Arsenal (H) 5:30pm Saturday 30 November live on Sky

I wasn't expecting to start this thread but thanks to an excellent performance from us and a poor performance from Newcastle I'm now not expecting to start the Leicester thread.

J-Lo will have to watch this one from the stands after picking up his third yellow card on Monday but even with Alvarez available I can't see any reason why he wouldn't start the same XI. Soucek, Paqueta and Soler looked far better than any of the combinations we've tried this season with Paqueta in the deeper role he usually plays for Brazil

Arsenal comfortably bear Sporting 5-1 in Lisbon last night although the mood was dampened a little with Gabriel Magalhaes going off injured near the end

Otherwise Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are the only absences with neither expected back any time soon. Rice missed the November internationals with a broken toe but was back on the bench at the weekend and played 70 minutes last night

New faces include LB Riccardo Calafiori (£42m Bologna), CM Mikel Merino (£27.4m Real Sociedad), David Raya (on loan last season, £27m Brentford) plus Neto and Raheem Sterling on loan

Up from the Arsenal U21s is 17yo CM/RW/AM Ethan Nwaneri who scored his first Premier League goal against Forest

We got thumped 6-0 when Arsenal last visited us in February. That was live on Sky too

If I were a betting man I'd lump on Paqueta getting booked in this one. He's on 4 yellows, and apparently will miss the Leicester game as he's got to be in Brazil for a hearing at the time, so the perfect time to serve his suspension.

Knowing our luck any yellow he gets would be deemed intentional and so they would add another game to the ban. 🤦‍♂️
  • Todibo Came off against Newcastle .said it was a hamstring any news on that

Apparently he may be doing the hearing via video link.(C&H)
  • I'd hope so. A totally unnecessary flight.

Either way I think it's likely he'll miss the game, as the hearing is on the 3rd (same day as the Leicester game).
  • If Todibo is fit, it’s the same 11. If not Mavropanos comes in for him & the rest are unchanged.

Just browsing our opponents forum to see how they are seeing it and two comments stood out.

' Let's make this interesting - Loser has to keep Rice!'

No one came to intervene over this comment so I am astounded. Where did this come from?

'They are genuinely one of the worst teams in the prem but they’re probably at an advantage without their rubbish manager on the touchline.Anything less than 3 - 0 win would be embarrassing.'

Someone didn't watch the Newcastle match.....
  • I’d say the age of that last comment is probably still doing GCSEs
  • GCSE's? That bright? Nah!
  • So do we play Antonio in this game or save him for tuesday against Leicester .Cant see him playing both ,Hard to change a winning team so think J.L will start him against the Gunners.
  • With Kudus still out I don't think we have another option, Kudus will be eligible to play at Leicester however, so if needed Bowen could move more central for that match.
  • Doesn’t seem to be any pics of Paqueta in training after Lopetegui said we had a couple of issues.
  • Arteta says

"We have to see how the boys are. A few weren’t able to train"

    On Gabriel "Wait and see"

An injury update from the Moyes school
  • Just need another performance where we see more good things like against Newcastle. We’ve seen glimpses so far with lots of average or rubbish stuff too. We need another encouraging performance, ready for a run of games against sides we can hopefully try & take points from. I find it difficult to see any other result but an Arsenal win today. They are already 9 points adrift so it is absolutely must win.
  • I agree the performance is important today even if we don't manage points (hopefully we do). We need to be competitive in the match and create chances, we can't allow them to overrun us and score a hatful as it will negate the confidence we hopefully took from the great result in the week.

    Unchanged starting 11:

Fabiański, Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Emerson, Soler, Souček, Paquetá, Summerville, Bowen ©, Antonio
Subs: Areola (GK), Coufal, Mayers, Scarles, Rodríguez, Álvarez, Irving, Luis Guilherme, Ings

No Mavropanos on the bench, Mayers comes in for him although I suspect Alvarez would be first cover at CB.
  • Cresswell & Mavropanos must’ve been the players JL was referring to.
  • Expecting to lose but hope we at least stay in with a chance and don’t get steamrolled very quickly like last season
  • Looking forward to this one COYI
  • Good early discipline in pressing and keeping them in their own half - good to see

Our midfield was slow to come out following their corner
  • Oh dear

Could be another of those nights. Everyone knows how dangerous they are at corners except us. Do we not watch other teams play.
  • Their biggest threat from a corner and nobody with him
  • Bad start 0-1😞
  • Back to normal service
  • Got to say that was a well worked corner Killman was standing there all alone and all of a sudden was surrounded - no one picked up Gabriel’s run and it was a free header
