Can't say there's a lack of fight .Just think there not good enough
This is it Steve, can’t be mad at them, they all tried their best, we just aren’t good enough, average 11 with abysmal substitutes - squad is so weak & shallow
Bournemouth - 2-0 up after 68 mins, 1 point Brighton 1-0 up after 90 mins, 1 point Villa 2-1 up at HT, 0 points Fulham 0-0 after 84 mins, 0 points Brighton 2-1 up after 59 minutes, 1 point
13 points in our hands, we took 3
The ‘squad’ isn’t good enough to see these games out, once Nuno has to make subs the side deteriorates
The owners should be ashamed that this is the state the squad is in after several years of success
No point crying that Wilson came off, he has to be able to make subs & bring players off, whether that’s after 60, 70 or 80 mins, sadly what he has to offer on his bench is non existent
That’s not on Nuno - fair play to him trusting the likes of Potts, Scarles, Kante, Mayers, but he doesn’t have much choice
Luke the bench is weak but unnecessarily so. Nuno refuses to put JWP in the squad, allows Fullkrug to go to Milan to discuss terms etc with 3 games still to go before the window opens, picks only defenders from the U21’s to fill the bench. No coincidence that our only clean sheet was against a team then managed by our current manager. He constantly bemoans we can’t see games out but doesn’t seem to have any ideas as to how to change this etc etc.
I was happy with the game & what we offered. It’s not enough, sadly, but it’s all we are capable of & it was decent for the players we have, against a side vastly superior in ability to us.

I agree on the JWP front, but Füllkrug has not been an option all season - through injury or form. He doesn’t have much.
Fullkrug may not have been in good form but he was a forward and having an attacking intent on the bench is always useful and sending him to Milan early has saved us just a week’s wages.
Disappointing to lose after being ahead twice, only up side is we gained a point on Forest. It's just a case of our defence is poor and worse than poor at defending corners.
We have fight and we have a a transfer window so there is still hope, but it's getting harder to retain.
I really respected that performance from Scarles today, like so many he will be an asset in the Championship if we do go down. His confidence would have been shot after Saturday but he showed what's inside him today, and it's good.
I thought there was a lot of good in that game. It’s the first time I thought the players genuinely wanted to get 3 points, they got the crowd involved by showing a bit of fight & attitude, that created a better atmosphere & that was against a very accomplished & technically good Brighton side. Yes, they put us under pressure defensively but they are a good team, especially when we made the changes that significantly weakened us. Shame Bowen didn’t nod that free-kick in as I thought that was a sitter by his standards. Defensively there are still big issues & I do feel we need to prioritise a CB in this window ASAP & hope AWB & Diouf come back quickly. Areola still looks like a rabbit in headlights at times & Kilman is still a liability.
We simply must take 4 points from the next two as a bare minimum & hope a couple of results fall for us. Then allow Nuno some money to at least address some of the issues in the squad. A big factor in us throwing away 10 points since Nuno came in is the state of that subs bench.
Next two/three games: West Ham: Wolves (a), Forest (h) Forest: Villa (a), West Ham (a) Leeds: Liverpool (a), Man Utd (h), Newcastle (a)
That game against Forest is going to be huge
And it's Mrs shrugged's birthday so I'm going to be at Sadlers Wells that evening
Leeds haven't lost in five, wins at home against Chelsea and Palace, draw at home against Liverpool, draws away at Sunderland and Brentford. They look like a team set for a mid-table finish
However...
Bournemouth haven't won since October, 5 draws, 5 loses and Semenyo is close to joining City. They're 9pts ahead of us but their next four games are Arsenal H, Tottenham H, Brighton A and Liverpool H, that 9pts could be a lot less by the end of January
The referee was definitely biased towards Brighton IMO. The penalty awarded against Paqueta was admittedly the correct application of the law but how often is it applied, especially for a first incidence of its kind in the match. Well, he's set a precedent now and there needs to be consistency. Let's see how many penalties are awarded for the rest of the season for the same foul. Funny how Murphy and Green didn't make any comment about, you can bet that if it was Liverpool, Murphy would have been mouthing off. And then the Dunk handball, as blatant as it could be, but the ref waved it away. If not for VAR we'd have got nothing.
Paqueta's penalty foul was not the run of the mill corner push and shove. It was a waist high rugby tackle well away from the melee in the middle. Definite penalty.
I missed the Paqueta penalty incident at the time. When I read the comments here I assumed it was an egregious awful thing, but then when I saw it I was quite surprised at the heat the decision was getting on here.
Yes, as I said: "The penalty awarded against Paqueta was admittedly the correct application of the law but how often is it applied, especially for a first incidence of its kind in the match."
As others have said on here, the same thing happens countless times without a penalty awarded.

But it just doesn't. First rugby tackle of the season that I've seen.

I owe you an apology Bubbles. Just seen the rugby tackle on Soucek against Wolves that wasn't given. Identical to Paquetas. 😡
Herb, no apology needed, and actually the two tackles weren't exactly identical. I posted the following on the game thread:
"Matt Upson on comms said it (probably) wasn't given as Krecji didn't have his arms around Soucek's waist. So now it's alright to bring a player down with your arms as long as you don't wrap your arms around him."
My whole point regarding this was that we always seem to be on the receiving end of these inconsistencies.
