  • What he would be worrying about would be playing, as he has shown recently, he can move to a top division side but it doesn’t mean he gets a game
  • That's why he would suit us as the competition for a starting place will be less. He is at a place in his career where he needs to play and show people what he can do. That looks like the bottom end of the Prem or top end of the Championship ( I know ). Although as buffy remarked he may be able to abroad and a club like Roma may suit him.

Part of the reason he got so little game time at Villa was that they didn't want to trigger the obligation at the price set out in the loan deal.
  • Anyone particularly enthused by rumours of the Reiss Nelson deal from Arsenal going through? I would have preferred Edvin Austbø of Viking who is a quicker player.
  • Adam Webster on a free instead of him going to Sheffield United?
  • Fortune, how did you get that "ø" letter?
  • Can someone explain to me how is it that AWB and Diouf can down tools as it were and not turn up/refuse to play when they are employed by the club.
Do contracts mean nothing? Or are there clauses in their contracts that exempt them in the event of relegation?

It's holding down alt, then typing 0248.

Basically they mean very little these days, unless it's in the favour of the player (eg they get crocked or out of form such as Cornet and Fullkrug, when they still expect to get paid).

Who says they did? I assumed the club was keeping them out of the squad while they were negotiating a transfer to avoid them getting injured

I was only using those two as an example and I take your point about potential injury, but it seems that there are other instances according to what I read in numerous comments and posts where the player has (allegedly) refused to play or demanded a transfer, or is it all just media hype?
  • I am expecting the Diouf sale to generate funds for us to end the window strongly

I still think we are going to be ok this season. I think Nuno will know who he wants and we will get players in.

A relegated side will naturally have more coming and goings than a team beginning the new season in the same division. The transfer window makes things really difficult for a side in this position as the team needs to transform itself for the new challenge at the start of the campaign, however the transfer window remains open for a good number of weeks after the start of the season. As is natural a lot of clubs and players hold fire to try and get their best possible price or move, which is not good for us.

By the end of the window and after a lot of late business, in and out, I really feel a side will come together to do what we need. Our aim at present is to not lose too many points before we hit our stride!
  • Relegated sides often take a few games to get going as they shake off the hangover & get settled
  • Has everyone else posted all the transfer speculation on another thread? =)

Luke said Areola had picked up an injury last night, although I haven't read that anywhere TBH....also JWP yet again squeezed out the squad....

I hope the next days will allow us to get rid of deadwood/players who don't want to be here/the ones NES doesn't want, and allow us to bring in another 3-4 players.....

    I can dream.....

  • We have got so many players that really should be good enough to play in the Championship but just aren't featuring; Todibo, Alvarez, Diouf to name but 3, on top of AWB and Fullkrug who have gone out on loan.

What a nightmare squad we've built in the last few years.
  • buffy, I would say if you include most of those in a starting line up we have a decent team but for whatever reason, Potter sending Alvarez to Turkey or NES alienating JCT & AWB, we won’t be able to call upon this season. 😞
  • I'm not sure why you're so certain that it's Nuno's fault that Todibo (who fell out with three managers in his time here, and was largely absolutely useless for us) and Wan-Bissaka want or wanted to leave. To me, it seems far more likely that some of our players decided they feel like they're too good to play in the Championship, despite performing as a bottom three side last season.

For sure, if all the players who are still contracted to us were available, we should have more than enough to win promotion, but AWB has already gone for the season, Fullkrug has too although he wouldn't get into my starting 11 even if he was here, and we'd surely be stronger if Alvarez and JCT were playing to their potential for us.

"For whatever reason" and then talking about personal relationships instead of the fact we were....you know, relegated

Some players dont want to play in the championship

Some/most/all would likely have it in their contract that their wages are cut if relegated, so they're potentially making 30-50% less of the salary they were on last year

If pride wasnt the reason, maybe money is

Thats why they want to leave....

    Ex = @Lukerz ?.......!!
  • Villa in talks for Todibo, according to The Athletic
  • Todibo for £25m and we break even.
  • If you guys could have a whip round and pay for my flight over ,I would be willing to drive him to Villa =)
  • I reckon steve we would rather have a whip round to give the club some money to spend on transfers. moan moan!
  • Five of our six records sales now in the last year - Fernandes, Summerville, Kudus, Diouf & Paqueta. Also, exlcuding Rice as he was from the academy, this summer has seen our three highest profits from player sales (+£43m for Fernandes, +£35m for Summerville, +£21m for Diouf)
  • Now perhaps we can move on getting one or two in
