  • I do think people underestimate how much of a feat it would be to keep the core of the 11 together - Hermansen, Mavro, Souček, Bowen, Taty. I know the window hasn’t closed yet, but if it does & they are still here it’s a great window.

Good luck to him - remind me a lot of when we sold Cullen to Anderlecht. Would I want us to sign Cullen this window? No.

All the best to him. He’ll play weekly there. I assume we have something planned with the £10m.

Of course, there is also a view that Freddie wanted to go to a Champions League club, that will compete for trophies. It’s not just ‘surely we should’ve kept him?’

Funny you mention, Cullen as he was the reason I DIDN'T want Potts to go

Cullen was the player of the season and Burnley player of the year the 22/23 season where Burnley won the league with 101 points

Either way, think £10mil is fair vlaue for him and wish him the best

Athletic report we are in talks with Spurs over permanent signing of Solomon. Broke 15 minutes ago.

    Solomon
    Engels
    Adingra

Then a CB & ST - would be a reasonable window.

Problem is there are far too many woke lefties in our world that really haven’t a clue on what they comment on, they just do it because IMO they are useless idiots 👍🏻

But the right wingers do. Ok.
  • Having watched "Welcome to Wrexham", yes I know, it just reinforced my belief that you need strength in depth and game changers off the bench to compete at the top kf the Championship which we don't have atm imho.

What game changers did they have (or who were they lacking that other clubs had)?
  • They had players who would normally be starters on their bench especially when rotating over the Christmas period December 26 - January 4.

The fact that we have Jarrod Bowen automatically gives us an edge. He will win games in the Championship single-handedly. There will be games next season where we win 2-0 & Bowen gets both goals. He is a cheat code & it’s incredible we are going to have a guy of his quality playing in the Championship.

The back four is fine & many other top end Championship clubs would happily take our current first choice back five: Hermansen - Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Kilman - Diouf. I would agree there is not much beyond that, so we need some depth in those areas. It’s not good enough for the PL, but is good enough for top 8 of the Championship.

The midfield/creative area is the biggest concern. JWP, Souček (when fit) & Magassa should be decent CM options at this level. I like Kanté, but it remains to be seen how much of a talent he is. The issue we have is the area between the midfield & attack is weak (Bowen aside). Lacking a LW (or any wide options in general) & we don’t have that number 10 player who links attack & midfield (this was also an issue last season). Our plan last year was get the ball to Summerville or Bowen - now we can’t take one of those options & Pablo is not technical enough to link the play to Taty, who is a very ‘busy’ & aggressive striker but misses a load of chances on a gamely basis.

So, we urgently need a winger & an AM player. After that, it’s about keeping the squad & supplementing areas where we lack depth.

    Bit of a oversimplification

Just quickly checked whoscored for Coventry (1st) and Ipswich (2nd) and they both had 17 players with > 1000 minutes in the league (which equates to just under 25% of all available minutes) so both used a fairly small core squad, especially Coventry

I'd rather base our squad on the ones who got promoted not Wrexham

Hermanse, KWP, Dinos, Kilman, Scarles, Diouf, Soucek, Magassa, Kante, Bowen, Earthy, Lamadrid, Pablo, Taty is our core 14 atm (purposefully removed AWB as I cant see him staying) and looks like we're after 4 or 5 players so lands us in a nice spot

Then I'm sure the rest of the minutes required is shared with players like Mayers, Orford, Golambeckis etc. If its required
  • @Lukerz, Good enough for top 8 possibly but we want to finish in the top 2 don't we?

The fact that Kante, Earthy and Lamadrid are counted among our core 14 players says it all for me in terms of how thin the squad is. There's no pace in that group of players, no creativity, no decent backup anywhere.

IMO we need to add quite a few more to be challenging for the automatic places.
  • If we’re pointless come the end of August watch the influx then 😉

Agreed, hence why I said 4-5 new signings which is what we're after we'd be in a good position

Not sure why having those 3 is a concern for squad depth. Kante is clearly rated ahead of Potts given who Nuno calls upon first, the Potts many of us believe could do well (again) in the championship. Earthy has been voted player of the season for a decent championship club, not sure why he isnt considered a decent bench option. Lamadrid I'll give you, but the club have seen something or they wouldn't have triggered his buy clause.

I think we are all assuming we will sign 3-5 players before September - if we don’t we certainly won’t have the depth needed. My belief is the club will wait until the last 2 weeks to try & sign the highest calibre player available, as more & more players become open to last minute moves.

But of the players we have that we will add those 3-5 players to, it’s certainly a lot better than I was expecting.

    Hermansen
    Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Kilman - Diouf
    Souček - Magassa
    Bowen - Pablo - Lamadrid
    Taty

Areola, CB, RB, Scarles, Kanté, JWP, Cornet, AM/WG, ST

This assumes AWB, Todibo, Álvarez & Füllkrug all leave.
  • Kanté played all pre-season & was the go to sub last season when we made CM changes, often ahead of Potts & Magassa. He is clearly rated higher than the rest of our CM options.
  • I have no doubt that significant signings will be arriving. I recall the report that the plan for a quick return was sold to Bowen, after which he agreed to stay. I can't imagine that plan was sell two of the big three, keep everyone else, sign no one and hope for the best.

  • Northern Echo says Adringa possible but Sunderland aren’t interested in letting Isidor go

I've personally seen nothing from Kante to think he's got anything to offer, regardless of how many times Nuno put him on. Even less of Lamadrid. Earthy got Young Player of the Season for Bristol City the season before last, but last season didn't seem like he could get much of a look in.

Take those three IMO very questionable players out and the core is down to 11. Kilman is suddenly seen as central despite how awful he was last year. Cornet is being viewed as a potential starter or main attacking sub because we have nobody else, which is pretty telling about the squad.

Personally feel there's plenty to be worried about at this point in terms of squad depth and quality, and a complete lack of pace and creativity. Let's hope we do start adding some players soon, because I wouldn't back the group of players we have to finish in the top two after 46 games.
  • Maybe JWP will make his mark for us.

Experienced, and from what I have heard, is good at set pieces.

At the moment our depth of squad is shocking IMO.

Some on here feel the quality of the Championship is lacking, but IMO our squad is lacking, if we don't do enough before close of the transfer window, I really feel this season is going to be a big let down.

Just gotta hope there's plenty going on behind scenes ( apart from the bizarre power struggles of ownership ) and a few reinforcements will be incoming very soon...

Glad I'm not the only one who hasn't really seen anything in Kante yet.

  • Dipping in for a catch up this morning.
Has the Positive Arms closed down?🤷🏻‍♂️
  • Yes Slacker it has. It's under refurbishment until something positive happens on the transfer front or someone takes proper control of the club. I am sure that it will be open before that as some feel there is nothing to worry about.

Thought he was the best player on the park when we beat Brentford in the FA Cup
  • I am surprised we have failed yet to recruit.

We must have money in the bank, and surely we have players lined up
  • The money we have raised goes towards the huge multi-million pound void following relegation, not to mention the wages to revenue limit.
  • We are suffering now because of the summer business done in 2024.
  • According to capology.com we have the highest wage bill in the Championship (£1.48m pw), Southampton are 4th and their wage bill is half ours (£0,74m pw)

Don't know how accurate it is

Good to know, I’m sure it’ll be as banged out as ever before soon.
