  • Kretinsky has made clear the club's resolve to keep their top talent amid mounting speculation linking Manchester United with moves for Mateus Fernandes and Jarrod Bowen. United have been mentioned as suitors for both players as the summer transfer window draws closer.

Consequently, United have emerged as a potential landing spot for both players should West Ham find themselves compelled to sell their star pair.

Nevertheless, Kretinsky has left no doubt that West Ham have absolutely no intention of allowing their key players to walk out the door this summer.
We have a very credible strategy,” Kretinsky said in an interview with The Times. “We don’t need to sell the players for financial reasons.

“We are doing this to make sure we are promoted back to the Premier League immediately. That is our only goal.
  • It's a funny old life, I felt dejected upon relegation and whilst I am not mistaking the task ahead next season I probably feel as positive about the club as I have in a long while.

On the player front if we got to keep Bowen but had to sell the other two big guns I could live with that. I personally would give Coufal a knock and ask if he would like to return.
  • Daily Mail are running a story based on an article in Spears magazine (posh bimonthly for the ultra wealthy)

"Amanda Staveley, the financier who orchestrated takeovers of Manchester City and Newcastle United, did not deny that she could be involved in a bid for West Ham United when asked directly by Spear’s."

"Staveley told Spear’s: ‘We’ve looked at a lot of clubs, including Tottenham, but we are looking at clubs around the Premier League and the UK, Europe. […] We really want to be buying, going in and investing into a club again very soon.’

However, Staveley had not previously confirmed her interest in West Ham.

When asked by Spear’s whether she was considering a swoop for the East London club, which was relegated this season and has been gripped by a broader crisis, Staveley smiled broadly and said: ‘Maybe. You don’t know.’

    https://spearswms.com/wealth/is-football-financier-amanda-staveley-preparing-a-bid-for-west-ham/

    All rather vague and speculative
  • I doubt we would be available as it feels like Kretinsky has finally got what he has waited patiently for, control of the club. I guess a huge offer may tempt him to sell or they could buy Sullivans and Golds shares together, but Gold seems to be in with Kretinsky at present. He certainly doesn't need the money.
  • Cris Italia at Green Street Hammers claims that an inside source told him "Staveley would only be interested in coming into West Ham if she had an equal stake along with Daniel Kretínský"

"What Mr. Křetínský doesn’t want is a bidding war to begin for [Sullivan’s] shares,” the source said. “He welcomed the idea of having Staveley as a partner in the club and on the board, but the eagerness to have equal equity has caused him to pause"

This has also put a pause on signing Steve Nickson as Sporting Director. Word is he had a good working relationship with Staveley at Newcastle and is keen to work with her again

Article on Brady from last weeks' Private Eye, not available online so I did a bit of scanning, cutting and pasting

    THE BRADY HUNCH

Karren Brady resigned as vice-chair at West Ham United in April, it was said, to focus on other interests and her work in the House of Lords. It was impeccable timing, coming just before the club was relegated from the Premier League and its co-owner, former pornographer David "Slug" Sullivan, stepped down ahead of a Times and a Panorama investigation into serious allegations of sexually exploitative behaviour towards women (see Eye 1677).

Baroness Brady knew Sullivan had been banned by the Football Association from contact with the West Ham women's and youth teams due to safeguarding concerns three years ago, but - via her lawyers at Carter-Ruck - she stated that she had relied on the principle of a "presumption of innocence" in continuing to work at the club and had "no knowledge" of the Times and Panorama allegations. Sullivan denies all wrongdoing.

Brady may have had no knowledge of those specific cases, but there can be little doubt that the woman who worked closely with Sullivan at his Sport Newspapers and football clubs for more than 30 years (Sullivan appointed her managing director at Birmingham City in 1993, when Brady was 23) was aware of other allegations.

Former Birmingham Mail editor Steve Dyson recalls Brady acting as middle-woman when he of wanted to put allegations of sexual misconduct to Sullivan when he was co-owner of Birmingham City in 2008. The woman involved later dropped the case.

In the House of Lords, Tory peer Brady has argued to dilute the football governance bill. She told the Boardroom podcast, co-presented by Jack Sullivan (son of David), that the proposed football regulator was "a solution in search of a problem".

In December 2024, Brady spoke in favour of an amendment to the bill's revised ownership suitability test. The bill stated that when the regulator checks a person's fitness to own or direct a club, they should consider if they've been party to any civil proceedings. The amendment supported by Brady was to add "relevant" to the clause. Brady told the Lords that the wording as it stood was "strikingly broad" and "would allow any civil proceedings, regardless of their nature or relevance, to count against someone in an ownership determination".

