  • @;Lukerz, That team still has Kilman and Soucek in it.

Aside from the fact Soucek is injured at the moment, both of them would be among the best players in the league in their positions.
  • Souček will be one of our best players when back fit & I can see Nuno playing him off of the striker for his goal threat.
  • Reports our bid for Celtic’s 22yo Belgian CM Arne Engels has been rejected as being well short of their valuation

Forest had a £25m bid turned down in February

Looks as if this deal might already be heading down the "We tried" category but that's the West Ham Way as it doesn't remotely meet Celtic's valuation of the player!
  • Can't they take one of our flops ,I mean great player in exchange =)
  • @steve, It might be an idea to make a more realistic bid but what do I know I have been told many times in the past that isn't the way clubs do transfers. =)
  • Arne Engals sounds like a proper football legends name, the sort you'd find in an orange shirt running around with Cruyff and Neeskens circa 1974, I like him already.

Potts off to Club Brugge it seems (€12m)
  • That's a shame, I thought he started last season showing a lot of promise.
  • If true, we will need to start signing a few. I expect to see at least another 4 or 5 leave

That's sad. A home grown player with family ties to WHU. He had a good EPL debut last year but then his performances fell-off, and wasn't much used by Nuno in the second-half of the season . Two seasons ago Potts was Portsmouth's player of the season in championship, and the type of player we need for the battle for promotion. Maybe Nuno has spotted something and wants to remodel his midfield.
  • Now that doesnt make sense

Its not that I think hes worth more, but you have a HG player who's already had a really good season in the championship in a position we aren't particularly strong

We were after Onyedika before, the guy Potts is replacing so if we got Onyedika and let Potts go the other way it would make more sense

    But this does puzzle me

We get promoted and he hasnt established himself then all for it, but the timing feels wrong

'He was good a season ago' is like saying Phillips was good a season or so ago when we loaned him, and it didn't work out.

I think Magassa is more of a prospect in that role. Let's hope he trains on.
  • Agree with Herb

Magassa, Souček, JWP, Kanté (plus any new signing) - all likely better options than Potts
  • Our "Championship" winning squad gets weaker by the day and still no players incoming!
I still believe that some of those who appear to be staying are not good enough starters.
  • Wonder if that £10m for Potts gets us Engels
  • I notice all our players become better as soon as we accept an offer for them
  • @Lukerz, Losing Kilman without a replacement coming in would make him appear a better player as it's one less in the squad to be called upon if needed in what is going to be a long hard season.

    Hermansen
    Walker-Peters - Mavropanos - Disasi - Diouf
    Souček - Fernandes
    Bowen - Pablo - Summerville
    Taty

    Bench:
Areola, Kilman, AWB, Scarles, Kanté, Magassa, Potts, Lamadrid, Wilson

So this is the squad that beat Leeds 3-0 in May. Players in bold have left.

I don’t think that’s bad for a relegated club in August. If we simply replace those four I think we will be in a good place. This is why I am pretty calm about our window. Yes, a lot could change - others could leave & nobody signs - but we are in decent shape right now.

If we got £150m for Fernandes and Summerville I don't think an extra £10m is going to make much difference
  • Depends where the £150m went & what holes it plugged

On the bench for today's friendly.

Ex isn’t convinced he’s actually there - said word was he left camp this morning but has just been named in squad regardless
  • That is a strange one for me. Potts looked like an asset at Championship level. I could have understood cashing in if getting promoted as he may have limitations at premier level. I am hoping it indicates good level signings incoming.
  • I don’t think Potts is cut out for the way Nuno plays. He isn’t mobile enough to cover space, and he’s very much a ball retention type midfielder and Nuno doesn’t seem to want that. It’s a shame, but I don’t think he fits.

This is one we should have been able to get over the line IF we really did wanted him which we were rumoured to.
  • I’ve literally not seen a single rumour about us wanting him

He's just gone on loan to League 1 Leicester. He's done little since leaving Sunderland.
