Smith given out with an extremely dubious review for a caught behind down the legside, dreadful decision imo. There was a slight spike on snicko, but it was clearly after the ball had passed the bat, especially on one angle.
It’s pretty much Groundhog Day whenever England play in Australia. Ridiculously low totals, over & over, particularly in the curtain-raiser test. To get into the position they were after they bowled Australia out to Australia now winning tonight is almost unbelievable.
Probably good news as he doesn't swing the ball, with it being a pink ball game that will be essential. He was never going to survive a whole series anyway.

True that he was unlikely to play all 5, but it's a concern for the later Tests too. Also true that, although the pink ball does tend to swing a lot under the lights, the rest of the time it seems to do very little, so his pace would still have been an asset during the "day" parts of the match when batsmen tend to have the upper hand.
According to Jason Gillespie the pink ball doesn’t do anything different to the red ball but is more difficult to pick up. Majority of wickets are taken with faster deliveries.
If you read Broad’s article he says the difference is the colour of the seam. It’s white on a red ball but dark on the pink. It’s the seam position which is hard for batters to identify at speed.

As ever I’m not too down about it, it will still be an exciting series I reckon and it could go either way.