Brady also addressed the proposal that the regulator would be able to apply the test retrospectively to owners directors who were already in situ.claimed that this could affect foreign investment in clubs.

Brady has a habit of failing to spot a wrong 'un. She served as non-executive chair of Philip Green's retail holding company, Taveta Investments, before resigning when allegations of sexual harassment and racial abuse emerged against Green. She had previously described him as the "most dynamic and energetic" businessperson she had ever encountered.

After relegation, West Ham fans are now pinning their hopes on Royal Mail owner Daniel Kretinsky, the Czech billionaire who last week became the club's majority shareholder after buying shares from Vanessa Gold, daughter the late David Gold, Sullivan's long-term business partner. Brady, famous as a sidekick on The Apprentice, oversaw a loss of more than £ I 00m in West Ham's last set of accounts.

How does life look for Brady after West Ham? Her financial future seems secure. Her company, BKB Media Ltd, described at Companies House as a media representation service, holds £6.3m in cash and has generated more than £9m in profits

    Not good
  • Her media company is doing very well. That's a lot of money for laughing sycophantly at Alan Sugars jokes whilst pulling faces at the contestants.
  • candbsky, I think Alan Sugar will be laughing the most now.

Alan Sugar hasn’t laughed since he wiped 90% off Amstrad’s share price by thinking that landline phones with email and a video screen were the future

    From C&H

London property investors David and Simon Reuben are part of a consortium that is one of several parties interested in buying Sullivan's shares. They currently own 15% of Newcastle

Also that Kretinsky still hasn't bought the shares from the Gold family that would increase his stake to 43%

    https://www.claretandhugh.info/potential-buyers-circle-sullivans-west-ham-shares-as-ifr-looms-large/
  • Reported that Amanda Staveley is looking to buy a percentage (possibly all) of the Gold family shares (Sky News).
  • Sky News:

Amanda Staveley and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi's PCP Capital Partners have made an offer to buy a 25.1 per cent stake in West Ham.

Sky News' Mark Kleinman broke the news on Thursday that the couple were preparing a bid for a share that belongs to the family of the late David Gold. That offer has now gone in.

Sky News also reported that the club's current investors have first refusal on whether they would like to match the offer.
  • Don't the existing shareholders have first options on any shares that are for sale?
  • The Times reporting Staveley has agreed deal from 25% of club
  • That means Sullivan is still the major shareholder.
  • This could be massively unsettling as my understanding was that Kretinsky and Gold had between them assumed control from Sullivan on account of their joint shareholding being larger than his own, and on the back of this it was Kretinsky who had sold the plan for promotion to Bowen etc. I guess it remains to be seen who she will side with from Sullivan and Kretinsky, but both she and Kretinsky will look to have control.
  • Kretinsky had the chance to buy her shares &, for whatever reason, didn’t. He still has the chance to buy her shares due to the pre-emption rights. If he doesn’t, you have to ask what does he actually want?
  • I doubt Gold had much say in the running of the club but assume Stavely will want to. No reports on why the Kretinsky deal didn’t go through and whether he will be happy to team up with Staveley or maybe look to pull out altogether.
Let’s hope we don’t end up with a power struggle and have to rely on Sullivan to have too big a say in things.

Sounds as though DK isn't thrilled by this potential development. From the BBC article linked above:

"The agreement we had reached with the Gold family in June provided stability for the club at a crucial time. Today's announcement does the opposite.

We will always act in the best interests of West Ham United and are reviewing all of our options, including exercising our pre-emption rights in full."
  • From an update to the BBC article, it’s already apparent that Kretinsky is not happy about the deal and he and his partners are considering their options one of which is preempting the sale and buying the shares.
Looks like this could drag on for some time and who knows what affect it has on any plans for comings and goings on the playing side as there will be uncertainty.
Bowen went to Prague and discussed Kretinsky’s plans for the future which was instrumental in his decision to stay. Wonder if he’s beginning to regret his decision.
  • Turning into a bit of a mess ,Which we don't need at this time
  • What happens if Sullivan decides to bid for Gold’s shares. Could it get any worse.
  • There's always worse around the corner =)
  • thorn, Can't see any sense in him doing that apart from really antagonising the fanbase as he may well in the near future be banned from operating in football?
  • What happens if Sullivan decides to bid for Gold’s shares. Could it get any worse.

Really can't see that happening, I think Sullivan is just trying to keep as low a profile as possible after the exposé on him.
  • As long as this in no way impacts our ability to make signings before the deadline.

It does sadly seem so...One minute we hear Kretinsky is buying the shares and now something else.....

Let's hope it all gets sorted and the club can move on....
  • Be interesting to know why Kretinsky and Gold couldn’t reach agreement.
