That's what I was thinking. See if we can get an incredible loan fee of £5m-£10m like we paid for Zaza and we also shelled out £5m for both Calleri and Tore (in total).
Then the price drops to £20m in the summer and in total we still get our £25m-£30m.
And what if he sorts out his 'family' issues in those six months and is prepared to do a 180 in the summer when we finish 7th. ;biggrin
Agree, but the board will and should be thinking of all options. It can't be bad to run a business that a lot of people come up with ideas for you. It's a huge crowd sourced board meeting.
Does the loan window close at the same time as the transfer window? I assume so but if not the loan can always be the fallback solution.
To Luke's point. It is incredible the amount of loan money we are paying. In property terms we are effectively renting our players instead of leasing them. Not very economical if we don't end up buying them. Happy with Fonte, as he's proven. A few more please.
But if Marseille are the only club willing to 1) buy and 2) buy at a price we want, but are not meeting that price, we either get mugged off or keep him in the reserves.
Lukerz, after some consideration and reading some comments on here I'm now feeling a loan is not so good. I still believe come the summer more French teams will come in for him. However loaning him now is a risk on two fronts:
1. (thanks to JayinCpt for this) the potential for injury. If he is severely injured while on loan, we may never get the big money deal we want in the summer, or ever. 2. What if this 'family issue' is really badly affecting him and he plays really poor even back home in France. His value drops and we don't get the big bucks come summer.
However if we keep him until the summer I feel his value remains high as people remember his previous good form (and in France especially his performances in the Euros) and we get our large transfer when the french teams compete more with available funds come summer. Also if he moves out to France now while we aren't playing him, by not attending training he is breaking contract and thus we need not pay him surely, thereby us not losing money on his wage.
30m its that simple. They tapped him up. Hold firm i say i think Marseilles will pay if not then loan him after the window shuts because the loan window is longer i think. Then look to sell in Summer for 30m
Marseille won't want to loan unless we add a fixed price to buy. They know that if he rediscovers last season's form he will be worth a good deal more than 'only' 30m.
Just finished watching the Chelsea game. I saw Costa got a standing ovation.
I'm genuinely interested to hear some opinions as to how people think Costa and Payet acted differently or not. Did the clubs act differently, did the managers, or the players?
It's just because as far as I can tell they both wanted to leave, Costa was about money, Payet was not. They both refused to train. Yet the treatment Payet has received compared to Costa is quite contrasting. Our fans have given Payet a far harder time. People have smashed his car, abused him on Twitter, insulted him for being French (unacceptable in my view).
If we treated Payet like Costa, maybe he'd be playing again for us. Maybe we wouldn't be desperate to sell him by deadline day.
People will state they don't care and just don't want him playing at our club again. Well others do care and the abuse is wrong. A portion are ruining it for the others. This happens quite often in football nowadays and I don't want us to react in the same way again. He is a valuable asset to our club and one we need to get maximum value from or keep. Unfortunately the later will now be impossible/extremely difficult.
Chelsea have done very well handling the Costa situation. Even though China pulled out, if he'd got the abuse Payet had received he wouldn't have pulled on a blue shirt again without a major amount of reconciliation.
I also think that is has something to do with the season so far. We all saw how lacklustre Payet's performances were. Costa, on the other hand has now got 15 PL goals so far. Now if that is lacklustre then I don't want him playing us if he is motivated!
A matter of principle now, if you tap someone up you meet the price, they have been given 5m off already in my view. I think they can't stomach paying so much for someone they sold for 10m and that's fair enough but don't tap up and then expect to name your own price as well as that makes us look like fools.
If we are not careful we will leave a blueprint for every club who wants one of our players. We should put a statement out if it falls through to the extent of
'if you tap one of our players up please ensure you can afford him first'
I'm feeling like u Twist, let's hope their tactics will work, maybe there is genuine interest from PSG... Either way, I hope he leaves quick , or makes such a u turn in attitude that even a Botox face would show the amazement ;ok

Nothing wrong with a bit of old school tactics. ;lol
I just can't agree with that.
We must hold firm. He goes only if they buy him.

Or loan him, until we get the price we want.

Thoughts please.
Most of the Costa stuff has been rumour. His manager went on the record stating the only issue was medical/injury.
Costa trained on the day that the rest of the 1st team (post game) had a day off.
Whereas Payet has said he won't play for West Ham again, and has gone on strike. And isn't training.
Payet has refused to play for us and has done everything possible to manoeuvre a move away
And yea...Costa has been in the form of his life white Dimi has looked like he doesn't care this season
Payet has not.
PAYET UPDATE
There seems to be no end in sight to the Dimitri Payet transfer saga.
Payet is continuing to train with West Ham’s Under 23 squad and we understand reports that he has been turning up late for training are inaccurate.
As are reports that he walked off the training pitch yesterday. He just went to another pitch to take part in a shooting drill.
"Reports that Dimitri Payet was kicking out in frustration have been dismissed as it turned out he was kicking a football"

Slowly, slowly we're getting there. At least it wasn't £21m!
Source close to Marseille president says they've made another significant bid for Dimitri Payet - in £. Bid rejected. Says they're moving on
They said that after the last two bids.
