  • Except we didn't "find" Summerville or Fernandes

Saints signed Fernandes when he was 20 for £15m

Leeds signed Summerville when he was 18 for £1.3m!!!

Yeah but I didn’t say we had to “find” them
  • What a complete waste of money of a signing he has been, and somewhat predictably so rather than someone like Cornet who was ruined by a freak injury.

Fullkrug went a full season without injury before we signed him

46 appearances, 42 starts and was 3rd for minutes played at Borussia Dortmund (3.335 mins). He also played in all 5 of Germany's matches at the 2024 Euros

The season before that he missed 5 games with injuries but still made 30 appearances with 30 starts for Werder Bremen and was only subbed off twice

    Hardly Darren Anderton

ASLEF, how many goals in that full season without injury?
  • Füllkrug finished off fifth in the Bundesliga with his team. In his first and only season at the club, he played 43 matches, in which he was involved in 26 goals throughout all competitions

    16

1 for Werder Bremen before he moved, 15 for Borussia (12 Bundesliga, 3 Champions League). He also scored twice for Germany in the Euros

The season before he was joint top scorer in the Bundesliga (16), player of the month twice, selected for the Kicker Team of the Season and got his first cap for Germany 3 months before his 30th birthday

ASLEF, if he could keep injury free, do you think he could make a better impact in the Championship?
  • I suspect Fullkrug has had enough of West Ham and will be gone in the summer. He's been linked with Fiorentina and Wolfsburg (if they don't get relegated)
  • ASLEF, if he could keep injury free, do you think he could make a better impact in the Championship?

Fullkrug can't run. I'm not sure it matters what division we're in, he absolutely doesn't suit English football.
  • I can't find a link for the original Daily Mail article but...

Eddie Howe has been "a long-time admirer” of Bowen since 2022 (talkSport)

He almost joined Newcastle before we signed him and was waiting at Wetherby services station outside Leeds when the news came that Mike Ashley wouldn't sanction the deal.

He gets linked with Liverpool cos he's been suggested as a Salah replacement since 2022 and he's linked with Everton for no other reason than Moyes signed him at West Ham
  • and he's linked with Everton for no other reason than Moyes signed him at West Ham

Other than he's a top player.
  • That'll be £105m then.
  • But if we sell him, who’s going to score that crucial winning goal away at Lincoln in November?

Tbf, he's not been scoring many goals against anyone.
  • Richarlison.

Had to think about that one for a moment =)

Soucek gets linked with Everton almost every window and Coufal was linked with Everton before he joined Hoffenheim

Ward-Prowse was linked with Everton and was going back to Saints before he joined Burnley

In a world where online advertising funds "journalism" they need to generate as many "clicks" as possible and so need as many new headlines as possible.

When they've got nothing new to write they link a player with a manager that signed them before or to an old club. Or in the case of Bowen Google to see who was linked with him 3-4 years ago

    I'll click to that....
  • Genuinely going to be funny watching the likes of Alvarez / Fullkrug coming back and trying to get moves away.
  • Southampton were in the
Championship and they stood true at £38mil, hes only.gotten better so while ai think £84mil is ridiculous I can imagine us getting £45mil-£55mil depending on how much of a bidding war we can get (and also assuming he doesn’t have a relegation release clause)

Bowen still fetches £30mil or more depsite his age, can see Newcastle or Villa interested

Others will be about trimming wage bills if we can. Areola, Kilman, Taty, Pablo, Soucek, AWB are all high earners

Honestly dont care if any of them stay other than Bowen & Fernandes
  • We easily get £55m+ for Fernandes, above £60m imo. The scary thing will be trying to get something for players that we desperately need rid of, and that everyone knows we desperately need rid of. Areola, JWP, Alvarez, Todibo, even AWB and Taty. No-one is gonna touch Kilman with a bargepole given the wages he's on and the way he's played this season.

No way we balance the books and get promoted next season imo.
  • Trouble with modern day football is it’s the fans who suffer a relegation. Most players I’m sure, unless they’re bang average, give the impression they’re gutted but that lasts a couple of days at the most.
I bet at least half of our team have already been thinking about where in the PL or Europe they’d like to play next season. I’m also willing to bet there’d be only a couple at best who’d say “I’m prepared to stay next season to try to get us back up”.
I know some contracts, don’t know if ours do, stipulate a 50% or whatever reduction in salary on relegation but sadly it’s not lawful to stipulate that there’s an obligation to stay for at least one year.
  • The obligation to stay is dictated by the contract length to run. It will be a negotiation to leave on their part or sell on ours, but both parties are contracted to terms agreed.
  • C&bsky an obligation to do something is binding in law but in football it appears to be ignored as we have players going on strike etc. I can’t ever recall a club saying to players you’re all on contracts and therefore obliged to play next season unless we decide otherwise. These days players are already getting their agents talking to other clubs and we’ve already seen Fernandes saying he wants to join Man U.
Some of us remember the George Eastham episode when Stoke told him he had to respect his contract, went on strike and they were forced to sell him to Arsenal.
  • It does depend on the player. Rice let it be known he would happily see out his contract if preferred where as at the other end of the scale you have Autonovic or Payet who effectively just say I'm off. My point was that you said it was not lawful to stipulate they have to stay for one year, the contract is the lawful position and if they have three years left then that's the legal position. We clearly can't allow everyone to leave who can as we would have nothing to build around, but we will need sell some to balance finances and some will refuse to stay.
