Cunha

Matheus Cunha is playing a blinder this season, Wolves top scorer with 7, joint top for assists with 3 and top in just about every other attacking stat you can think of. Despite all that he's had a couple of quiet games after scoring twice and providing an assist in Wolves 4-1 win at Craven Cottage.

Like us Wolves followed their away win with two losses, 4-2 at home to Bournemouth at the weekend and 4-0 at Goodison on Wednesday night with Craig Dawson scoring twice

O'Neil plays 3-4-2-1 away although a plague of defensive injuries means that CM/DM Mario Lemina has been playing as a makeshift centre back for the last three matches

Out of the summer signings only Brazilian DM Andre (Fluminense £18.5m) and Norway CF Jorgen Strand Larsen (on loan, Celta Vigo) have secured regular starts while the others have mostly been confined to the bench

Nelson Semeda will sit this one out after picking up his 5th yellow but otherwise its pretty much the same side we beat twice last season minus Kilman and Neto

On paper this should be an easy win but...

  • With 2 own goals I presume someone misses out on an assist.
  • Manager sacking derby
  • With 2 own goals I presume someone misses out on an assist.

The PL Fantasy game shows assists for both the own goals so the Prem stats would include them too.
  • Make or break.....I always want us to win..........B_ _...........It's one of those games...many might be shaking their heads in disgust...but I'm as honest as I see it..If it means someone leaves the building.....so be it....is what it is......COYI.......
  • Frankly if Wolves sack GO'N then they aren't going to get a replacement who will do any better

In the last two seasons they've sold Collins, Kilman, Nunes, Neves and Neto for a combined total of £217m and the only major signing was Cunha for £44m

Everton is the only other club that has received more than it spent on transfers two seasons in a row and that is not a recipe for success in the Premier League
  • RW Pablo Sarabia missed Everton with a calf injury that keeps coming back. Late fitness test 50/50

DM Boubacar Traore out until Boxing Day
  • Whatever the outcome of this game, Lopetegui has to go. We have regressed and had too many false dawns. Each followed by a spanking. May be best thing to do would be to ask Mark Noble to take-charge of a couple of games (like Brooking did) whilst the new manager beds-in. As claret and blue flows his veins that would also help to life morale.
  • Clearly we have to change things up as Antonio is not an option for us and won’t be for a while, and we already know that Ings is not effective up top on his own.

Strangely it may work for us as I would love to Ings alongside Fullkrug - an old fashioned competent centre forward and a “fox in the box”

With Bowen and Kudus causing mayhem with runs - there must be goals in that line up.

Now if we can only stop shipping them

    COYI

  • Ings is (potentially?) injured. Fullkrug still not fully match fit.

Maybe going forward, yes. But for Monday we are surely looking at Bowen as the number 9.
  • Safest bet has to be Bowen in the centre, Kudus on the right and Summerville on the left. Paquetta trying to supply them with Soller and Soucek behind him. If going a bit leftfield I would put Alveraz alongside Kilman instead of Mavro if Tobido is unavailable or out of favour. I hope Fulkrug is ready for some more minutes again but can't imagine he will be ready to start after such a long time out.

We really do need win this one!

Alvarez played CB against Chelsea and struggled as he lacks pace and was picked-off by Jackson.
  • Really hope the team use what's happened to Antonio to their advantage, surely they'd want to give a great, winning performance for him and his spirits....Here's hoping.....COYI & COY Antonio .....

    Areola
    Wan-Bissaka - Mavropanos - Kilman - Emerson
    Souček - Álvarez - Soler
    Kudus - Bowen - Paquetá

    3 points for Micky
  • I understand that Todibo and Lopetegui are rumoured to have had a falling out, but Mavropanos makes us so much worse in defence. I think you have to start Todibo, personally.

I agree with that if he is able to but there could have been a break down too big to risk him not putting it all in. I don't know what happened or how it was left. I agree he should be professional enough to play to his full ability regardless of personal issues, but we know with some that is the case and some it isn't. I agree about Mavro, he has a good attitude but is just not premier league standard. I would play Alveraz who has the benefit of having played in the position or possibly Rodriguez who may not have but has a little more height for crosses.

Soucek could play CB if required but Todibo must play else JLo is putting pride above the team imo. Also he's been our best defender over the past few weeks.
  • GO'N said "the squad is likely to be very similar to what it was"

    Against Everton

    Sa
    Lemina Dawson Bueno
    Doherty Andre j.Gomes Ait-Nouri
    Guedes Cunha
    Strand-Larsen

    Subs
    GK Johnstone, GK Bentley,
CB Toti, RB Lima CM Doyle, CM Bellegarde RW R.Gomes, LW Forbs, RW Hwang

Sarabia is still doubtful with his calf,

Pundits musing that Hwang could start, he has been a sub for the last three games after recovering from an ankle he picked up in October but hasn't started in the league since August. He replaced a lacklustre Guedes after an hour against Everton and that was Guedes first league start.

Some bright spark has dubbed this match "El Sackio"
  • Also Nelson Semedo is not suspended for this one, he missed the Everton game for 5 yellows. He'd started 11 games out of 11 he was available so likely to start at RB/RWB instead of Matt Doherty
  • Fabiański, Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Kilman, Emerson, Soler, Souček, Álvarez, Kudus, Summerville, Bowen ©
Subs: Areola (GK), Cresswell, Coufal, Todibo, Rodríguez, Paquetá, Luis Guilherme, Ings, Füllkrug

Players need to step up. Stop scapegoating the manager, work hard & show some mental toughness.

Some of these players have been awful all year.
  • 3 points for the taking here if we can defend effectively. AWB to prioritise supporting Mavropanos over getting too far forward. Kudus is good enough to attack from the right without AWB overlapping. COYI
  • Sam Johnstone gets his first Premier League start since 5th October. He's started 6 times and his only clean sheet was against Norwich in the Carabao

Jose Sa has a shoulder problem but he had a confrontation with Wolves fans at half time against Everton and had to be retrained by the stewards

Toti and Semeda replace Dawson and Guedes

    Could be 3-4-3 or 4-5-1
  • First goal could be huge tonight, although it feels as though there could be a lot of goals in this match, from either side or even from both sides.
  • Wrong kit?
  • How was that not a yellow for the foul on Summerville?
  • A real scare as they break, but put wide.

Game seems to be opening up.
  • Another chance for us but it falls to Mavropanos and it goes over the bar.

Considering they've conceded the most goals from set pieces this season (I think), I don't get why we keep taking short corners, especially as Dawson not playing.
  • Looks like Bowen has been taken off corners. Summerville and Emerson are on duty. We’re persisting with the short corners that are not working.
  • Missing a focal point here, but not playing badly we could arguably be ahead if Mavorpanos kept his footing
