Someone I work with is football mad, has grown up playing and is basically obsessed with football. Can't remember which way round, but they support one half of the North London Derby in the men's, and the opposite half in the women's. They aren't different sports, but are entirely different entities.

I must admit that I find the above anecdote a little weird, I may not be fully vested in supporting the west ham women’s team, but that is principally due to time, lack of coverage and I really do not find the women’s game as exciting a spectacle, but I do nonetheless “follow” our women’s results and cannot imagine supporting the women’s team of a rival club.
Maybe he has a family member who played for a team or a mate who dated or married a player, I think I can see that, but I do not see myself choosing to actively support another clubs women’s team….maybe that is just me

I find it weird too! I'm certainly not advocating for that.
Has anyone else noticed that Mark Noble has been quiet through all this? I would have thought that by now someone in the meedja would have asked his opinion on the current situation, but it doesn't appear so.
I don’t think it’s just rugby fans who think this. I bet the vast majority of football fans can’t stand the constant feigning injury every time anybody or a puff of wind goes past them.
Rugby does go over 80 minutes and more often they do play 90 minutes. When the 40 minute time is up each half they continue until the ball goes out of play or there is a turnover. Also the clock is stopped whenever there is a stoppage in play so they do actually play the full time allocation in each half.
My main sport on Saturday was Rugby, but Sunday mornings I’d play football in Brentwood. I often used to be asked why I rarely went down when fouled, the simple answer was if I went over on Saturday I’d probably have 10 other great lumps landing on top of me! It sickens me how so many footballers simulate injury and try to ‘buy’ a free kick/penalty. The real issue is how many commentators think this is the right thing to do. I know it’s really a business for the professionals, so they do have different perspectives, but that doesn’t make it any better.

"Football is a game where they spend 90 mins pretending to be hurt, rugby is a game where they spend 80 mins pretending not to be hurt."
Can't disagree with that.
Rugby is a fringe sport, football is global
