  • If moyes gets the defence sorted and gets us a system to play we have decent attacking players I think we will be ok . I hope a decent fitness coach is being appointed and I hope we are better drilled and all the players know what they are doing at set plays especially corners. I hope he takes his chance to show that he can be a good manager again . There is not a lot between the teams in the bottom half of the table if he can squeeze more out of the team we should be mid table
  • Moyes has been given his chance and I would imagine is very grateful to the owners who I think are taking the real gamble. I don't think many expect Moyes to succeed as it is hard to find many people who consider this an inspired appointment. However for him his stock is rock bottom at present and so to fail will simply leave him where he was, I don't think the owners will fare so well however and come late season if we are in the drop zone I think all anger will be directed at them, I think they have really put their head on the line, they may end up deserving of a round of applause through having the courage of their conviction in spite of the weight of objection or having to recognise they probably are in the wrong job as everyone else could predict something they couldn't, and they repeated the same mistake as they did with Grant.

There are real similarities in that both managers were brought into save a club from relegation, both took the respective club down and The Dave's have now employed both, will the outcome be different this time, I hope so because you know what is said about doing the same thing repeatedly but expecting a different result.

As for David Moyes, I hope he proves myself and all the other doubters wrong and that we all end up having to recognise our lack of vision, I will certainly be very happy to eat that particular slice of humble pie.

    Good luck David ;ok
  • C&B I don't think Grant was brought in to save us from relegation. He joined pre season and had been a successful manager at Chelsea. Trouble was he had the same problem as Slav in that he couldn't get them to do what he wanted or more worryingly couldn't, because he didn't know himself, tell them what he wanted.
  • Sorry Thorn I meant the previous club, He was bought in to save Portsmouth as Moyes was hoped to steer Sunderland away from perpetual relegation scraps, my point was both took their clubs down and we have now bought both back into the Premiership. I am hoping we don't find out again that taking on someone who just failed to do what you are asking them to do is not a good plan. It's almost the opposite of Big Sam as he has been employed now at Christmas the past two seasons as he has saved someone previously in Sunderland and Palace, I expect him to be courted again.

gone are the days where you can actually go to work and say something as banter and get blown out of proportion,

If you mean 'gone are they days when you can say something sexist' and not get pulled up on it ... Brilliant, say I.

Of course, they haven't really gone, have they. Sadly.
No didn’t mean anything sexist and apologise if that’s our it came out meant banter between friends not sexist or bullying, just imo think the Moyes thing got out of hand taken out of context I don’t believe Moyes thought he’d done wrong at first and in future will choose his words
  • I think he will too.

re your earlier comment, I just wasn't sure what you meant ;ok
  • Glad I’ve clarified it then maybe I should think too
  • Cuz if we were capable of reasoned rational thinking at all times we wouldn't be Hammers fans.
  • I get where Cuz is coming from. I work in a Naval Base where there's a lot of old school ex-Matelots, who address each other in pretty industrial terms. It's what they've known for years and see nothing wrong with it.

But there are a lot of civvies there too, and they're not used to that kind of relationship and are more sensitive about being called things that I can't articulate on here.

In my experience the workplace has become a more sensitive place, and people seem to be very quick to be offended, and quite often on other people's behalf.
  • True thorn
  • ;ok OCS as long as no one is hurt by it and if they are it is recognised and dealt with.

  • Moyes is certainly not my choice, but why should that matter.
I will get behind him like many have said, and hope he gets results. I still am of the opinion that the players are as much at fault as Slav. However, new era, new manager, good luck David Moyes. ;scarf
  • Ocs maybe that’s where it came from being an ex sailor 81-95 lol
  • So far from my choice, but honestly my problem with losing Slaven was who would we replace him with.

Good luck DM, I wish you success.
I hope you are more Slaven than he was.
    Less Avram than Avram
Maybe a bit Allardyce mixed with Zola, dare I suggest Allerdici.
A large helping of Harry, with Bonzo sprinkles.
Lyall and Greenwood on the side.

  • The great part is that he has almost two weeks to make his mark. The team will be well prepared for Watford.

Is that supposed to be orange bibs vs yellow ones, if so, I think I can see the problem we have ;wink
  • I still don’t think there’s any great part to having Moyes here, well can’t think of any we will stay up but believed that anyway but only because there are a lot of poor teams around us

Assuming the other cooler is out of sight, it strikes me that we need to narrow the goal mouth in training.

Is David trying to improve morale by making sure that everyone gets to score... ;wink
  • Like lots of others have said did not want moyes ,but like it or not ,he is now part of our family so I wish him all the .............. ;weep ;nonono ...........sorry I just cant say it ,perhaps its to early will try again in a day or two ;biggrin
  • Nobes is older it gets to all of us these young uns even go out at night in winter in t-shirts
  • Been reading a few comments regarding Slave, both current and from his Betsitkas days, to the effect that he was great for passion and motivation but lacking as a tactician although I think we could all see that at the end.
Is Moyes a better tactician, who knows? However, he did keep Everton in the upper half for several seasons without a lot of investment.
  • And when people say he failed at Sociedad...did he really? Are they the sort of side that regularly excels in La Liga or are they normally a bottom half side? They finished 12th in the season he managed them (after taking over in November). Is that an underachievement for them? He was then sacked three months into the following season.

Not sure that’s a failure. He did well in his first season and then started badly in his second. Was only there a year.
  • Has Stuart Pearce been appointed yet? I only ask as however much we like ex players, and more recently it seems specifically left backs, to join our staff, I’d rather have someone there in merit alone. It doesn’t seem like Pearce is currently in a job, therefore is he any good? Dicks I believe managed the Women’s team. Was he any good? We need competent people not PR stunts.
  • I think Dicks was our defence coach.
  • ;hmm Trouble with players like Dicks and Pearce is there old school .The game has changed .those two would get a red card each week if they were playing today .now one of our famous bubbles would knock a striker over .
  • One thing you can't escape from is that while he was manager at Everton they did better than us most if not every season.

Not sure lukerz there 7th this year so far think with seventeen points real third with 23 eight off Barcelona poor league but after united and not blaming Moyes for that he wasn’t wanted by many clubs think he just went to try prove a point, same with Sunderland. Me not wanting him isn’t because of Man U,sociadad or Sunderland I just feel we can do a lot better than that I didn’t want Bilic as you know but still think he had have enough to keep us up this year in what is a poor bottom half of the table, the David’s say we backed him in the transfer market but with a net spend as reported by some as fifteen million is that real backing I hope Moyes does well and then moves on reputation improved and gets another club just not ours
  • I’m amazed that no one else has sussed the owners cunning plan. David Sullivan and David Gold have brought in David Moyes as manager. The next step is to change the team to a team of David’s starting with David Seaman in goal. David Beckham has also agreed to come out of retirement and we’re poaching Diddy David Hamilton from Fulham as stadium announcer. I tell you they’re davmented and they’ll stop at nothing until they have daveloped this!!!
  • But even Zaza scoring goals in that league for fun so maybe the football world
