  • A big concern for me is if Areola goes. We would then be panic buying a keeper

I can’t see him wanting to sit on the bench all year, or the club wanting his wages on the bench, can see him going on loan & Herrick the back up

Personally, if Areola does leave, I'd be surprised if we go beyond the end of the transfer window with Herrick as our no.2 keeper.
  • Joel Piroe medical complete, signing expected to be official in next 24 hours. His stats are incredible - last four seasons in the EFL Championship = 74 goals.

So, from last seasons first 11…

    Veltman replaces AWB (pending)
    Solomon replaces Summerville
    Engles replaces Fernandes
Disasi - yet to be replaced

The PL side that beat Leeds 3-0 was:

    Hermansen
    Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Disasi (?) - Diouf
    Souček - Fernandes (Engels)
Bowen - Pablo - Summerville (Solomon)
    Taty

    Squad replacements…

    Piroe (pending) replaces Wilson
Potts - not replaced yet (might be Orford)
    Traore - not replaced yet
    Todibo - not replaced yet
  • Lukerz, Where are the squad replacements for Alvarez, Fullkrug & Magassa & please don't say they didn't play in our last game as we all know why that was?
  • edited August 18
As only Fullkrug has left he is the only one to be replaced as yet and I’m sure the club has someone in mind. Even then it may not be possible to get them in.
It’s not as easy as you seem to believe.
I had to replace a tap in my downstairs toilet on Sunday but I had to get the old one out first.

Should be a similar deal to the Piroe one. AWB loan without an option but a mandatory obligation to buy. Why we helping Villa out if he has no future with us? If we are so skint we could do with the money now.

Alvarez & Füllkrug weren’t here last season, so not needed to be replaced necessarily

Magassa is still here & may not go

Exactly, if it's a loan, it has to be an 'obligation' to buy, not an option, or am I missing something???
  • AWB…..doesn’t want to play

    Get rid
  • Fell into the trap of not reading the comment I made Lukerz 😁.

The irony that this is probably better deal for the club

Finances are tracked over a 3-year rolling period, after the sales we've already made (plus Diouf) we've covered our finances off for this year, taking players off the wage bil laids that, thwn the obligation comes into effect the following FY and therefore the next year for the rolling average

Get the money now we'll waste it on a plYer who isnt good enough... isnt that the issue you had with Piroe?
  • Am I the only one sorry that AWB is off?

In his first season, he was Hammer of the Year. He was our best defender.
In his second season, we really missed him when he was at AFCON. Our own forum members in the MOTM threads ranked him second only to Bowen over the season.

I think it's not strange that he wants to continue playing at a higher level, and I think he was a model professional so don't begrudge him a move.
  • He doesn't want to be here so I don't want him here.
He was a breath of fresh air in that first season but I felt his form really dropped off last year and he became a bit of a liability.
  • I'm sorry as well ,But for what ever reason it went down hill pretty quickly after Afcon .Whether it was a falling out with Nuno or something else .He seemed unhappy long before the end of the season .So think he would have been gone even if we stayed up

    Can't say I am tbf

Saying he was 2nd for MOTM last season (which surprises me) doesn't mean too much to me as he was poor imo, his body language was poor he just didnt seem interested

Players like him should be driving the team, we (or at least I) didn't see that

Great first season, poor 2nd and the minute we were relegated knew he wouldn't be seen in our kit again

Wish him the best, thank him for his efforts no love lost but not sorry he's off
  • AWB is one of the best last man defenders I’ve seen.

He was good value at £10m and did well for us.

He doesn’t want to play for us which is a shame.

    Good luck to him.

I agree and I didn’t really see the same drop off last season that others did - but wouldn’t be the first time pretty much everyone else thought someone was rubbish and I didn’t!
  • Assuming AWB now leaves, we certainly need another RB/CB.
  • Our squad is threadbare and lacks strength in depth in almost every position. Against Burnley, we had no game changers on the bench. It is likely to be the same for the next game. JWP came off the bench and was a huge disappointment. There were mostly novices for the midfield and forward positions and Nuno didn't have confidence in them. He chose to bring on JWP, who doesn't fit Nuno's tactics, instead of Ajala or Landers. Need reinforcements fast as we don't want to chasing shadows.
  • AWB was fairly decent for us - considering we signed him for £15m when he was 26. Was never HOTY IMO, but was certainly decent over his two years. Ultimately, not much we can do now he doesn’t want to be here.

Believe me when I say there is a going to be a flurry of business in these final two weeks. Likely as many players in as players going.
  • Can we come back to you on that Lukerz? How many do you think will come in as a matter of interest?

After Piroe, I am predicting 4 in

You’ll be surprised how many deals become possible in the final 10 days of the window, that aren’t possible now

Piroe, btw, is a guaranteed goal machine at this level, I know many are underwhelmed, but he will fire us to the top of the table, he won’t do much outside the box or in the game, but will score loads for us with Bowen & Solomon either side - Nuno is basically getting a trump card for promotion for free for a year (we’ll deal with next season when it happens) - it’s an incredible piece of business for a loan

Let’s say, when we remove the players close to going after today’s news & add Piroe, when everybody is fit…

    Hermansen
    Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Kilman - Scarles
    Bowen - Engels - Souček - Solomon
    Taty - Piroe

Areola, Veltman, Diouf, Kanté, Magassa, JWP, Orford, Lamadrid, Pablo

Is that really that bad? I’d say add a CB, CM & AM/WG to the bench & we’re in a good place - I expect us to fill those positions

But I could also see many of those listed above also going before September, which will change the picture significantly

Well tbf nobody that left or is close to leaving was involved in that game, and also since that game we've signed Engels, who jumps immediately into our first XI, and are close to signing Piroe, who I assume goes into the first XI in place of Pablo

As Lukerz says, Piroe is a menace in this league, he's a 20 goal and season striker and Engels is the guy we're tasking to replace Fernandes, hes our big money midfield signing

Those 2 signings alone make us, imo, significantly stronger
