I think we were far more in need of a specialist DM when Slav was with us, and it felt like teams were driving a coach and horses through our MF and defense at will.
Since Moyes has come, we seem far more organised defensively as a team. Looking at Zab yesterday (one game, I know, but the bloke is quality) he looked far more capable than just a 'stand in' in that position.
It might be a position we could do with filling, but I would say it could wait for the summer.
Please can everyone just pause before hitting 'quote' when responding to a post, and think if it is necessary... usually, a reference to the poster will be sufficient, rather than a blockquote of a huge chunk of text. Thanks ;beer

Apparently Fleetwood town have put on their twitter feed that they had lodged a club record bid for Mahrez but then decided to withdraw once they became aware of Man City’s interest ;lol
No-one in their right mind offers £150,000 for it.
If, as reported, Anderlecht have already said this month that he can go for £20m, then fair enough, try £15m to test their resolve, but half the asking price?
There was me thinking signings players from lower level PL sides was going to be a piece of cake after Sully said the new stadium would make us seem like a ‘top club’ when selling ourselves to new players.
Oh well.
Then if we did sign players from lower level PL sides you would have said "How's that the next level?' Damned if you do.......
It isn't like buying a house because a house has a publicised price. It's a more flexible commodity whose value is really determined by a lot of factors.
At the end of the day a footballer is worth what somebody will pay for them. There is no universal measure or price listing to judge it by.
But the £20 million is basically the opening play of the negotiation.
No negotiator in their right mind pays the first amount straight away, unless they are a super wealthy institution.
I'm an agent myself (not football) and negotiate every day. It's industry-understood that your first move is exceptionally high/low. Everybody involved in the negotiation knows this is a move to a) show you aren't desperate and b) to show your second/third/fourth offer in a much more reasonable light.
He'll probably get 15 goals for WBA and keep them up. But if he'd signed for us you can absolutely 100% guarantee he would've broken his entire body in his first training session and the owners would get pelters.
He's a huge risk, and I think if we had signed him people would say we haven't learned our lesson from signing injury prone strikers from Liverpool.
Depends when the first bid was ,if it was at the start of the window before they said £20 mil . If a house is on the market for £300,000 it might be massively overvalued and that's why no one has bought it . I don't know who Sam Inkersole is but I am not sure I believe him seems like a click bait report
PLF, he works for Football London, which i think is the 'standard'. He goes to all the pee/post match conferences so id be pretty sure he has contacts at the club.

But is that not a monumental waste of time? I mean, if both parties know that the first offer is always derisory, why even bother? Not being flippant, just interested. What industry do you work in Jorderz?

Seems insulting to me.

His current owner has said he'll cost £20m.
Yes, they may let him go for a bit less, but do you really think they'd consider accepting half what they value him at?

Anyway still linked with the Russian striker. Valuation is 12m

If you know a club wanes £20m, maybe they £16m and some bonuses or a player exchange. Then work your way up.
You don’t go in at £10m.
What goes around comes back round...
Which is fair enough.
And gives me a bit more confidence that a deal can be struck.
