I read a bit of the BBC article this morning and I noticed that in the context of that 16 thing, and similar, some of the younger women were accompanied by various parents to these interviews.

Accompanied to the venue, they were split up for the actual interview apparently.
In the case of 1 ( or was it 2) of the reported cases. Can't quite remember.

I'm.just highlighting that not everyone thought it was a sleazy way to make a living.

For me the sleazy aspect of this story is Sullivan absolutely expecting sexual favours for the promise of work.
Not the manner of the work.
  • I don't think it is a sleazy way to make a living if that's what you want to, and are prepared to do, but to be told that if you don't make me happy then you can't have a job

    is the sleazy part

Asking for sexual favours to be one of the ‘regular girls’.

    Abuse of power right there.

Replying to expat. ( Went a bit wonky with the quoting 😆)
Which I think differs from all those who use 'sleazy' for his business, and not linked to these allegations.

Perhaps Karen Brady resigned because of all this ?

If it was discussed with her, perhaps she wanted nothing more to do with him...

I know his background wasn't in the most honourable kinds of money making that we've all know about, but these new allegations are on a totally different level.....

Some if not all of these allegations aren't new, but they're newly out in the public domain; I think most of us can remember that Sullivan was reported as having been interviewed by the police in 2023 but very few details came out (I believe even then it was suggested it was about historic incidents). However, I suspect Sullivan and Brady knew something of the nature of the current exposé that was in the offing, and the timing of her departure certainly strikes me as a rat leaving a sinking ship.

The bit that got me that potentially points to his character is the quote attributed to him along the lines of “ what’s the point of owning a sweet shop if you can’t eat a few sweets”

In the context of those story, this is the ickiest quote I can think of and almost make me want to hurl

I know people are demanding questions of the club & rightly so, but I am not sure we can say ‘cover up’ at this stage. He was investigated by police in 2008, before buying the club, over reports linked to non-consensual touching. No further action was taken & he has also been investigated in 2021, 2023 & 2025. Maybe questions need to be more focused on the police processes for dealing with abuse offences.

The banning from women & youth teams coincides with the recent police investigations since 2023 into his conduct & historical cases, which I’d imagine is a usual safeguarding measure to put in place whilst the investigation is ongoing, given the relevance it has to those groups.

I actually had no memory of previous allegations made against him, in fact you ask me what I had for supper 3 nights ago I couldn’t tell you…🥺
  • Brady has connections with BBC and News International, I wonder if she got a tip off that it was about to go pear-shaped and jumped before she was pushed along with Sullivan
  • The news about him being banned from direct contact with the women and youth teams is new, the reason he was banned needs to come out soon and it will.
  • He was banned in 2023 from any contact with the women and youth team and given that’s when he was being investigated over the same allegations covered in the Panorama program it’s obvious the reason he was banned.
The FA discussed them with the club and the safeguarding rules were then used.
I’ve not seen anything anywhere which suggests that there were any allegations involving any female or young people at the club.
We were the first club to get an accolade for its safeguarding procedures.
  • Getting the accolade doesn’t mean nothing happened. The accolade was for getting good process in place.
  • When I heard this yesterday,
"Sullivan was banned in 2023 from any contact with the women and youth team",

    It triggered this memory,

"Trump deliberately walked in on two young Miss USA 2001 contestants while they were naked and getting dressed for a rehearsal"

And then there is this Sullivan quote,
"I've always said, what's the point of owning a sweet shop if you can't eat a few sweets"

Some powerful people indulge in immoral or unethical behavior simply because they believe that their power allows them to do what they wish,
Most people are repulsed by the very thought of what they do,
Most people, quite rightly in my view, class it as blatant sleaze.

  • I really don’t care what happens to Sullivan now, I want him gone from our club and proper owners put in place who will take the club forward.
  • Time to sell up Sullivan, get out, move along.
  • I do think his days are numbered.

Owners are whoever has the money to buy the club and from past experience our owners haven't been "proper"

Agree, but part of the criteria for what is required in “Owners” is fit and proper.

  • The Cearns and Warners were “fit and proper” but underinvested in the club, ignored managers when the said we needed to spend on players, got us relegated, etc

Ditto Terence Brown, the Icelandics, Sullivan & Gold (in 2010)

I’m sure Todd Boehly is “fit and proper” but he’s made Chelsea a basket case
  • There is fit and proper and a good judge, I think that's Boehly's issue. He thinks his judgment is great but may not know football as well as he thinks he does. Sullivan also falls into that category in my view. His not been a great judge of a manager and that has cost us.

The test set out in the football regs is primarily about financial and business stuff. (Such as fraud, illicit sources of finance etc.) There's a bit about criminal convictions. It's basically a list of things that would disqualify people, and is quite tightly worded. Not much scope for disqualifying people whose behaviour we don't like.

You can read the full list of what would disbar an owner/director in Section F of the PL handbook.

When the IFR gets going, they'll take responsibility for the fit and proper text across all leagues.
  • I didn't know this:

WSL (and thus WHU women's team) is outside the jurisdiction of the FA.
Sullivan has never been a director of WHUWFC.

Fortune probably did, because he's very keen on following WHUFC and frequently posts disappointed comments here when a player leaves or is sold.
  • MrsG, That was nice of him it's a great shame he didn't, via Baroness Brady, make greater efforts to try to retain our better players to build a competitive squad instead of letting them leave on a regular basis, the latest being Shekiera Martinez who has gone to our "friends" in the white half of North London.

Is it outside the FA jurisdiction? The FA handed over the running to WSL a few years back but they still have a say in it as they have ratified the increase in size of the WSL,
  • This was what I based my comment on -

"West Ham finished 10th in this season’s WSL, a division run independently by WSL Football since 2024 after leaving the FA, which had organised the division since 2011."

  • My understanding is that the FA set up WSL and ran the competition. They handed over the running to WSL but FA laws and processes still apply. 👍
