This indicates he has offered an apology.

A better player will not be in our budget, remember he is a full international for Brazil!

Didn’t seem like a very sincere apology. Mostly more moaning with a token gesture at the end.

Bowen really was poor in controlling him. He looked so helpless during the whole exchange.
Interesting to compare BBC article with Guardian.

In reading that, it reminded me that the FA was strongly criticised by the regulatory authority that ruled on the case.

So up to a point, I can sympathise with his frustration and feelings of victimisation, because the FA were judged, basically, unfair and inept in the whole damn saga.
Sure, but what does it have to do with his behaviour on the pitch? The statement is an excuse rather than an apology for behaviour that jeopardised the side when we were still only 1-0 down.

I can understand the sentiment of what he’s saying and if that is really still affecting him and he hasn’t been able to clear his head and enjoy football then that needs to be addressed by the club with some support and maybe a short break. But I feel like the statement is just a bit childish.

Say we sell Paqueta in January, how much would/should we accept?
IF Bowen isn’t the captain who is?

Re Bowen as to 'who', there lies the problem, we don't have any outstanding candidates, if Soucek was 3 years younger and part of the regular team, him, but sadly there are no obvious players to step up, but IMO Paqeuta let the team down, but Bowen certainly IMO should have stepped up and tried harder to sort him out, he was 'weak' IMO...
  • Of the players on the pitch, the only one who gives off captain vibes is Freddie Potts, and I don't think that would be sensible.
  • From what I remember, when we were discussing who would replace Rice as captain, very few thought of Bowen unless as a default by being our best player. There were even suggestions that it could be JWP who was just coming in. It feels like we’re in the same position as then - he’s a great player but he doesn’t seem to be that much of a leader and the others don’t see to be either.

My wildcard is throw the responsibility at Paqueta and see if it focuses him.

I could possibly see Fernandes growing into it but probably not right now.

Potts needs to establish himself in the team before anything else.
  • @Jorderz_Moyes_will_be_Moyes, If I knew the answers I wouldn’t be asking the questions would I?
  • So what makes you think we know the answers? Oh look, now you've made me ask a question. 😂
  • @Jorderz_Moyes_will_be_Moyes, If I knew the answers I wouldn’t be asking the questions would I?

But he didn't ask you for answers, he asked what you think. Which you must know...?
  • I do not think they will be stripping Bowen of the captaincy anytime soon, that would certainly hasten his departure, now if we are offered silly money and he actually leaves, that is another point and in that instance, I would actually agree that, despite his inexperience, Potts gives off the most obvious captain vibes….i think that Rice was appointed very early on after breaking through and Potts could be the same
  • Bowen wasn’t a great choice as captain but neither was Zouma. After Rice left I’d have given the armband to Soucek

Potts looks like a future candidate
  • Soucek's major problem with being captain would be his poor English.
  • If he has 18mths on his contract at January maybe 20m if 6mths then probably 5m. If he throws his hands up in the air and says it's his dream to go back to Brazil then probably £500 paid in instalments.

Soucek should be Captain if playing as he has been at club and country level. I am not against Bowen being Captain as we don't have a natural leader at the club in the style of Nolan, Noble or even Rice.
  • Soucek's major problem with being captain would be his poor English.

Yup but even Paqueta would understand a punch in the gob. =)
  • No @alderz I don’t & that is why I asked the questions 👍.

Then Soucek would be sent off, wouldn't he. ;)

You’ve seen right through my cunning plan Bubbles.
  • No @alderz I don’t & that is why I asked the questions 👍.

You asked how much others would accept for Paqueta. How much would you?

And who do you think should be captain if not Bowen?
  • I do also believe that Paquetá had enough opportunity to calm down, he’s a grown man, not a 21 year old. He was marched away by players & it seemed to have settled, but then he came storming back. Yes, maybe Bowen could have done more but I don’t think it is others responsibility to manage Paquetá. He probably feels hard done by & a bit of a victim & he probably needs some support.
  • Positives: Areola has his confidence back, Todibo is assured at lcb, Potts and Magassa add bite to mf, Fernandes can replace Paqueta, Wilson is a proper cf.
Negatives : all been listed, endlessly.
The game: was pretty cagey even after they scored and Paq had his meltdown. Bowen talked to the ref, and even Allison couldn't calm Paq down, so I don't see what else he could do.
    Next game should be interesting....

Paqueta's contract runs until 2027 with the option to extend for another year and a £85m release clause. He's currently on approx £150k pw

He's 28, I'm not sure 7 years makes much difference to anyone's level of maturity

We're not all like you ASLEF. 😂
  • Paqueta given a warning and will only serve a one game ban.
