Back from game for my dad’s bday. Thought it was a deserved win. We could have easily been 2 or 3-1 up over the course of the second half with the chances we created. First half was a bit slow & lacklustre (pre-season for you!). Bowen was the only bright spark & it is a concern how much we rely on him. Second half thought we dominated in terms of chances & we were much better with our intensity & press - as shown by the equaliser which was deserved. Shoot-out was fun & a nice way to end, I was sat behind that goal too.
Special shout out to Diouf. Probably the best player aside of Bowen. Todibo & CM still concerns me, as does this formation with Bowen as a striker.
It was very clear we have been working on being aggressive. Lille seemed a very composed passing side, but the amount of times the 3 CBs were aggressive & various other players (JWP & Bowen mainly) were trying to smother the opposition quickly. Diouf & AWB managed it on occasions too. The passing out is going to cause us issues but as far as I am concerned we’re going to have to accept that if we want a more aggressive, ball-playing team. Which I do, for one.
In chasing the game, Potter went for a RWB & two CMs to try & change the game. We are lacking attacking options at the moment. I know Wilson will be available soon & (hopefully) Summerville, but he didn’t trust to give Guilherme any minutes & there were no other attacking subs available. He treated it as a proper game too; only 3 subs & into the last 20 minutes.
I did not see it so my comments have to be treated according but I struggle with bringing on Rodriguez, of what I saw of him during the US series, he was seriously off the pace and lost at sea
West Ham were defeated 2-1 in behind closed doors friendly today against Lille, however some did impress it’s been reported by ExWHUEmployee. Advising on the game on The West Ham Way Patreon, Ex stated that the Hammers were leading at half time through Luis Guilherme. However 2 quick fire goals from Lille won the game. It was noted though that Guilherme impressed and was unlucky when he hit the bar. Lewis Orford also was understood to have caught the eye with an accomplished display in midfield. Unfortunately Callum Marshall missed out due to illness. The player is said to be on antibiotics suffering an infection.
