Arsenal H Sunday 10th May 4:30pm

Arsenal appear to have got over their slump with three matches - us, Burnley and Palace - between them and the title.

Arteta started the same XI against Atletico and Fulham with Lewis-Skelly preferred alongside Rice in midfield instead of Zubimendi

The only change last night was Odegaard and Havertz back on the bench after injury

Timber is the only notable injury with Ben White starting seven in a row

Last time we beat them at home was in the Carabao two seasons ago, last time we beat them at home in the league was January 2019 when 19yo Declan Rice scored his first Premier League goal

Ironic...

  • Only a desperate deluded fool would fancy us to get something from this game.
    2-1 to the irons.
  • Referee is Christopher Kavanagh, this will be his 25th game with us although he's only reffed us twice since 2023, the last being 0-1 at home to Fulham in December.
  • At this stage I hope we just go all out attack, too late to respect the point. I’ve accepted relegation (hope I’m wrong) so hope we at least go down with a fight.
  • I don’t think it is too late to respect the point, personally. 4 points instead of 3, or 7 points instead of 6 could make all the difference.

I also think we’re far more likely to get turned over by going at Arsenal.
  • So do we sit back and then only go all out after first going behind?
  • You know there are options between sitting in and going all out attack, right? We create chances and score in most games, and our defence has tightened up significantly this year. I don't know why we'd go all guns blazing, when Arsenal will just play through that really simply.
  • Diouf facing Saka fills me with dread. Scarles could also get roasted. AWB could manage, but I'm not sure he's mentally there at the moment.
Memo to Arteta: I think Rice needs a rest. The poor lad ran himself ragged beating Ateleti on his own.
  • Rice spoke very nicely of West Ham in his interview after the Champions league Semi Final.

' It's a club that gave me everything, without West ham there is no me'

Also, his comment about Mark Noble,
"he's been one of the best people for me. I can speak to him all the time about advice and how to get through things".

I saw the interview. He stopped short of saying I want West Ham to stay up so I’ve told the guys not to put a shift in. 😬

Brentford to beat City, then Rice to score a hat trick of own goals
  • Time has almost run out and we are in the last chance chance saloon.

I wonder if Nuno will revert to the 3-4-2-1 formation he used against Manchester City. We desperately need three points but a gung-ho approach won't get us anything. At the same time, a draw won't help us much. Need a season defining top performance from everyone, including the manager.
  • I wonder if Nuno will be tempted to play Areola...
Mads had a bit of an average performance V Brentford...
I don't think he will change....

Can't see that happening at all tbh, Mads has been part of a defence that has generally been a lot better of late.
  • Don’t think it will happen either but he’s had some quite sloppy/scary moments in the last few games. Seems to chickening out of coming for the ball at crucial points. Though I don’t think that Brentford goal was on him much at all - decent finish after AWB and Fernandes didn’t close down quick enough.
  • 3 games to go interested to know who thinks we are down and who thinks there's still hope ,Thought after Spurs won at Villa that was it for us ,But now I'm feeling a little bit of hope before this game .However loose or even Draw on Sunday .And afraid to say that will be it
  • No hope
  • Tottenham to do no better than win, lose & draw their last three whilst we win 2 out of 3 and we are safe, then I remember they are playing at Chelsea so my hopes are unlikely to become reality 😞.
  • Wow MrsG there was me thinkiing you were a Positive person .Just shows you never really know someone =)
  • I still fancy us to make a decent show of it… might be down to the last game but we are not out of it yet
  • I am 99% we are down
  • Pretty much down, but my heart still holds a little hope.

We had the advantage but couldn't press it home, now they have the advantage I can't see them allowing us back in.
  • We're up till we're down.
  • I think we’ve still got a chance, even a draw against Arsenal and win the other two games might just be enough. It’s down to us, we can’t rely on other teams to beat Spurs.
  • Can we have all day opening in The Positive Arms till Sunday night please?
  • Why would you close it Sunday night? Could be a lock in.

I'm not ruling out staying up. But I'm exhausted by hoping. So, no more hope. Have made my peace with still following WHU next season in the #champohype
  • Nope, not giving up yet.
  • I’m terrible at betting, I never go over £1 as lose every time so I’ve bet that’ll we’ll get relegated, I’ve done all I can.
  • It will be interesting to see just how forward facing Nuno has us in this match. I feel when we were behind and firmly in the relegation zone he got us very much attacking for three points, you may recall the period as many put it down to the new coach joining him. Once we got back back in touch I feel he resorted to type and set us up to not concede and hoped Spurs would be not pick up points, this resulted in lacklustre efforts against Everton ( I know we got lucky ), Palace and Brentford which Spurs took advantage of. He may now set us up to win rather than not lose, sadly it's against Arsenal however!!!
