I think he had wanted to go for a while Thorn, I think he saw us as a stepping stone as many do and see's Spurs as a step up. He never seemed happy last season. Most clubs are seen as a stepping stone to upwardly mobile players aside from the Champions League giants, he will look to move again if City or Madrid came in but will have to prove himself at Spurs to get their attention as he did in his first season with us. Paquetta would have probably left also were it not for his legal troubles.
It's the nature of career football, just give praise to Danny/Dani Dyer as Bowen took the career step from Hull to ourselves and like Kudus has had offers to take the next step but seems to have now become West Ham at heart, not many do nowadays for any club.
Leaving aside that all too objective and reasonable view I really hope he flops, I usually hope our players do well when moving on and have no issue with Rice and wish him success, but any player at Spurs I hope is a great failure.
Tbf the way we progress is making smart moves and making profits on those we have..... moving a £38mil Kudus for £55mil after 2 years is the right direction
Hopefully this allows us to make a move for McAtee who've we've been linked heavily for £20m/£25m, hes a risk but that's what we gotta do, poach the youth from teams better than us
We have made money on very, very few transfers. I’ll double check, but I’m pretty sure 3 of our 5 or 6 most profitable transfers are players from our academy, so it’s rare for us to make money on someone we buy. The reporting is that Kudus had made it clear he only wanted to go to Spurs, which puts us in a pretty rough negotiating position. So, selling a player for a profit who hasn’t really fit in, was disappointing for at least a year, and wants to leave, is not terrible business.
alderz, Kudus possibly doesn’t fit in with the way GP wants to play so it will be interesting to see who he now spends the money he will hopefully be given 🤞.
He scored in 5 league games last season. We’ve got £55m for him.
He will only ever return to form in his RW role but we have a lad there called Jarrod (who is vastly superior - because he is consistent, which is what all the best players are, not the ones who can do brilliant things ‘on their day’).
I don't think it is a great deal at all. It is the minimum we would have expected. He clearly wants away, so we have agreed to the offer which is fair enough. But it is not a great deal.
The thing about it is that Kudus would make us pretty happy if he were coming to us from another club as he is what we want in a fast, forward facing player. I am hoping Summerville will provide a better replacement on his more natural left wing.
I am not sure why he only wanted Spurs? He will have seen them last season and hardly think they are a force at present despite slipping into the CL.
His original comments were he only wanted Liverpool but unfortunately for him they didn’t feel the same. Chelsea bought another 200 players so Spurs became his CL option.
You know when you apply for a job and you say that this is the place you've always wanted to be and it's the only place for you, and then you go for another job and you say the same? That's basically what Kudus is doing.
alderz, It’s called footballer speak & it’s not unique to Kudus! I wish some people would stop blaming him, it was made obvious he wasn’t wanted and when offered the chance to play in a higher profile competition he took it. It’s like moving jobs to go to a better company.

Two months later Man Utd paid Torino £115k for Denis Law
Frank gone to Spurs and Wissa rumoured to be following him despite Kudus joining, Mbuemo getting closer to Man Utd
Will the last man to leave Brentford please switch off the lights!
