    Potter signs West Ham contract
Latest from Sky Sports News' Rob Dorsett:
Graham Potter has now signed the contract which confirms him as the new West Ham United manager, Sky Sports News has been told.
It is thought to be a two-and-a-half-year deal
  • 9 am tomorrow news conference.
  • I have reservations about Potter but less than I had about Lop. I think there’s enough to be excited about. In the immediate term, we just have to be more solid and stop giving so many chances up. Then we can worry about playing better football further along the line.
  • Potter's almost got a free hit, as, as long as we don't end up in a relegation battle, not too much will be expected of him. He'll get to run his thumb over the team for the rest of the season and then hopefully he'll have a good idea of what he needs in the summer to set us up for a better season next time.
  • i just hope Kudus likes potter if he can get a tune out of him then we dont only get a good player back .But a player who could be worth 80 million .Cos no way we get that kind of money for him on this season form
  • Never heard of his backroom staff, Grainger and Weasely
  • Money for transfers will be an issue.
  • Well I try not to be a hypocrite in life as I fancied him from the off, I actually thought that J-lo - (sorry slacker) might have come good as, imo, he had brought about enough change that given time could have produced a decent spell but I cannot pretend to be anything other than happy that Potter is now in charge.

We have a decent squad and I am very hopeful that we can look forward to some positive football and results

  • Like all our management appointments I really hope he’s a great success.Just wait until we hit ( another) bad patch and the knives will be out, again. Disappointingly I’m seeing little difference between our fan base and Chelsea’s.
  • Yeah we’ve changed since the European success.

I have reservations about anything SKY say…….⚒

I don't think so. The level has dropped since then and we've become a hard watch. Tie that in with the concessions issue, the general distrust of Sullivan and Brady and conceding 4 or more in 10 out of the last 65 domestic games in the last season and a half then supporters get fed up.
  • I hope he re-establishes the team spirit we had under Moyes. He's meant to be good at that, and developing young talent as well. Fingers crossed 🤞
  • I’m sorry to see this. I was hoping he would see out the season as I don’t think we are at risk of relegation but now we’ll never know. What if Potter only gets 23 points for the rest of this season. That will probably be enough to see us to safety but will we then sack him and look for someone else.

  • Somehow i think a version of this chant will come back for Graham

In that case a lot would depend on how we get them.
  • Potter came across well in his presser, just a shame that, as always, our PR department can't sort out microphones for the reporters as the questions he was asked were barely audible.
  • I haven't watched it yet (am just about to do so), but Analytis United have just dropped a video on Potter on Youtube.
  • I kinda wish we managed to find the next Iraola etc. But that's easier said than done

Hope he was a first choice not just the first choice of who was unemployed and available

Good luck to him, has my full support hopefully he can hit the ground running to get some inevitable pressure off his back early

Sullivan only recruits from those who are unemployed and available, no point wishing otherwise. However, I think he's a good appointment regardless.
  • Reading around the interweb while Potter is known to be tactically flexible his preferred formation at Brighton and Chelsea was 3-4-2-1

Lopetegui tried 3 at the back against Chelsea at home and Forest away but we lost both games 3-0

We don't know how long Tobido is going to be injured, Alvarez and Cresswell are makeshift options but that's hardly ideal, otherwise there's Kaelan Casey from the kids

Reckon Potter's January transfer priority could be a centre back or two
  • Although Aguerd has struggled to adapt to the PL, I wonder if he'd be more suited to playing in a 3 (come next season) or if he just wants away from English football.
  • He's supposed to be good at coaching players to make them better...

So maybe he could do that with the players we have, rather than buying new ones.

That would get my approval. ('Cos I know he's worried about my opinion!)

I'm really happy with the appointment, but I think there's a question mark over whether he's even the first choice of unemployed and available managers, given he was both unemployed and available in the summer when we went for Lopetegui.
  • So when he was Brighton manager..
    He signed a certain..
    Neal Maupay ‼️
  • Talk now of Mourinho to Everton. There was a Twitter rumour that we paused our conversation with Potter on account or Mourinho contacting us to say he was interested, no idea if that's true.

It will be interesting to see how both managers do if taking over at the same time as both clubs around the same position and same potential I guess. Mourinho has a great CV and was Pep before Pep came along, but has only done OK regard his jobs since his high points. In contrast Potter has little Premier league experience compared to Mourinho and failed in the shot he was given at Chelsea. Potter has it all to prove where as Mourinho has nothing to prove, I am hoping that is what works in our favour as it did with Moyes, it's Potters opportunity to show that Chelsea wasn't down to him and that he his best days are still ahead of him, where as Mourinho's are definitely behind him.

Well, he might now be first choice (he coulda been second choice behind J-Lo in the summer) and, as I mentioned previously, I believe he was still being paid a huge salary by Chelsea at that point whereas now I think he's agreed a settlement.

I know MrsG said that might suggest he's more motivated by money than managing a team, but I still see it as being very similar to, say, Ings (or any other highly paid player) refusing to accept a move away from a club where they are not getting football to a club where they would play, but get paid less money. Why would Potter want to accept a pay cut just to manage us? I see no problem with him waiting for a pay-off from Chelsea before taking another position, personally I don't think that reflects badly on him or suggests that he lacks motivation to manage us.
