West Ham Vs Wolves - Friday 10th - 8pm

Now we have the International friendlies and FA Cup out of the way we return to the pressing matter of seven cup finals to try and avoid relegation. This game must be one of our best chances of a crucial three points as Wolves were the first team relegated and have not left the bottom of the table for a long time. However they have bested us twice already this season and the last time comprehensively so.

We will need our first eleven fit and ready by Friday, so I am hoping first of all that Summerville is back, and then Hermanson, AWB, Tobido and Mavro. This makes us a lot better than the side put out for the Leeds match and hopefully enough to see off Wolves. I may be imagining it but I do feel we do ok on night fixtures and our two next matches are under the lights, I am hoping for four points at least to keep pressure on Spurs, Forest and Leeds. Four points between four teams, seven games to go, time to step up for each and every player now.

  • Wolves have not been relegated yet
  • The worry for this game is that we will feel the immense pressure of a home crowd expecting 3 points & know how vital they are to our chances of staying up.

They will be playing with complete freedom.

Tbh that pretty much sums up how it looked like the reverse fixture played out.

I think and trust that the fans will get right behind the team and really be that extra man after yesterday’s comeback and fight we showed, gotta be positive , as well, think we’ll be seeing about 5-6 changes from yesterday’s starting X1.. COYI ⚒️🙏

Wolves haven’t lost the last three league games, beating Villa and Liverpool at home then coming back from 2-0 down to earn a point away at Brentford.

Otherwise not a lot has changed since we got thumped at the beginning of the year and like Leeds there aren’t any notable injuries

Hwang-He Chan is back on the bench after 3 weeks off with a calf injury, had 15 minutes against Liverpool in the FA Cup but hasn't played for a month

They used some of the Stand-Larsen money to sign CF Adam Armstrong for £7m plus £2m add ons from Southampton on deadline day and he finally got off the mark against Brentford.

They also signed AM Angel Gomes on loan from Marseille (ex-Man Utd, Lille and Boavista) bringing the Gomes quota to four

"Mind if we call you Gomes to keep it clear?"

  • I think if Traore can replicate the performance yesterday (& isn’t injured) it won’t be too much of an issue if he starts Friday (if Summerville isn’t back).
  • Its just a shame Traore can't play on the left...

Except he, and we as a team, were far better when he switched with Bowen to play on the left.

    Hermansen
    Wan-Bissaka - Mavropanos - Disasi - Diouf
    Bowen - Souček - Fernandes - Summerville
    Pablo
    Taty

Areola, Todibo, Walker-Peters, Scarles, Potts, Magassa, Kante, Traore, Wilson

Is the side we want out. Assuming Disasi is injured (edit - seems he’s ok).
  • Yep, that's our best team. Disasi obviously starts if he's fit, probably with Mavropanos, but I don't think there's loads in it between Dinos and Todibo.
  • Can Traore play behind a striker? Don’t want to “fit square pegs in round holes” but he could be an option after Sundays performance
    .
  • I'm not at all convinced by Pablo.
His first touch is more often than not awful. There was an occasion vs Leeds where he received the ball and knocked it so far away that he practically passed it to a Leeds player.
His pitch awareness is nothing to write home about either. He was a mile offside when he followed up Bowen's strike against the post, and the icing on the cake was his penalty miss.
  • I see Summerville is pictured in training today

From what I’ve seen, he works very hard but lacks a lot of technical quality. He may be raw & need time to develop, but I’ve not seen anything yet to say he’s ready to be a PL striker. But, playing him with Taty does give opponents things to deal with.
  • Referee Jarred Gillett

This will be the 9th time we've had him (W5 D1 L2) and 3rd time this season

He was in charge of both Spurs games, sent Timmy Soucek off when we lost 3-0 at home, handed out 8 yellows - 3 to us, 5 to Spurs, when he beat them 2-1 away
  • From Kuching's "Referees" thread:

The Reluctant to Give Us Anything: Smith Bramall, Oliver, Robinson Gillett, Attwell.
  • Would anybody be tempted to start Bowen up front with Taty & play Traore & Summerville wide?
  • Peronally, no. I like Pablo and Taty as a combo. Despite a lack of goals between them they offer a good threat and great work rate. I think they set us up well from the front. Adama was really good at the weekend, but I don't trust him to do it again.
  • I agree, I think for all that Tatty and Pablo lack quality they really do run and cause the defence issues that Summerville and Bowen can hopefully make use of. I see them as the workhorses and Bowen and Summerville as the quality. I also hope we can get on the front foot and have Fernandes getting up the pitch as I think he really brings something in attack.
  • I think Taty has a lot of quality. He has a footballing brain, very good touch and leads from the front well.

He just needs a few more goals.
  • I’m not completely fussed if the strikers score, so long as someone else does. If he creates the space and opportunities for the wingers I’m happy
  • The way Taty finished his “goal” on Sunday was class and it was only the current interpretation of the offside rule which cost him.
Also Pablo was only guilty of what 99% of players are guilty of and that’s not getting out of the area and back onside quickly enough because they don’t expect the ball to come straight back in. Even then I expect he thought Bowen was going to score rather than hit the post.
  • Yesterday Nuno said Summerville, Todibo and Wilson "are improving, and we still have tomorrow to assess" while Mavropanos is "clear of the concussion protocol"

Edwards press conference should be 1pm today
  • Taty is a very clever player, sometimes too clever

Short of a couple of extra goals he’s been a very good signing for us
  • People have said I'm to clever for my own good .thought it was a compliment until a few years ago =)
  • I wonder if Nuno would be tempted to field Traore instead of Pablo.
  • Today has a similar feeling to the Friday night we had a must win game against Watford at an empty stadium.
Hope we have the same performance
  • From Edwards' presser Matt Doherty is the only player out but he's only played three times this year and hasn't started since the beginning of February
  • Match day, let’s hope that the fact that Wolves haven’t played in such a long time goes in our favour. ⚒️
  • Hermansen, Walker-Peters, Mavropanos, Disasi, Diouf, Fernandes, Souček, Bowen ©, Summerville, Pablo, Taty
Subs: Areola (GK), Wan-Bissaka, Scarles, Todibo, Potts, Magassa, Kanté, Adama, Wilson
