VAR
Over the past weeks I have read many comments on here how great it was to not have VAR and being able to celebratin g goals as they go in. I mostly agree with that although I do believe that VAR does offer something. But that is a different topic.
What I was wondering is how our results this season would look like if we did have VAR. Which goals would be chalked off? Where do we profit from something the ref didn't catch?
Maybe those of you with live or tv access to the match could comment on here after the matches so we could keep a tally?

VAR kills that
Before VAR we complained about goals that were allowed or disallowed for one reason or another, penalties that should or shouldn't have been given and players who should have been sent off but weren't or were sent off when they shouldn't have been.
No matter what they do we will complain about something and nothing involving humans will be perfect. Even AI is designed by humans
I look at is as similar to recycling; initially it wasn't worthwhile given the low uptake when it was first introduced but you had to go through that period to reach a better future. I'm just hoping that VAR eventually develops into something worthwhile.
But yes, it certainly does need improvement.
It used to simply be did the ref/ linesperson see it? now it's are they intervening when they should? and are they applying the rules in a consistent fashion? So we actually have swapped one aspect of human fallibility for another. In theory this second issue should be easier to fix as we introduce time into the equation. Where as a ref has no possible review the VAR officials do, yet they are still not getting their two questions correct, once they get far more uniform intervention and far more consistent rulings we will have a system that works.
As for now I do like being able to look at the ref and if it's ok then GOAL, rather than wait for a check, but I know at some stage we will have something go against us that was a wrong call, that I won't like half as much.
Bit of karma for Manchester United after they benefitted from Maguires handball v Ipswich the other week.
They would have checked if Foden’s red should have stood but obviously didn’t see a “clear and obvious error” in the decision
What the VAR can’t do is tell the ref they’ should check a decision not to give a yellow card
TBH I'm not sure you are correct with your final statement,...I'm not looking to argue!!! But I'm pretty sure that if VAR had thought that Fernandez' kick out was serious enough for a RED card he could have been advised to check it ( BTW, I'm not saying I do believe the horrible player did deserve a red )......Anyhow, all good, whatever the rule is!!!
Foden’s retaliation also warranted a red card.
The goal took us back to ridiculous question of “was the player interfering with play?” If Fernandez wasn’t, why did he dive for the ball?why was he on the pitch? Just because a player doesn’t make contact doesn’t mean he wasn’t trying to.
I agree VAR makes sense for offsides as it should be a factual decision. The error is in the complications they have allowed to creep into the game. They should either revert to anyone is offside, or scrap the offside rule completely.
