First half was truely truely rubbish, we were awful! Lopetegui got it wrong, totally wrong. Paqueta had no business playing given his form, Soler offered pretty much nothing and Mavropanos (who I actually feel for) always seemed to be keeping them onside... but enough on that
Thought the 2nd half we were the better team, we deserved the win if you take that at HT it was 0-0 without context
The team that started the 2nd half should've started, Summerville was electric, Tobido is such a clear upgrade over Mavropanos and Soucek is the type of guy you need when the going gets tough, he gives his all
Won't lie the penalty I had no idea what was happening and where the infringement was... and looking on the replay it seems a bit soft but I can see why it was given... but honestly I couldn't care less, don't think VAR has helped us since it's introduction nice to get something our way in a big game
A huge win and hopefully this has given Lopetegui a LOT to think abut, mostly that Paqueta and Mavropanos shouldn't be near the first XI
And now I mind less about having to get up early tomorrow when it's half term, to do 2 lessons back to back, because the 2 brothers I'm teaching are Man U fans.
😂
I shall, of course, not mention today's result. Because I am a professional.
It was hard to see the managers thinking on the starting eleven. Summerville was always a direct replacement for Kudus and I have yet to see anything from Soller to support his inclusion. Mavro always looks like what he is, a back up centre half who when called upon you hope is on a good day, as on that day he can certainly do a job, but on a bad day is going to cause some scary moments. Tobido has yet to announce himself the new prime Zouma or Ogbonna but he has been finding his stride and looking the part in moments and should have started. These two must start next match and It's hard not to include Soucek as he is a player who gives his all and can also find a goal here and there, yet I an see why the manager may have wanted persevere with Paquetta as he is the class act when on song, sadly he is out of tune at present.
We should have been 2 or 3 down at half time and the match over but luckily we weren't and came out the better team in the second half, we then ended up winning through a crazy VAR decision. Its hard to know how we came away with three points but I don't really care as we needed them and got them which is all that matters tonight. November brings two games we must look to win now against Forest and Everton as we then have two very tricky ones against Newcastle and Arsenal to follow. I have yet to see a match we look good in but we are scrapping a few points and that's all that matters at present. If we can take points whilst the manager is finding his feet and the team understanding what he wants then hopefully the performances will come later.
Sometimes managers accidentally find their best elevens, and today I think we may have done just that. Good substitutions. Summerville was the spark we needed, Soucek is Mr Reliable and Todibo is class. Time we had a bit of luck with VAR. Important win and a good 3 points.
Woah this season is going to be a rollercoaster. More changes to the 11, more changes at HT to the 11, another half of disjointed football & then a much improved showing. A crucial win but still yet to find consistency in our performances. United should have been 2-0 up at HT, minimum, the penalty was incredibly soft, we rode our luck for lots of the game. The first goal we scored was very good & showed what we want to do when it all clicks & everybody is on the same page.
Our record this season against the bottom 11 teams (currently in the table): Played 6, won 4, drew 2, lost 0
Against the top 8: Played 5, lost 5
The way we are playing is being torn apart by good teams & good players, but is getting us results against everybody else. Only 2 points off the top 8.
Ings went for the ball pulled out when deLigt came through and slammed into his knee. Also Kilman had his shirt tugged in proximity. Total pen for me! Also we’ve had so many things go against us vs Man Ute in the past. So todays victory in a small way makes up for that. Shame they’re in 14th and he’s getting sacked in the morning
I really am not sure what Bowen & Souček are doing for thy equaliser. Both initially marking the two MU players who head the ball, then both drop onto the line, making it four players on our own goal line.
I agree, I thought that Soucek was having a stormer until their goal, he was impactful on so many levels but got caught out in the general melee as last man when they scored
I think we were a bit unlucky with their goal; for sure, we should have defended it better, but I'm pretty sure Alvarez was still off the field after receiving treatment. I do understand why they make a player leave the field after receiving treatment (although the rules obviously accept it's a grey area, as keepers don't have to), but it is pretty harsh at times having to defend when you're a player down through no fault of your own.
Yeah we panicked. Todibo went charging out & then couldn’t get back to mark Zirkzee. This left Bowen to pick him up, who then abandoned him for the goal line. Souček was marking Casemiro, then left him to also go on the goal line, so we ended up with four players stood on the goal line plus Álvarez off the pitch! Six players left to mark United’s entire team of almost 10.
However, watching that second half back, we really did boss that half with the exception of the period between the first & second goals (which was only around 3 minutes). Plus the added time where we decided to protect what we had. Really did play on the front foot & dictated the game.
The first two goals were similar in that Ings fluffed his shot through to Summerville and the Utd player’s header was way off target but went straight to Casemiro.
To be fair, whilst we got an element of luck with the Summerville goal, the winning of the ball back & the incisive three passes to get Bowen into the box deserved that bit of fortune from Ings’ fluffed shot. Was still a very good goal.

The snap ball into Bowen from Toribo was something none of our centre halves would have been capable of over the past 4 or 5 years.

No sympathy for Man U at all.
