  • Would think Nuno got some answers over plans to bounce back otherwise he would have been gone
  • If Taty, Soucek and Bowen stayed, that would be amazing business
  • if we could get rid of Kilman that would be even more amazing
  • I’d be surprised if Kilman goes anywhere. Disasi’s gone for certain, Todibo won’t play again for Nuno apparently, and Mavropanos probably wants to go, so I don’t mind keeping Kilman. He’ll probably be better in the Championship.

......so I don’t mind keeping Kilman. He’ll probably be better in the Championship.

He couldn't be much worse than the last year or more in the Premier League, which means no-one his going to offer him a contract good enough to tempt him away.

Basically, we're stuck with him whether we like it or not.

  • Surely Kilman can handle the championship.

I think the rest of the CBs are gone, though I think I’d be a bit resentful towards Mavropanos if he’s suddenly pushing after half a dozen good games when he’s been mostly awful for us. (Todibo hasn’t really worked out and Disasi will be sought after). We’d need a couple of CBs and could probably use Mayers, who has looked comfortable in the PL.

I think Diouf would do well in the championship and it might be a good place for him to develop but I wouldn’t be that fussed if he was sold. I think Scarles is a better defender.

Magassa and Potts had some bad games but they also had some really good games and I think they played a role in stabilising us for a while until Nuno found the right partnership in Fernandes and Soucek. If we can keep Soucek, then I think that’s a decent three midfielders for the championship.

KWP I expect to stay but he’s nothing more than solid IMO so we need someone else if AWB is going, which I think is likely.

I’d like to see Nuno bring in some of the young players as he did during the season and hopefully pick out some genuine talents from Portugal like he did at Wolves. A creative player and a couple of good fullbacks could make a real difference.

We’ll need a keeper as I can’t see Areola staying.
  • I would like to see us keep some identity and that comes with Bowen and Soucek in my view.

Another thing for me is that Mavropanos should stay for his own benefit. We need to be clear in that the guy was pretty poor with a great attitude until Nuno came, he is now playing his best football of his career, full of confidence and that may not be the case if he leaves. I was so chuffed he got HOTY.

A huge part of his improvement was when playing alongside Disasi though, which obviously won't be the case next season.

  • Mavropanos is a perfect player to sell, he’s not good enough & only improved when Disasi came in, but he still wasn’t faultless. £30m for him is a result.
  • I agree with that Buffy, the more i reflect on Disasi the more impressed I am. Mavro became hammer of the year, we began to defend set pieces with ease and even keep clean sheets. He will be a great piece of business for someone this summer, I wish it was us.

  • C&H quote a "source" on Kilman

“He’s likely to go out on loan, the manager doesn’t want him and the player himself doesn’t want to stick around and play second fiddle.”

    https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-source-confirms-40m-kilman-has-no-future-at-club/
  • I’ve always argued a good club sells key assets at the prime point in their time at the club.

West Ham get a little stuck in trying to improve the squad but also trying to transmit an image of a big club; “we’re not a selling club”. What we have always needed to do is sell 1/2 big money assets, at the right time. It raises funds & shows players around the world that if you come to West Ham for a year or two, you get a big move - bringing us success whilst they are here & profit when they leave, plus they give everything to impress.

Thankfully, relegation to the Championship will allow us to now not worry about “we want to look big, so don’t sell anyone” & we can begin to raise funds that help reshape the squad. Bournemouth have been good at this for years, Palace similar, & still profit in terms of their achievements. Once we get back to the PL, hopefully soon, we need to accept that selling players is part of what a good club looks like & then the next key bit is finding the next one.

The problem with that Lukerz is that you need someone who knows what they're doing at the helm; we've got Sullivan, which is why we're in this mess in the first place. We're miles behind in terms of set up, direction, data, scouting, and will remain so while we've got Sullivan using his agent "mates" and an old, knock-off copy of Football Manager to make decisions on transfers.
  • I think he's on 98 Prem goals so wants to stay there to complete his ton.
  • And who is going to take Alvarez, Fullkrug, Cornet. JWP? Massive drain on wages, serious attitude problems and Nuno doesn't fancy them. Will they all be given free transfers?

    Maybe Nuno's been the problem?

Wilson's message contains a dig at Nuno, so he'll definitely be off.
  • Wilson agreed a 1 year extension in March but I guess it was conditional on us staying up

German website Fussballdaten say that Mavropanos could be going back to VfB Stuttgart or joining Borussia Dortmund and that we're asking for €20-25m (£17-22m)
  • I’ve been seeing things about Alvarez having an attitude recently. Where did that come from? I thought it was just that the managers didn’t fancy him and he was a bit of a liability with the red cards.

I forgot Cornet was still with us. Maybe he can finally kick start his West Ham career in the Championship! Is he the modern Savio?
  • I can't understand a lot of peoples dislike for Alvarez. He is the Mexican captain and would have been ideal as a leader on the pitch during our failed relegation struggle. GP jettison quite a few players with strong opinions who would have probably queried things if they thought something was wrong? NES was reported to be keen to bring him back from Turkey sooner but was unable to and he got an injury so.......
  • I felt that as well. Maybe Potter doesn't like potential challenging so he maybe got out the strong personalities. Moyes was very good at handling players I felt and not threatened by a strong character. Fergie, who is held up as an all time great, was perhaps the best manager of personalities ever, someone who could keep Roy Keane in line for so long is clearly 'the boss'.

I’ve been seeing things about Alvarez having an attitude recently. Where did that come from? I thought it was just that the managers didn’t fancy him and he was a bit of a liability with the red cards.

Mexican newspaper El Universal reckons CF Monterrey have started negotiations although it could be a transfer or a loan. He's still being linked with a move back to Ajax

He's back from ankle surgery, only made one brief appearance for Fenerbahce before the end of the season but came on at half time in a friendly against Ghana last Saturday and by all reports he looked good

I forgot Cornet was still with us. Maybe he can finally kick start his West Ham career in the Championship! Is he the modern Savio?

He's injured again, last time he played was as an 81st min sub back at the end of April. 8 appearances, 1 start, left on the bench 11 times, unavailable for 20

More like the modern Kieron Dyer!
  • I think the main reason to move him on is that he is just pretty awful.
  • Italian Journo Marco Mampreso says that Taty has told the club he doesn't want to play in "English Serie B" with Fulham and Flamengo interested.

Corriere della Sera says Atalanta are looking at Taty as a replacement for Ederson (off to Man Utd) and Gianluca Scamacca (off to Roma). Atalanta have appointed Maurizio Sarri as their new manager and he was Taty's manager at Lazio

Mampreso also says that we looking at Championship top scorer Swansea City's Slovenian CF Zan Vipotnik (23 goals) as a replacement but he's been linked with Toulouse, Benfica and Brighton

Reminds me of when Sullivan said we'd be signing one, two or three of the top three scorers in the Championship - and we signed none of them

  • Paco Jemez on Twitter this morning, not sure if it means he's off or what

I agree, I thought that he did a good job for us (apart from too many cards) and is the captain of Mexico, he could do job for us if he is willing.

I took it to refer to Cornet - and I am 100% in agreement
