

The majority of the heavy lifting was done by the theme creator; I just tinkered a bit round the edges.

Only issue is when going on a thread, it doesn't take me to most recent comment, just top of the current page.
