  • Fortune,,Hold on might take some time to add them all up =)
  • Two weeks to go until we play our first proper match so I am going to ask how many players have we signed so far?

    1 signed, 2 sold

    GK: Hermansen / Areola
    RB: AWB / KWP
    LB: Diouf / Scarles
CB: Dinos / Kilman / Tobido / Mayers (Golambeckis / Casey)
CM: Soucek / JWP / Kante / Magassa / Potts (Orford / Earthy)
AM: Bowen / Cornet / Lamadrid
    CF: Taty / Felipe (Marshall)

At present, other than at the wing we're well set for automatic promotion imo

Think spending loads of money this summer would be a bit pointless given the talent we can attract this year compared to next

None, Nil, Zilch and Zip =)
  • I would expect a centre back and a forward to come in.
  • 1 signed, 2 sold

I've obviously not been paying attention, who have we signed?

  • Lamadrid move made permanent and Jett Murphy from Chelmsford
  • Fabiański Retired to add to the outs

    What Ravel said

  • WHU, Why do you think it is pointless to spend money this summer?

IMHO Several of the players you mentioned are likely, IF you believe all the rumours, to be leaving or are not in NES plans so that will leave us short of a squad with relevant strength in depth to be competitive in the Championship. As I said that is just my opinion.

As of right now they haven't left

We've secured the future of Bowen and Soucek, reports suggest that we're trying to do the same for Mavropanos and Taty, Hermansen isnt going anywhere neither is KWP, Scarles or Felipe

Hermansen- Dinos - Soucek- Bowen - Taty core is very strong for the league

    Hermansen
    KWP - Dinos - Kilman - Scarles
    Bowen - Kante - Soucek - Cornet
    Taty - Felipe

That team wins the championship, thats where I'm at. I also have faith in our youth to at least act as depth. Potts and Earthy have already had successful stints in the championship, Mayers and Golambeckis look promising. Jurys out on whether Marshall or Casey can make an impact but they're still here.

Feel the forgotten guys like Ward-Prowse, Cornet, Kilman etc. Are all good enough for the championship, regardless of how poor their individual West Ham careers have been

Not saying sign nobody, but think overspending doesnt really make sense as its more likely they wont be Prem ability and we'll be in a mess again

The guys we've been linked with, none of them are exactly going to push us on

Harwood-Beillis is the right kind of move, same for Engels at Celtic but feels like they are still low-prem level players
  • You could say the same about our entire squad. We were in or around the bottom three for almost the entire season
  • You could say the same about our entire squad. We were in or around the bottom three for almost the entire season

Which is kinda the point no?

Spend millions now to get players that are good for the championship but cant cut the prem, which we kinda already have, then we get promoted and have to shift those thay aren't good enough which as we have found isn't easy to do
  • Surely WHU we can kill two birds with one stone by buying some players who are good enough for the Premier League now and then we are better set up hopefully for the season after this?

Sorry but some of the squad members we currently have won't be good enough after promotion as was proved last year.

Maybe, but all the names I've heard we are linked with scream short term

This team I listed above is superior to the Ipswich team that got promoted last year and Southampton who should've
  • I think the aim should be buy players that we are confident we can bring on this season, as they do their job in the Championship. This Cardiff centre back Lawlor seems idea for that if we can't persuade Disasi to return, young, bags of potential but probably not quite top level yet, lets get him around Bowen Sucek and Ward Prowse, all good professionals, and shape him.
  • I think a lot of our players are good enough to get promoted but a lot of people think they should have been hot enough to not get relegated too. I think part of the benefit of going down is the chance for a reset and we should take that. Those who didn’t prove themselves in the premier league will be easier to shift now then in a year’s time when we will have to do a lot of business - if we manage to go up.

And I’m personally quite nervous about the idea our squad is good enough to go up straight away. West Ham never fail to disappoint
  • I am not sure our squad is good enough but I do believe Nuno & Bowen alone offer us a sort of cheat code.
  • Couldn't see an option to reject cookies so I didn't read.
  • I think it's pretty undeniable that the squad is too thin for a whole Championship season. We have 3 centre backs, one of which is rumoured to have said he won't play for us again, two of our six centre midfielders were surplus to requirements last year, we have three wingers but one of them is untested and another has been injured and out on loan for the past two years, and at least 1 of our three strikers is likely to be off.

IMO we need at least one centre back, probably two, at least one creative central midfielder or #10, two wingers and a striker.
  • @alderz, And still the wait goes on!

The wait will go on whilst we have Todibo, AWB, Füllkrug, Areola, Álvarez, Cornet sitting here on the books.

We have been relegated - we are operating in a much restricted market, with financial holes, & a bloated squad in terms of wages. The signing of the summer - which will trump any Championship club - was convincing Bowen to stay.

I predict we pick up a few decent signings in the last 3 weeks of the window.
  • I'd be watching the preseason games for Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea specifically they all have big squads and lots of promising youngsters that we can utilise

I dont care about the whole " develop some else's youngsters" point if they're further along our development.

Both City and Chelsea especially have consistently shown they're not too precious over selling their youth (Bobb, Delap, Harwood-Beillis, George, Hunphries) so any loan could go with an option to buy
  • Year one parachute payment is expected to be nearly £50m which is a significant advantage over the rest of the Championship. If they spend a second and third season in the Championship, they'll get 45% of that central revenue for year two. Year two payments are around £40m.

Plus money from the sales of Fernandes & Summerville will have helped increase our transfer budget?

It's a shame as Todibo is better than Kilman, AWB than KWP & Alvarez would boss our midfield.

The issue with loaning players from the top clubs is they usually know they are only here for a year (as do we), they often have limited game experience (yet are now going to be involved in 3 games a week) & they will make mistakes (decisions, execution) which we can’t afford too many times if we want to get the points needed to get promoted. I think we need to look at proven Champ performers that are not good enough for the PL but do produce in the Champ. Even then, there will be lower half/newly promoted PL clubs who are also looking at the same profile of player.

    Players like:
    GK Cooper (Sheff Utd)
    CM Hackney (already gone Everton)
    CB Harwood-Bellis (Southampton)
    AM Hamer (Sheff Utd)
CM Jordan James (Leicester last season)
    AM Azaz (Boro)
    AM Azeez (Millwall)
    ST Vipotnik (Swansea)

Then there may be players you could pinch from Wolves or Burnley (possibly).

Then you may be able to grab a couple of PL players on loan at the end of the window. Then if you manage to keep a few - like Mavropanos (added to Souček & Bowen) - you give yourself a decent squad equipped for the Championship.

Reports that Taty has informed the club he would like to leave this window. These reports originate from Spain, where he is being linked with Real Betis & Sevilla.
  • Not a fan of the idea of a loan deal because the interested club can't pay what we want to make the transfer permanent which appears to be the case with the reported interest in Alvarez & Taty.
  • Taty would be a blow to lose but I would be very surprised if he is still here in September.
  • IF he goes I really hope we don't agree to a deal which isn't in our favour, not a loan unless we get him back in a years time or less than what we paid for him.
