West Ham v Brighton, Tuesday 30th December 7.30 pm

edited 8:48AM in Match Threads
Our final match of 2025, a year which has seen us play under 3 different managers and has us currently languishing in 18th place in the Premier League with relegation, if not quite a certainty, a very real possibility. 3 points here would be huge before matches against Wolves, without a win so far this season, and Forest, the team we're desperately trying to overtake to get out of the bottom 3.

Over to you ASLEF.

Not a lot has happened over the last three weeks but Brighton are now five games without a win, drawing 0-0 at home with Sunderland and losing away at Arsenal and Liverpool since we drew down there

Mitoma has recovered from an ankle injury, got some minutes off the bench against Sunderland and Liverpool but missed the Arsenal match through illness

Milner has also recovered but Webster, March and Tzimas are still injured.

CM Carlos Baleba is away at the AFCON although Brighton fans actually seem relieved he's not there. In his absence local hero Jack Hinshelwood has started three in a row

Hurzeler has been quite consistent with his squad selection but he rested Dunk, van Hecke and Wellbeck against Sunderland, handing starts to back ups Boscagli and Coppola with Rutter playing up front

We've never beaten Brighton at home in the Premier League, out last home win was a 6-0 thrashing back in the 2011/12 Championship with Ricardo Vaz Te scoring a hat trick

Our last home win in the top flight was 5th March 1983, we came back from 1-0 down with goals from Dickens and Cottee
  • Wellbeck and Minteh were on the bench against Arsenal, Minteh came on at half time, Wellbeck for the last 15 minutes so likely to start

Brighton also started with a back three but that's the first time Hurzeler has changed from his 4-2-3-1, unlikely he'll be so cautious against us
  • Loss

Brighton are winless in 5 and we always love disrupting these kind of runs

Maybe there is a player who hasn't score for 150 games or so, would put money on them to do it vs us

Paqueta is an enigma and an inconsistent player. He is liable to give the ball away in dangerous positions and is most likely to be booked for petty fouls and theatrics. Maybe he mistakenly believes that he is indispensable. He hasn't done much lately and ought to be benched. Scarles has struggled for a long time. I think Kilman (and Igor too) can play left back.
So my preferred team would be

    Areola
    Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Todibo - Kilman
    Magassa - Potts
    Fernandes
    Bowen - Wilson - Summerville

I would like to see Guilherme on the bench. Hopeful of getting the first EPL home win against Brighton.
  • Summerville IMO has been woeful

I don’t know if we need Potts & Magassa in the same side, for a home game we need to win.

Summerville has been poor when we've played him as a sort of striker in a front two with Bowen but he's been a lot better when played him on the left with Wilson up front

Kilman started out as a left back for Maidenhead in the National League but switched to centre back 2017/18. Last time he played there was Wolves v Arsenal February 2021, they won 2-1 and he did okay by all accounts although Arsenal were down to 10 men by half time then had Leno sent off in the 2nd half

Igor actually played left back in the Carabao Cup against Oxford before he joined us and 14 times in the previous two seasons so he might be a better option

Guilherme could be having a medical in Lisbon tomorrow
